Dark Radiant Install

Installed the C++2008 thingy and followed the instructions below:

Windows

  1. Download the DarkRadiant installer (it's the .exe file) from Sourceforge: http://sourceforge.net/projects/darkradiant
  2. Run the installer and follow the instructions until it finishes.
  3. Start up DarkRadiant via the Start menu.
  4. If an "Engine Path Not Found" dialog appears, choose the path to your Doom 3 installation. For example, c:\Games\Doom3. Then click Button_ok.png.
  5. DarkRadiant should now start up. Try loading a Dark Mod map to see if it's working.
  6. You're done!

my doom is in D:\Doom3 and I clicked OK, but I get the "close program, find a solution" window and that's it... Please help :)

What did you put in for fs_game? You should put in Thiefs_den or Saint_lucia depending on what demo assets you're using

Also, if it keeps crashing when you open DR, and you can't do anything but close out, go to c:\Users\your username\AppData\Roaming\DarkRadiant and delete user.xml

I installed The Den, but I'm going to try deleting that user.xml file...now. Thanks for the help...

Shoot there is no file by that name, only a darkradiant.log & darkradiant.pid :(

What exactly are you trying to install?

For the "Thief's Den" release, use these instructions: http://wiki.thedarkmod.com/index.php/...en#Installation

For the "Saint Lucia" release, use these instructions: http://wiki.thedarkmod.com/index.php/...ia#Installation

For DarkRadiant (the level editor, equivalent to DromEd), use these instructions: http://wiki.thedarkmod.com/index.php/...tallation_Guide

Heh, okay. Let us know if you have any more problems. Apart from the inn problem. ;)

(I think the word you're looking for is spelled "knackered", by the way.)

I thought "nakkeret" is Danish for "empty pockets and empty brain"

If you don't have Thiefs Den or Saint Lucia installed, then you don't put anything in the fs_game section, because you don't have darkmod installed...so there is no mod directory for dark radiant to access. Once you install Thiefs Den or Saint Lucia, you will type the directory name that the mission is installed. Either Thiefs Den or Saint Lucia....which ever one you install. You have to type it exactly as it is spelled in the mission folder.

You would only be typing darkmod if you actually had the full darkmod repository.

Yup, that should be right. As long as your saintlucia folder is all lower case too, that should do it.

Can you post a screen shot of your folder structure so we can make sure everything is in the right place?

Hmm - saintlucia looks like it's in the right place. The only odd thing I can see there is that you've put DarkRadiant inside the Doom 3 folder. I don't know why that would be an issue, but it is unusual. Maybe try uninstalling DarkRadiant and then reinstall it somewhere outside the Doom 3 folder?

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
