Need any more voice actors?

Hey, long time player of the Thief series here, and I've been kind of following the progress of TDM in the shadows... I was wondering if you guys need any more voice work done? I've got access to a studio, a decent voice, and I'm eager to help.

I can also get some samples recorded this weekend if you guys want some. Just trying to help :)

I'm not a team member and don't have the authorization for anything but

New quality vocals are definately needed.

So just don't disappear anywhere: I'm pretty sure a team member will have time to check and comment this soon. At present they are pushing a new version out so they might be a bit busy.

Just throw a few voice samples here in the mean time so the team members can easily decide what can be done with the voice available.

Hi Sly. I'm the guy who does all the writing for our vocals. We're always on the lookout for good quality vocal sets. I'd be happy to send you some test lines, and you can record a couple samples of voices that you're comfortable with. I like to tailor the scripts according to the way the actor's voice sounds. I assume you're familiar with our existing sets?

Hi there. That would be great, if you send me some test lines anywhere between today and the weekend, I could have them ready by Saturday. Yes, I've heard the existing ones, I think I'd match quite well. I might fit an agressive/low voiced guard, although I could also try some suitable thief voices. Send me a couple of test lines, I'd be glad to contribute.

Hi Sly, where are you from? In the next few weeks, once the FM I'm working on is finished, I need a voice actor for the yet-to-be named character. Can you do a line like "Look what we found here..." or something?

My Eigenvalue is bigger than your Eigenvalue.

7upMan working on custom voice record

Johannes working on mission itself

there is very big difference

example :

Bikerdude vocals set in TDM,but he not one of TDM developers

ok...but he is also working on the story, so he is working on the mission aswell. It is my map bur our mission or so wacko.gif

By the way, our FM's preliminary title is "The Grouch". I think it's very well chosen.

Springs, I have created a thread similar to the one over at ttlg editing guild section, see below - feel free to commandeer the thread/post etc.

I am Portuguese, although I have pretty much no foreign accent. I live in the UK, but my normal voice has a touch of American. I can do a British accent perfectly fine too, if you so require.

Sure I can, when I'm recording this weekend, I'll do a couple of extra lines and post them here.

Done. I've uploaded the zip to mediafire.

Thief lines

Hey Sly, glad you could make it over here. He's a Black Cat regular, I told him ask you guys. These are a great group of guys, stick around! Welcome aboard.

Thanks BA. I've just recorded a few lines for Springheel, hopefully he'll like them.

Hi Sly,

Thanks for the samples.

One thing that stands out immediately is the recording quality. There is a massive amount of reverb in the clips that would make them unusable for the game. I don't know what to suggest about that but there are a lot of people here with good recording knowledge.

I'll ask around next time I'm around there, I reckon there's someone there who can point out what I did wrong. I'll let you know if I figure it out. I've very little sound knowledge, and I recorded it by myself, probably messed up somewhere along the way.

It's not so much reverb than a noticeable flutter echo. It sounds like you recorded this in a small square room.

The EQ is very bassy. What mic did you use?

Edit: Upon further inspection, your voice and pronunciation is nice. Nitpick: Vocal tone isn't as memorable as Mr. Russel's, but understandable.

That's probably because I did record it in a small square room :P It's in a radio station, I've been there recording some unrelated stuff and I get some extra time in it. As I've said, I'm not too big on sound terminology, I just used the equipment that was set up on the booth so I don't know what mic it was. Something else I'll have to find out next time I'm there. The mic also had a pop filter, if that matters.

The only thing I noticed was the background noise from the computer that the mic picked up. Other than that, I just set it to mono, 44100 and saved it to .wav. Thanks for the compliment.

Yep. Gotta have a pop filter. :) You're really lucky to have access to that equipment.

Radio stations are infamous for certain microphone practices. Most notable: Getting your voice really close to a condenser mic or ribbon mic creates that typical "bassy" radio sound. Or they EQ the hell out it. Great for radio, but distracting in a digital format.

Square rooms make me sad. Their acoustics are really hard to tame. It usually ends with lots of dampeners and diffusers, making the room a nice rectangle anyways!:P

Just remember: if it sounds good, it is good. :) If we're being really, really, picky, it's just because it's nice to match GoldChocobo's high standards.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
