  1. Brilliant stuff. I'm all for sticking as many instruments in the game as possible. If the guards have whistles to alert others to your presence, Revenants could have some kind of Army of Darkness style Dans Macabre flute made of bone, while the pagan forest imps would play harps and mandolins... This piano should go in the first mansion level of the campaign in my opinion.

  2. Hmm... I suppose that'd be a "no thanks" about the writing part. A shame, I was looking forward to it.

     

    Sorry! :( I feel bad for being so productive now. Like when I realised I had too many kids to feed, and had to start culling them.

     

    Some of us are even working on it.

     

    So that's whats holding them up! ;)

    I take it the IT guys come up to wipe the monitors after you've 'come across' this indecent stuff?

    Its the office way to make sure we wank on our own time and not on theirs. Most workplaces ban nudity, and look through what you've been looking at to make sure you aren't wasting too much time.

  4. Hokay, but I'm almost finished with the writing. Every facet of the plot is in place. Any more than 10 conversations per level would seem stop-start, and more than 5,000 words of readables per level would drown the player under an annoying sea of words. What we probably need now is less writing; I'm cutting out 1/3 of all the crap I've written.

     

    Speaking of journalism... I was voted to be the editor of a mag today, out of three candidates. Mwahahaha I am King. I also know no modesty. :lol:

  5. The only thing that I noticed are the boots. IMO you are wrong with making the boots bigger, but this is only if you look specifically on them. If you just play normally it is not that noticable.

    Such quirks seem 'wrong' now but will surely become endearing after the game becomes a long standing object of fandom. I used to think the 'argue' animation in Thief I and II was rubbish, but now I love it and think we should emulate it as close as possible for the Dark Mod... :)

  6. Calm down, Darkness Falls. We were just discussing the concept art and throwing ideas around, not criticising your work. When I said 'needs to be toned down' I was referring to the end product rather than the picture you had drawn. Isn't inspiring that kind of discussion the purpose of concept art? :)

    Surely that's an argument against unlimited saves then? We all manage real life which is a lot more complex, without saves, so why not a relatively easy game?

     

    This kind of logic makes me want to hit lifes 'Esc' key. :D

  8. I'm all for making the campaign as challenging as is reasonable. But saving is a totally unrelated matter; it is the imbilical cord between the game world and real life. It only takes a fuckup in one of these two universes to require a quicksave. And let's face it, real life is infinately more challenging than the game world, with no option to restart if you miss appointments, wet your pants, or ignore your girlfriend. :ph34r:

  9. I've watched the trailer now. :)

     

    In terms of architecture it isn't as impressive as the Hammerite Imperium, and I doubt I'll use any of those newfangled weapons. But as a solid sneaking experience it looks great, and should take its place alongside T1 and T2 rather than just being an expansion. The cut scenes looked great too.

    I didn't know that actually! I'll look out for your gravely boom. Looks like I'm the only one in the entire Thief Community who hasn't contributed anything to T2X. Hmmm... maybe it's too late now. :lol:

  11. I think Thief 2x will push the Dark Engine to the limit and I can't wait to try it out.

    I never really understood this need to push the Dark Engine to its limits.The concept holds about as much excitement as the speeding up an old lady's stairmaster. I just hope the game is good. :)

    Me too. I've played around with level editors since Doom ][, but never really finished anything (apart from a few AoE and Impossible Creatures maps). It really helps to have a team working on something to do the things you don't have any interest in doing. I just don't understand coding (though it is what my brother and few of my friends do for a living), I've played around with 3D model making, I can draw but I'm out of practice (mostly cartoons rather than realism anyway), but I enjoy building levels and hope to create a FM for the Dark Mod.

  13. Spending enough time to get each model perfect will result in virtually none of them ever being completed at all.

    This has nothing to do with individual tweaking to get each model perfect. Making sure the boot size is right on this model will give you a quick and easy reference for the other 70 that will soon follow. :)

  14. ..and considering there are 70 character models to do (and I'll be doing the most of those) I haven't got time for nitpicking over little details.

    Well since most of those 70 are left to do, it's probably worth sorting out the little details now.
