  1. If you actually don't know what people don't like about the game (as opposed to trolling), just do a simple search for "TDS" and "sucks" on TTLG.

Make sure you have a few hours.

I know what people dislike about the game. I was just stating a general statement about my feelings when I played the game. I enjoyed it quite a bit, just as much as Thief 1 and 2, if not more.

Depends on what you consider buggy or sloppy I guess...considering I fixed a bug or two in The Minimalist Project, it's safe to say that there are bugs.

One of the bugs I fixed had to do with Garrett becoming completely invisible when he was in 'wall hugging' mode. I confirmed it with one of the developers. It was caused by a simple miscalculation in the wall hug formula that caused the light gem calculation to drop into negative numbers when Garrett when into wall hugging mode. Guards could bump into you and still not find you. I compensated for the miscalculation by tweaking the stealth bonus until the gem no longer dropped into negative numbers. That was a new gameplay element that was well promoted, it's obvious that the game wasn't tested very well if such an obvious bug got through.

Perhaps sloppy isn't the best word, unfinished is better suited. The game needed at least another month or two of bug fixing and game play balancing.

I never encountered this... was this just in certain areas / places?

I was not refering to TDS in particular, even though I have my reservations about it, but for such excuses in general. There are all kind of excuses for all computer games, and why the poor industry is not able to put out a game which works with the first release. Some companies can do it, so why not the others? When I look at Gothic (as an example) which is a very good game, still sucked quite a lot when it was released, and it took some patches until it realy worked. Not only the last one, but the previous installments as well.

I no other industry accept customers as much crap as in the software.

Gothic was a horrible game, the storyline, the gameplay, everything, never again compare such as a load of crap to a game like TDS.

  2. I don't see why this should be an excuse. of course some individual programmers might have not the abillity to change the decisions made, and I can understand that they don't feel good about being critzied about it. But on the other hand, TDS cost's as much as any other game. It didn't get cheaper because the devs screwed up, and if I pay the regular prize, then I can expect to get a properly done game. Just because it is much work, is no excuse, because the devs get paid to do their job. If I work sloppy in my office, I also can not excuse it by saying that it is much work. Either I have to make it clear why this was not done well, if it is out of my scope, or I have to accept that I get critizism for it.

Of course this is bad for the programmers, but on the other hand, for the consumer it doesn't really matter WHY it was screwed up, because in the end you don't know anway for sure. If you deliver a bad product, the market will not accept it, and deservedly so. No excuse can change that.

Well to me and in my opinion, the game was extremely well made. Good graphics, classic gameplay. I didn't encounter any bugs or glitches in the game either. So I don't see what you mean by "screwed up" or "sloppy".

  3. Hi guys. This mod is looking great. I just have a few questions. Sorry if anyone gets pissed off. Is the mod playable yet, if so where can I get it? If its not done. what percentage is done and what is remaining? I'm really excited about this mod becuase The Thief series is the one and only stealth game I have ever liked but I liked it oh so much. It was so perfect. And to all the TDS haters out there, that game was incredibly made I don't care what you guys say.

  4. i dont understand why the URL is the same for the whole site.... like the URL in the address bar never changes. and its particular frustrating when u click reload or refresh and it sends you back to the main page -_-

  5. The SDK comes with a licence that allows us to make mods with it. I believe the game's EULA states this as well. There are restrictions (e.g. the mod must be non-commercial), but we're not violating any of them and don't intend to. :)

More than that, id software likes mods. As well they should, because:

    * Successful mods and modding communities boost sales + exposure of their products

    * Releasing the free SDK and promoting mods with it exposes people to their technology, which they will licence to developers to a fee (licencing their engines is one of id's big income sources)

    * Mod teams occasionally produce standout mods, leading to the engine creators partnering with the mod teams to sell the mod commercially (don't think id has actually done this yet, but look at Valve's Half-Life and Counter-Strike for an example - CS was a mod, is now commercial as well).

    * They sometimes find new talent via modding communities - a very few of the best modders end up working for the company whose engine they were modding (this is rare of course, given the large amount of modders and the small size of game dev companies).

they do like mods and they want people to make i know. but u should at least email them or something and let them know. like blizzard a company that makes warcraft and starcraft series.... but companys like that that encourage mods have shut them down in the past becuase they violated copyright or didn't ask for permission or didn't give notification or whatever before they released it. and hey im not trying to be hostile or offensive or anything, im just trying to help this mod stay alive because i think it will be great.

  6. so have u guys already asked id software for permission to make this mod. i dont know if u guys know but a lot of mods for a lot of games (most of them actually pretty good) have been and were shut down becasue they either didn't ask for permission before they made it or the company didn't want it. in certain cases, they even pressed charges on the basis of copyright laws... just thought id give the devs a headsup

  7. I do not appreciate child-like incessant questions. The generally accepted moral code dictates that some things should be discovered on your own.

On a side note, I remembered playing Right up there on the Mountains, it was very good. Especially given that I was familiar with the Evil Dead series.

whoa... my bad......i didn't mean to offend your family's honor man

  8. Ask that question at TTLG... this isn't a Thief tech-support forum.

i did... no one has responded in a long time..... just this once someone help me i really want to play some FMs

  9. You can get either GarrettLoader or Darkloader (both newest versions) from Metal and Gold (in my sig) on the Essentials page.

Darkloader is probably a little better if you only plan to play Thief 1/G/2 FMs, but if you plan to play Thief 3 FMs you will need GarrettLoader (which can play Thief 1/G/2 as well)

ok.... but tell me how to use it please??

edit: never mind i got it to work.

  10. ok i downloaded Calendra's Legacy.... now how do i run FMs... i know i need a loader. can someone point me to a good loader to use and give me instructions on how to use it? i was looking at Dark Loader from

www.thief-thecircle.com . is that a good loader to use? and if it is, how do u use it?

  11. i agree completely with the comments made by sparhawk. yeah i read in the forums that the changes arent going to very noticable other than the shadows so... all my previous comments do apply. one thing that i really enjoyed about T2X, however, were the cutscenes. I feel that these cutscenes were the best part of the game and other mod crews could learn a thing or two from them. and btw Gildoran i think thats probably the case that i played very low quality FMs. so if some people could reccomend the classics/greatest FMs id appreciate it. i just reinstalled thief 2: TMA, so id be able to play some of them.

  12. Well you sure do come across as a troll. Loved Thief-Tdp Thief-Gold, Thief 2 The Metal Age AND Thief Deadly Shadows(Simplicity) Yet you despise Thief2x and do not like Thief FM's

I have seen games sold in stores that were utter crap compared to Thief2x yet Thief2x was developed by fans in their free time over 5 years. I give them great respect for what they accomplished.

I think they did a wonderful job.

Despise FM's do you ? Theres what over 1,000 of them all done by other Thief Fans simply for other fans enjoyment and let me tell you they are not easy to make they take a lot of work to do it well.

Thief Deadly Simplicities ? What utter crap that was. It is pretty much universally acknowledged that it just plain sucked.

I still think your a troll. I now remove the hook and swim away.

wow i just went to the T2X site and saw that they released a final version on 2/18/07. i feel like a total idiot lol. all the comments i made about T2X were about the version released in 2005. i will play the new version now. just for my information. whats different about the two versions?
