  1. I cycle outdoors a lot and enjoy that more than any other type of exercise. It's great for cardio and legs, but I consider it lacking for the whole body.

I used to have quite a bit of weightlifting equipment(barbells, dumbells, etc) and have had a few exercise machines over the decades (recumbent exercise bike, rower, stepper.) I still have an elliptical but only because my wife uses it regularly. Of the indoor machines I've owned, I'd say the elliptical has been my favorite(my wife's favorite, too), but I don't use it much.

For general fitness, I like bodyweight exercises and HIIT(high intensity interval training.) Here's a video of a routine that combines those:

No equipment needed for many routines of that type. There are quite a few more HIIT routines on that youtube channel. Exercising that way can be challenging to the newcomer to it, but it's a really time efficient way to become fitter. Some of the HIIT routines are very difficult, but they can always be cut down to better match with a person's current fitness level.

This is about the only piece of equipment I use anymore:

  2.

Well, if you're referring to Thief and not to OMSI 2 (the real name), the German gaming magazine Gamestar has published its newest issue yesterday and a review of Thief. They were not happy with the game. All in all they criticized that it's neither appealing to old-school Thief fans nor to the new generation of gamers who'd have fun with DX:HR or Dishonored. The game is said to be fun occasionally, but it reeks of wasted potential.

I'm not sure if I can put up a scanned copy of the article, but suffice to say that an overall score of 78 percent is not the best thing for an AAA title. The review closes with this:

"Thief leaves us just like it has begun: unsatisfied. Overall it is a decent, sometimes even truly fun game that could have been so much more than it ultimately was. Like a real Thief, for example. Or a Deus Ex in steampunk. As it is now, it's a bit of both. But never completely so."

Yeah, I was referring to nuThief. From what I've seen of it, I wouldn't score it anywhere nearly as high as 78%, but even so, I expect that 78% will be a bit lower than what most reviewers give it.

  3. I think the Witcher games benefit greatly from being based on a series of books. Eventhough the games differ from the books in some of the details, there's more depth to the characters and the world than what is typical in games. There's a sense that much more has happened to the characters than what is taking place in the games, that the characters bring their own personal histories to the world the games take place in. I think that's what makes them seem more authentic than a lot of games.

  4. For me I think the loss of Stephen Russell was the breaking point. After that I just stopped caring.

The loss of Stephen Russell was almost the breaking point for me. As long as SR is able to voice Garrett, he should be voicing Garrett. It's not helping that Orzari's Garrett voice reminds me of Steve Buscemi. Loss of SR combined with the loss of Hammerites and Pagans pushed me over the edge. I probably would have put up with the inferior controls and bought the game if SR had returned or if the lore hadn't been gutted.

  5. I think I have a high tolerance level for forum crap. I seem to be able to ignore it better than a lot of people. I'm rarely on the receiving end of it though and am not very confrontational to begin with. No denying things have gone drastically downhill at TTLG over the past several years though.

  6.

Britney seems quite normal to me.

Maybe, but she seems awfully unaware of what has gone down with nuThief and is saying things that could hardly be better designed to annoy the nuThief fans. I expect soon we'll be reading about her looking forward to seeing Hammerites again then being shocked they aren't in the game.

  7. zwanzig zwolf for one. His posts tend to be very short though and don't attract much attention. He's from RPG Codex or someone else is using the same name. Wouldn't be a bit surprised if Britney is trolling.

I don't know what to call what Viktoria is doing. Whatever it is got her banned from TTLG though.

  8. So those things are in the sanitarium. Is that some end stage of the plague? There was also one in what looked like a mine. Same location as the sanitarium or are these things widespread? I read something about encountering a supernatural creature under the Keeper library, but I can't remember if it was one of those.

  9. I don't have PM's turned on over there, so I probably missed a lot of what was going on. Now that I'm thinking about it though, I'm beginning to remember more of what was posted on the board. I have some recollection of the posts that must have started what you're talking about, but I didn't even know that turned into a campaign.

  10. I was always more of a reader of the TTLG forum than a poster until the Stephen Russell bombshell was dropped, but I really enjoyed the discussions there over the years. I still consider it to be the authentic Thief forum even if it's not the "official" one. Did you see the audio file I attached to my goodbye on the EM forum? Heheheh

  11. I've stopped posting over there, at least until the game has been released and people have gotten a chance to play it. I've been pretty critical of the new game, and I thought I'd give the people there who are genuinely excited about it a break from my negativity this final month before it comes out.

  12. That name makes some sense. And that's what I read top center to be.

References to the old games still bother me. Guess it depends on a person's attitude toward the game generally, but to me they seem more like sops than homage.

  13. I was one of those guys who pissed off everyone who wanted to play Asteroids because I could play it forever on one quarter. Haha. Later on someone figured out how to stop that from happening, but it was fun while it lasted. Front Line was my game a few years after that. Those were the only two I got really good at. I hated Dragon's Lair.
