  1. (Sure, I play them a little, but they do get tiresome!) With Thief. . .and with TDM. . .killing is not generally part of the plan. And its a nice change. Less violence, more stealth. . .more story. Yay!

Hmm, maybe next time I play a mission in TDM, I should have a mindset/immersion feel that these AI are real people in some other world - So I don't always end up killing them when I get spotted. :/

  2. If you get spot by a guard (and you don't want to quickload, because quickloads are for puss*** :P ), you can try these 3 things which works for me

    1. Hide in the shadows, and use objects to distract the guard else where.

    2. [breaks immersion slightly] Circle strafe trying to steal everything in the vicinity while the guard is chasing you. That includes climbing on stuffs.

    3. [Warning! This really breaks immersion!] THIS IS SPARTA! Stab the mo-fos! :D It is really easy to kill guards in Thief1,2,3(?) and TDM. Rarely do you need to block. Just quickly go for headshots or armshots (if they are wearing armor), step back when they are about to swing, then step forward again and repeat the process.

Fun free game (that is still in beta) that I somehow stumbled upon. It seems like a pretty fun multiplayer, that has lots of potential.

That reminds me of something, does anyone remember playing "Thievery" ? A "Competitive Thief Multiplayer" mod for Unreal Tournament? That was a fun game to play with other peeps! Ah what good times! :) This game, Of Guards and Thieves kind of revived some of my nostalgia I had with Thievery. Although, I think with Of Guards and Thieves, it is more streamlined and fast-paced. Which is fine. And you can't ague with a free game.

  4. Here it is

Thief 101 Trailer / Launch Trailer

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9A0bYLJlGbo

This thing plays like a parody of itself. I couldn't help but burst out laughing at 2:46 onwards

    Use your blackjack for...

    THUMP

    ... silent ...

    CRACK

    ... stealthy...

    SPLAT

    ... non-lethal takedowns ...

    SMASH

Here is the original trailer for Thief: The Dark Project

...So you were saying? Both trailers are trying to appeal to gaming audiences, which also includes lethal gamplay and crap. They are both similar! The only difference is that Thief 4 is much more modern and cinematic with all those flashy cutscenes.

Again, stop being so nit picky about the game, and wait till it comes out. Just try to be open-minded, yo! :( Just like with the Devil May Cry Reboot. It was actually pretty good than I expected. Heck! I'm still going to buy it when it comes out for $30 for the PS4, from Fry's. (Deus Ex: HR was on sale for $30 after 1 month of its initial release. I'll assume they'll do the same for Thief 4.)

  5. Wow! This game runs pretty smooth on your Nexus 5, than my Nexus 7 (2012). Lucky you! xP - I can only imagine if the Dark Mod was for Android tablets (not phones! That would be difficult trying to find loot on a tiny screen).

Like if you want to interact or steal stuff from the environment, you don't just press a measly button, but you can click it right on screen!.

  6. Dang, I'm looking around the recent posts and I feel like I'm the only one that doesn't have a gaming PC here! If Thief 4 is good, I'm getting it for the PS4...sometime after I get Metal Gear Solid 5! :D

Until we get a response from EM themselves, DarknessFalls noticed NuGaret seems to need to be standing to open doors, sliding into place and leaving a crouched position instead of just opening the dadgummed door. I'll be keeping an eye out for that. The reports that the full animation for opening a door needs to play out before the player gets control again were already bad enough.

Dude, your being too picky on the tiniest of quirks! 0_o

  7. I really like the mini-hub areas in TDS, especially when you try breaking the game and starting a war on the streets with the Pagans, Hammers, Thugs, and Guards! It is so funny!

Additionally, I liked in TDS is that moss arrows are actually useful against NPCs! If you shoot a moss arrow in the NPC's mouth, they'll start choking on it for a little while. Something I wish TDM would implement. xD

There are some funny moments here and there that kinda breaks the game, but in a good way.

  8. This reminds me of some guy on youtube who did a live action Thief video, where he ran up to a big house, crouching, sneaking, avoiding light, and then broke in a side door and dashed around the place, stealing things. It was kind of cool, except...there was nobody home. No "AI" anywhere. No one to catch him.

It made the whole thing kind of pointless. If this is how Thief 4 is going to be, why bother?

Changing anything at this point, especially AI and patrols, would require a whole additional layer of play testing. I'm guessing they don't have time or resources to do that and still meet the February 25th release date.

Aw man, that sucks. Because visually, I think EM did a great job in the art direction. I particually like the immersive Garrett's hands thing to make the game more realistic, compared to the orignal Thief games where you can open/close a door 5 feet way! Lol!

Dang it! I really want this game to be awesome! Now, after reading that article, I'm having doubts. I'm going to see a walkthrough of the first 4 levels of the game before I buy it! x(

  9. Speaking of things that can be turned off. Lots of hands-on reviewers are pushing how "everything" can be turned off, but that's not true. I hope they'll make it true before the last week of Feb., and not in a patch or never.

Yeah, here is a video about the Thief 4 options:

Lol! I don't think I can turn every challenge mod on, otherwise I would tear my hair out! xD

And I honestly have a weird feeling that I cannot wait till it comes out to play it! :D

  10. I really do like the art direction, and small touches for Thief 4. That's what I find Eidos's strong point from their previous games.

But I would have to agree with everyone else that the gameplay might be questionable, even with "noob" mode turned off. I still yet to see some steam punk elements in it (Thief 2), or horror/Pagan elements from it (Thief 1) which made the original game unique from just being a average stealth game.

Thief Themes I've noticed in the games do far:

    - Thief 1 - Pagan

    - Thief 2 - Hammerites

    - Thief 3 - Keepers

    - Thief 4 - Robin Hood(?)

Idk, I still think Thief 2 is the best in it's series for its variety of steam punk robots, turrets, and cameras.

  11. it has been years since I played or really payed attention to TDM, shame on me but real life is demanding, and I'd like to know a few things?

did the Dev team ever make the official mission series they were once considering doing? I can understand how a project like this sucks up the time but here's hoping.

of the missions we have which ones have the best story? What have I missed that was super fantastic?

thanks for all you guys have done with this, it is amazing that TDM is still alive and healthy.

Me too, I am kind of in the same boat. Did you come back to The Dark Mod again, because of all the Thief 4 hype? Have you got to play a few of the missions yourself?

I just find it amazing that it feels stable, compared to the beta version I've played 2+ years ago, and practically feels almost like a triple A title game!

  12. What is up everyone! I just want to say TDM standalone mod is awesome! Its been 2+ years since I last played it (when it was in beta I think). I came back to this game again, because of all the "good and bad" hype of Thief 4, and PC Gamer mentioned mod of the year.

It is just so cool seeing things finalized for a mod that has been in development so long!

Recently, I've been trying to find some Thief 2 inspired levels. You know, where it had factories , submarines, and other steampunk environments? Including security cameras, robots, turrets that made Thief 2 more modern and challenging. Does anyone know of any good missions out there?
