  1. 1) Glenham Tower *

    2) The North *

    3) Return to City

    4) The Heart of the Lone Salvation

    5) Tears of St.Lucia

    It's very difficult to decide 1th or 2th place of this ranking.

    I think The North it's the best mission so far, pure classic Thief, a joy to play and re-play, but the idea and the creativity in Sotha's mission, it's a pure gem too.

  2.

    Is there actually supposed to be a ritual to pass by the haunt?

    Finding the secret crypt entrance was a bit... obscure (i gave up and noclipped to see it, and once found it was easy to recognize the readable hint though).

    Also this mission has the same problem in linux in my graphics card than st. lucia had: a wooden bed resource had wood edges that appeared painted blue. This is probably a bug in either the graphics card driver or the resources since it appears in both missions.

    Same problem here!

    (my specs are on the sign)

  3. Yep, it currently needs to run from ~/.doom3. However, I'm fairly certain that I implemented a fix to make sure that it crashes more gracefully if the 'fms' folder doesn't exist instead of the nasty Boost exception way.

    Your tip worked!

    The magic was to launch all from /.doom3, instead of /darkmod directory as on the past. Now it works perfectly!

    (no more glicthes, or graphic error!)

    Maybe someone have to change/update the installation instructions on the wiki e and on site.

    I have only a wood texture on some bed that don't work/appeare, maybe i'll take a screenshot, but for me the problem (on the beginning of this thread) it's solved: now i can play the 1.08, and i'm very happy :-D

  4. Just finished!

    As Biker said, this is candidate to be one of the best FM for TDM so far.

    As appareance and architecture , IMHO is the best.

    The stealth classic thief gameplay it's a their best, the lightning technique and the AI it's superior . IMHO only the story it's not so magic as the rest of this masterpiece. I really enjoyed and i will re-play this FM for sure.

    Congratulation to Grayman, BRAVO! :-D

    PS, and also the 1.08 it's so cool, a super step forward on this mod!

  5. On a personal note I have to say this is a stunning piece of art by Gman, this is by way and a far the best mission for the darkmod I have ever had the distinct pleasure of playing. I won't be surprised if this becomes most people's favourite TDM mission of all time. The bar has been raised again!

    @Gman, I have posted this over on TTlg for you.

    WOW!

    I can't wait to play!

    (pity i still cannot play right the new TDM 1.08 on my linux box, but I'll solve this, and this mission will be an incentive!)

  6. At the moment TDM needs the Doom3 base PK4s - without that, a lot of missions will crash upon load and others will show graphical corruptions.

    TDM can not be run without Doom 3 being installed. We are working on making it stand alone, but we're not there yet.

    Ok, so the graphical gliches are for that.

    Um, so I have to re-install doom3.

    Idea: it's possibile to manually insert only the Pk4s needed by TDM in the /base doom3 directory?

    (without the total re-installation...I said that because i've lost the doom3 package with serial, i have only the iso cds)

    Or TDM needs other things from the Doom3 rather then Pk4s?

  7. Ok, got it to run, but ... not well. Reminded me why i only played this in wine.

    Anyway, torches have a non-transparency problem (black nimbus)

    confirm/deny? Updating drivers now (Ati).

    No sound even with pasuspender.

    Fucks with the resolution after getting out (the resolution is my desktop 16:9, 1366x768, which, btw, is the only way to set the game (same resolution as desktop) if you don't want the menu to look like ass due to some kind of filtering.)

    But when it exits is suddenly turns into another 16:9 : 1026X600. Unsatisfactory, may need a bash file bashing.

    How do you turn off the default 'mission started' popup? Highly annoying since i had the attack button disabled

    edit: ah!

    seta tdm_player_wait_until_ready "0"

    I confirm graphical bugs on torches and trasparency.

    The only resolution that i can use it's my native resolution of the screen 1920x1080 all other res it's a mess.

    I have a lot of black/not present textures in some areas (maybe it's because i don't have doom3 base directory installed?)

  8. I canceled the incremental package (136 MB), and re-downloaded all.

    And nothing, when applying the update i have always the error from the beginning.

    Now i try to manually edit the script.

    Edit: nothing, i cannot solve the problem :-(

    I also tried to remove all .doom3 directory, re-install all doom3 there from scratch, updated, and there run tdm_update.linux, but always with the same error when apply the incremental update downloaded.

    I think there is some problem on the script (the default path that the script try to use)

    Nobody has this problem with Linux?

    Edit2:

    I solved today: I deleted *all* doom3 stuff, created a new directory /.doom3/darkmod, copied the TDM_updater4linux there, and launched.

    It crashed/stopped 2-3 times on download. Re-Launched every time, it ended ok the installation, without any error!

    So now it works the main menu, and i'm completely without doom3 installation :-D

    I launched training mission and it works!

    (but with a lot of graphical bug, no trasparency on flames, gliches, black textures, etc etc)

    Anyway, i'm happy that at least now i can launch the main menu, first step done ;-)

  9. I Launched linux update, he downloaded the new updater, and relaunched automatically, nice :-D

    The new script downloaded the incremental part needed (138 MB about), but when finioshed, and try to update the differential package downloaded, then i have this error:

    *************************************

    Applying differential update package...

    [======= ] 32.0% Checking: tdtdm_update.linux: /home/rand/Desktop/Doom3/TDMSource/darkmod_src_branch_108/darkmod_src/include/boost/smart_ptr/shared_ptr.hpp:418: T* boost::shared_ptr<T>::operator->() const [with T = tdm::ZipFileWrite]: Assertion `px != 0' failed.

    [======== ] 35.0% Preparing PK4: tdm_prefabs01.pk4

    Abort signal received, trying to exit gracefully

    *********************************

    I see that path on the script it's not right (/home/rand/Desktop..., my home directory it's not /rand), maybe the problem it's there.

    I see also that on the error log say: "Checking: tdtdm_update.linux" the updater file name it's bad.

    Any suggestion?

  10. From the bethblog site:

    << We have just released ‘The Awakening’- the first in a three-part Dishonored webisode series entitled ‘The Tales from Dunwall’. These engrossing prequels, scored by Daniel Licht (Dexter) and narrated by Chloe Grace Moretz (Kick Ass), gives you a first-hand glimpse into Dishonored’s shadowy whaling world of Dunwall, where plague is rampant and the city is in disarray and on the verge of dystopia.

    Concepted by Rokkan and developed by Psyop, each episode was predominantly produced by hand. Each frame was a fully rendered style frame, which was then enhanced with 3D elements to add to the painterly atmosphere, dimension and depth of each shot. >>

    Here is the first webpisode:

    Really not bad! It reminds me the thief videos mission briefing.

    Waiting for the game :-D

  11. A lot of it looks like TDM on steroids. A bit too much action for a "stealth game", but that might be actually more fun and appeal to the mass market more.

    Subscribe: it's like TDM but with new visuals. And yes, seeing this video there is too much action, IMHO. I prefere TDM, but of course this DisHonored it's made by talented guys who believe in PC games as art, so i think it will be a must to play.

    Pity it's not an openworld.

    Here be a trailer showing actual in-game footage. It looks good, not much different from the rendered stuff.

    It's great :-) , but from a tech POV, for a game of this budget and level, the animations are not so high quality.

  12. I'm waiting the next album from "Echolyn", i'm a big fan of "As The world", IMHO one of the best album of the 90'.

    I'm a nostalgic progressive amateur (my favourite band o all the time are "Yes"), but for "modern prog", i like Echolyn, like said, and also Sean Malone and Cynic.

  13. first book is better than the sequel ;_;

    And the guy delayed the finisher. Probably his editor stamped the foot and he's now dealing with his chronic alcoholism problem (joke!)

    I've read that he got a deep depression because is wife left him...

    Anyway: i like the universe he created. I'ts some kind of Garret/Thief, but tiny and without any muscle, only a super smart guy, and there is a lot of ironic soul. I liked especially how he used the magic in the first book, quite unusual. It's not easy to write some original fantasy novel, but his first effort is really good, IMHO.

  14. Here's how I imagine a group of engineers would live if society goes all "big brother" on us:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5rM7QDi_5E

    A bit of a long watch, but I thought it was worth my time. I love how Loren Amelang is using his whole "swiss-army knife" of mechanical, electrical, and computer engineering to live out in the woods. This must be why engineers are so invaluable! :laugh:

    Really interesting :-D

  15. Has anyone read The Lies of Locke Lamora? It's the first in the Gentleman Bastard series by Scott Lynch. It's about a gang of thieves and con artists in a fantasy setting. My friend recomended it to me on account of my love for the thief games. I'm finding it a very fun read so far.

    I just finished the first book of the series that you suggested (by Scott Lynch) some time ago: it's AMAZING. I really liked :-D

    Lynch it's an incredbile storyteller and so young. I'll buy the second volume :-D

    Thank you (and to your friend!) for your suggestion and sharing.

  16. It's perfectly possible that the open source community will end up putting the depth fail method back in, since (1) software patents aren't universally enforceable and (2) companies don't generally bother suing open source projects for patent infringement because there is no money in it (and a lot of bad PR).

    It's primarily a legal issue for id software: as I recall the GPL requires the copyright holder to grant a free licence for any patents that they know apply to the software, which obviously id software cannot do because they don't own the patent in question. This will be why their lawyers required the change to be made before the GPL release.

    I agree, and we all enjoy this:

    ***********************

    // patent-free work around

    if ( !external ) {

    // "preload" the stencil buffer with the number of volumes

    // that get clipped by the near or far clip plane

    qglStencilOp( GL_KEEP, tr.stencilDecr, tr.stencilDecr );

    GL_Cull( CT_FRONT_SIDED );

    RB_DrawShadowElementsWithCounters( tri, numIndexes );

    qglStencilOp( GL_KEEP, tr.stencilIncr, tr.stencilIncr );

    GL_Cull( CT_BACK_SIDED );

    RB_DrawShadowElementsWithCounters( tri, numIndexes );

    }

    ***********************

    "Patent free work around", ROTFL! ;-)

    Really cool John! :-D
