  1. Hi Stepan and welcome to the forums. I think you misinterpreted this thread a little. We are not seeking free music here, but well, as the thread says, progressive, innovative or unconventional music. :) Thanks for sharing, anyway! ;)

Maybe in Europe the music on NoCopyrightSounds is considered fairly standard. In the U.S., that kind of music is not very popular.

The fact that it is free/no copyright is an added bonus - but they actually only allow you to use it royalty free without permission on YouTube or Twitch. They might be supported by Google somehow. If you want to use it somewhere else you have to get permission from them.

I would categorize most of the music on NoCopyrightSounds as progressive rock or pop. Whether or not it is innovative or unconventional - like I said at least not in the U.S.

Fore example, the band who made this song:

Also made a song using the voice of a goat - I don't think you can get more innovative or unconventional than that:

  2. Looks nice. The mesh is good, but the texturing could be a bit better imho. What is lacking are hairs on the legs and body. This would make it look even more disgusting.

Let me know if this looks better:

If you want some inspiration for your spiders, Path of Exile has some great spiders. They're hairy and colourful and gross, when they die their legs curl up and the front pair twitch every now and then, well worth taking a look at.

    Path of Exile is awesome.

  3. Hello home-skillet sandwiches,

I made a space spider for my wonderful game-in-progress Icarus: Starship Command Simulator:

This is the first of three critters I will be doing. The other two are a zombie and a space worm. I am going to use them aboard derelict ships in my game.

They both use the same skeleton/armature but have slightly different meshes - one has rounder attributes and a larger abdomen. I also created two smaller versions - which required scaling the meshes/armature and all the animations down.

I noticed that in the vanilla source code they have max legs of 8 in ik.cpp (search for MAX_LEGS) - everything seemed to work fine for the 8 legs of my spider :) - any more than this and this constant might need to be adjusted. It can walk over obstacles and the legs rise and fall appropriately.

For the death animation I always thought it was creepiest when spiders crumple up. So instead of having a complicated .af file - I basically made the AF just a cylinder with only the two front arms having physics bodies attached to the joints. If all the arms go limp when the spider is killed it doesn't look as creepy in my opinion. I noticed that idSoftware did the AF's for monster_demon_trite and monster_demon_tick the same way.

Let me know what you think.

  4. Those Insecturans look amazing. Are you going to release these? as I would love to put them in an FM.. they sort of remind me of those creepy Thief 2 stickman creature thingys. But i'm always cautious about posts like yours because they usually follow the typical "hey look at this awesome stuff I made which looks incredible" and then they disappear forever to never release it and the post gets buried.

So with that said do you have an ETA on these? or is this all teaser stuff?

    Hello Mr Goldwell,

I'm actually going to try to eventually sell them as part of my game. I made a post while back about it on here:

    http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/16812-im-going-to-try-to-sell-a-game-using-the-id-tech-4-engine/

I don't have a concrete ETA. I want to have a version of my game that I can start taking around to game jams and other events this summer or fall and have people play.

If however, my project is a complete failure or it doesn't seem like it is going to make any money - I'll be more than happy to put them out there under CC BY-SA or something similar - probably on http://opengameart.org/

  5. This one I got off Turbosquid (just the model - it wasn't rigged or textured):

This one I did the concept myself:

I'm going for a clean/simplistic aesthetic. Each species is going to have a color theme to help differentiate which kind of ship you are aboard. The top one is yellow/orange/brown/black. The bottom one is green/green-yellow/black - and their ships will have a good amount of grey I think as well (I must have been inspired by the Cardassians/Romulans for this one).
