  1. I'm going to post all the TDM issues on Bountysource, then apply to fix them. ;)

Yeah, and I'll post all my models on Turbosquid for 5$ apiece and people can pay for the ones they want to see added to the mod. :)

Who would have imagined that a team who build a whole game around stealing money could have so impure thoughts...?

  2. Hi Guys: How do I find the destination of the ship? Except that I was able to complete all the other "ship"-board objectives. BTW, I cannot "pick" the haunted tome. Is there any special key I need to press? Thanks, -Garette

Read the tome multiple times (the text should change), then it goes to your inventory automatically. Did you pick up the loot near the skeleton? If I remember correctly the destination should tick off, when you read the captain's log.

  3. Thanks for the help! Stupid me, I didn't even try to lockpick that.

So, the mission is now finished. Or is it?

The first part on the ship is wonderful, and the second part, too, I guess, if it had more readables. Most of the time I had no idea what I was doing. Why exactly did the ship crash? What's the ghost's intention? I am alone on the beach, so should I go get help? Suddenly evil men appear (why are they evil? Okay, they try to kill me, so better take them out, but why?) What's the history of the men there? Why is there a body lying upstairs? What is this strange light on the mountain? Am I supposed to have a look on that or should I go back to the ship? Let's go up and see what these lights are..., ooh, a tunnel, what horrors and/or treasures are in there? Meep! Game end. Wha...?

All the climbing builds up tension and then suddenly - nothing. Don't get me wrong: Wonderful mission, interesting story, I will definitely replay the mission, but God help you if you don't come up with a sequel any time soon! Just so I know where that damn tunnel leads to.

And I had to noclip once while climbing the mountain and twice in the ship (behind my own crate).

  4. Just finished the mission. And I actually liked the architecture. It looked like folks were joining different buildings without a plan and that's what I would expect by a medieval city. It was a bit boxy though. Medieval architects wouldn't have the means to build walls so perfectly straight. :P But what's most important: I had fun playing it. Good focus on lavatories, too. Looking forward to your next mission, Buck28.

  5. The whole idea is to attract (external) developers after all. So, yes, it should be highlighted that the funds are for the developer and not for the TDM team (although that would be cool, too. I mean this forum alone does incur some costs, right?).

Is this ticket at Bountysource a first test balloon to see how it works out? And are some developers interested yet? Since I have no background, is this GPU skinning a more or less minor issue or would a programmer need a 3 days of coding for that? What I want to ask is, from TDM teams's perspective, can the job be done for a hundred bucks or is it work worth a month's salary?

Sorry, I am afraid, my real life job dictated the questions...

  6. At Reddit I found a post by nbohr1more regarding help with GPU skinning. He asks for coding or funding. I believe this is a great idea to outsource developments that either can't be solved by the TDM team alone or are for some reason currently not in focus.

It's great because although I have no tech background I can still help by donating (which is great), and I wonder why this idea wasn't posted in The Dark Mod Forums yet (at least I did not find it, so apologies if it was).

Isn't that something to have in this 'I want to help' section? Isn't that something that should be advertised more here in the forums?

Or I am just ignorant and you do that already for years?

  7. Wow, just finished the mission and all I can say is THANK YOU Sotha! The intro made me feel uneasy already, but then the noises and finally seeing these... things with the red light! I was so surprised and terrified I almost forgot to hide. The whole mission was fascinating (though the backyard was a bit easy to cross, but maybe I was just lucky) and I found myself saving the game so often, sometimes I did not even move in between... Excellent, convincing story, good characters and a challenging architecture! Can't wait for Ulysses 2...

  9. Hi!

Since I am trying out ubuntu 13.04 right now, I thought that I should try installing TDM 2.0. So I checked the wiki and tried my best.

As it is a standalone version now, I saved the TDM Updater (tdm_update_linux.zip) in the folder ~/.darkmod/ (instead of in a doom3 folder)

(btw: why does it need to be a hidden folder?).

I extracted the file, made it executable by right-clicking it

(Properties->Permissions->Allow executing file as program (Checkbox)).

Then I double-clicked the tdm_update.linux. Magically files did appear (also a folder 'fms' containing the training mission and tears of st lucia).

But now I'm stuck. Double-clicking the .pk4 files did not work. Dash gives no results for neither darkmod nor tdm. How do I get to play it?

Well, I'm pretty sure I provoked some severe facepalms by now, but every help is highly appreciated...

  10. Just finished it. Very nice first mission!

I had a hard time finding the exit (I would have needed a hint like a glowing mushroom or something else - I must have passed the exit ten times or so) and some loot is just out of reach for me, but overall: Very nice and I have to play it again... Thanks!

  11. I missed the release of this mission and learned about it only last week. It makes me wonder, why has it not a name of its own?

It's not just a rebuild is it? No: In my opinion this is the best TDM Mission so far!!

I'm so excited, I just finished it and I want to play again! The gameplay and visuals were incredible, challenging, rewarding, lots of loot, non-KOable guards and best of all:

    no zombies!, no spiders!

and yet so tense. Obsttorte, thank you! Great job, full marks everywhere!

  12. I am one of those people who ko every guard but in this mission I held back because the RITs were so fascinating. You should add a optional objective that limits KOs to 5. And maybe no knocking out important guests or their guards or something like that. I LOVED the RITs.

I don't think that limiting is solving the problem. People will feel forced to comply. BUT: The author could comment on this in the introduction of the FM (or the thread), saying, if you do KO everyone you WILL miss a lot. Let the players decide for themselves.

  13. Sorry to correct you: there is no button which does not work.

In that room there are 2 buttons (!) instead that you need to push. For sure you missed the other one.

And you do not have to 'noclip' in order to make progress.

While this mission surely is unique in some way, it is clearly not impossible to play it in a reasonable way.

Ok, there is virtually no story and the entire thing is just a plain a key-hunt, with great visual effects.

But hey ! With your lantern and some thoroughfull investigation there is barely anything you could miss. :excl:

Get back to the mission and use your lantern in the dark rooms - because that is is what it is intended for. :)

Loot should not be a problem either, I played on the highest level.

Hi gnartsch, thanks for your hints, but there's no need to teach me how to play.(deleted). I was barely expressing my thoughts on this mission. You do not have to agree. Thank you.

  14. Well, I "finished" the FM... meaning, I had to cheat a lot and still do not understand, how somebody is supposed to find everything.

With help from this thread I managed to get to the button that does not work (like Bikerdude already mentioned) so I had to noclip through the wall and find Clement. After that I was completely lost. I only understood afterwards that you need to put the ruby in the gargoyle's eye (so I noclipped into that room, too). Then, I was only left with the objective to find "something valuable". Still have no clue what is meant here. Again, I had to noclip trough a wall in the crypt and could start the boat-trip although the objective was not ticked off. So, I finished without finishing all the objectives. Throughout the whole mission I would have liked some guidance, maybe by more readables, that explain what the player might actually do to fulfil all the objectives. For instance, I thought the ruby (since it wasn't loot) would be "something valuable" and thought, well, maybe the FM is buggy, like the Clement-button that should have worked. Completely by chance I found the golden sword. Why the hell should someone go back into the dead man's room, after killing Clement? Stuff like that ruined it for me. Although, of course, visually the mission is gold. It was the story that confused me. Why am I here? What are the builders planning? Why so many secret rooms and levers? Why would someone have ponds before the staircases?
