  1. Early access games are complicated. I had a fantastic experience with Kerbal Space Program but I have the impression KSP is the exception to the rule. Every other early access I bought was a disappointment. I would wait (I am waiting, actually, this game looks cool)

  2. Fear can be generated in a number of ways. Showing a deformed humanoid (which includes zombies and monsters in general) is the cheapest form of horror, it's what children fear usually. I'm not knowledgeable on this stuff to give fancy counter examples, I've never experienced a game that made me fear more abstract things like loneliness, the unknown, doing your tax etc but it should be possible.

I've felt a low level of anxiety that could be classified as mild fear in games about exploring dark dungeons. You can't see much, can't hear anything but have to press forward.

Actually, I just remember getting exactly that feeling from a very cartoony and cute game! Outer Wilds (still in development), it's a space exploration game and there's a planet that is basically just dense fog populated by gigantic scary fish. So you're slowly moving through the fog when something that fills the entire screen starts to break through the fog in your direction. It's pretty awesome.

  3. That Wolfenstein is fun  I was once an experienced free games scavenger but it's been a while since I played any free games, good or otherwise. Gamejolt is a good source but there's a lot of garbage to dig through. If you want a small level of curation I recommend jayisgames.com

  4. Yeah, I usually don't care much for celebrities but this is just terrible.

Depression is often dismissed as trivial, or thought of as something that has a cause, like general sadness. It's a medical condition and it can kill if untreated.

  5. I've been on this forum for years and even though I haven't played TDM in a long while I still visit almost daily. Now that I'm moving to the other hemisphere later this year I would like to know if it will be close by any of you. We can have coffee and talk about videogames :)

I'm going to Iowa City in august, to start my PhD at Iowa U. Or do I say I'm starting a grad... eh... program? I don't know! I'm starting something. If I finish it you'll have to call me Dr. Diegzumillo III.

  6. Did you ever thought about picking this up again. Personally I enjoyed it a lot. It'S simple but pure entertainment, with the right dose of difficulty. I must admit that I like to play simulators, though. ;)

So nice to know someone's enjoying it! :D

Every now and then I consider working on it again. I guess I'm not very enthusiastic about the current structure of unconnected scored levels though.

My worst enemy in these game dev projects is that if it's too simplistic I lose interest fast, then I make it overly ambitious and I become overwhelmed and frustrated :P I'll see if I can make this into something I'm excited about without turning it into unfeasible.

  7. Video games tend to be self leveling if they are open enough.

Very true. Any competent sandbox will drain hours of your day. I think I've been playing Kerbal Space Program for years and each play session tends to steal my entire morning/afternoon/night.

I live for this feeling, actually. Everything I do is because I want it. Sometimes it can be pretty frustrating though; for example I dedicated a few years of my life to study physics, but I haven't achieved this flow state in physics as frequently as I would like to (sure, it happened a few times) because one needs to be doing research on its own feet to properly get the flow. Until then you're pretty much following a set path, it's less exciting. It's like painting, but you only get to paint a canvas after a decade of hard work.
