  1. One crit...the glutes and leg muscles look very mammalian for an insect.

It could also play to the models versatility. The way it looks now it could be an insect creature or it could also be a costume thought up by the Inventor's Guild to frighten people away from an area so that they could expand their territory.

  2. Oh, and most importantly, did you read Microsoft's terms of usage or the "pviracy statement"? http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/preview-privacy-statement

It's simply unbelievable how much crap Microsoft has to take from people on the net who try to force their minority opinion to the majority of users, keep that in mind too. Has more to do with politics than anything else.

Yeah, you "agreed" to it... so... yeah they can do whatever they want. I don't know if Demagogue has looked at that EULA but I would be curious the opinion of an actual lawyer on that piece of writing. The language is exTREMely open ended/un-specific and I understand that a certain amount of that is for, "Cover Thy Ass" insurance, against numb-nut idiots and people trying to exploit the OS. The issue is, this open ended language ultimately permits, whatever they want, while we KNOW they are bringing targetted advertising in to the OS. Its like a one-two punch to the gut of the consumer (with their hands tied behind their back).

I personally don't think MS is up to anything malicious (particularly) and isn't out to get you or any bullshit like that. I just think they're trying to unify a system that doesn't want or need or can be unified.

Phones/tablets/portable touch devices/smart home appliances/console game devices/ etc. I think can all be grouped in to one ecosystem but PCs are not and have never been one of those devices and should not ever become one. PCs used to be about what a USER wanted to do, what ever it is. If they want to do this, they can do this. If they want to do that, they can do that and more importantly if they DON'T want their PC to do something, that PC follows their orders. They're the USER. Software and Hardware are made for them to use to do the things they want to do.

Losing site of the USER and worse, using the User to pull ad revenue, in a place that has always classically been the User's domain, the PC, is just.... really really sad. The fact that MS has gone this direction, for me at least, speaks to the lack of direction, originality, and creativeness, in their company.

I personally have no issue with anything in Windows 10 save for one thing. If you have the "Pro" version of the OS you should, as a user, be able to disable ANY FUNKING THING YOU WANT. If it breaks the OS, that's because you meant to. You can fix it. If you have stable drivers loaded for playing a game or regression testing, you don't want your OS coming in with a god fist and undoing your work only to have to remove and reinstall what you were using and then blocking temporarily (explicatives!) some update that should never be pushed to the box in the first place. More importantly, you shouldn't EVER have to think about this in the first place! The OS should be transparent and unobtrusive!

From Windows 7, I'm all for regular, Critical updates, being installed automatically no matter what. If there's a problem, you should be able to remove that problem and block future issues.

For drivers though, particularly from a "regular user" who doesn't have any idea what they're even using, or what "right clicking the task bar" even means, auto-updating drivers is the worst idea in the history of man (exaggeration).

"My computer won't come on..." Um... did you try and boot in to safe mode? "What's that?" Um... click. I can picture the support calls now.

I think Windows 10 should install all the latest greatest hardware drivers on initial install and then either should not install another driver ever, OR should give the User a freaking checkbox to say, "NO THANK YOU!! I'M THE USER AND I DON'T LIKE BREAKING MY PC AT REGULAR INTERVALS".

In summary, Windows 7 is on my Personal Computer. It does what I tell it to. Its not on an appliance, toaster, refrigerator, phone, point-of-sale device, tablet, gps, car computer, or any other touch screen enabled anything.

Windows 10 wants to be but its made for dumb devices and people.

It has nothing to do with a conspiracy.

  3. I'm running SLi and 3 monitors (actually 4 monitors) and Nv Surround + SLi is a buggy farging mess right now in Windows 10 with flashing and wonky task bar behavior, etc, so I won't be upgrading any time soon...

I did refresh my system backups though so I'm "ready" at the drop of a hat but I think that's going to be at least 6 mo. and probably longer... booo!... oh well.

I'm definitely not upgrading my WMC pc that I use for DVR functionality and that replaces the absolute piece-of-garbage DVR that is Time Warner Cable's idea of a DVR with 2 tuners and hardware from 1999 in it.

No WMC ever again and Windows 7 support for only another 5 years... :(

    • No sound from any XFI sound card, despite driver installed and the card set to default sound output - the fix, is to set bit depth set to 16bit / 44khz

Related: SB Z series drivers will be out this month or next for Win10. Based on everything I've seen and read on Win10 and with Skylake (at least for someone running triple screen resolutions) being what I would call a total flop vs. the aging 2600k Sandy Bridge, what could have been a really exciting year in technology seems to be fizzling out.

Oh well, I guess Sandy Bridge E is out next year and maybe they'll get Win10 sorted in another year as well...

  4. I like both the stone textures a lot. The wood has conflicts though. Reason being, the normal map presents lots of ripples and waves in the wood as if its "rough sawn" however the gloss is medium high as if the floor is polished smooth to some extent. If there are visible waves casting shadow in the wood surface, the surfaces should not reflect light at all. If the surface is upscale and polished to where it reflects light in the least, there will not be any ripples to cast shadow.

The only real exception to this is when you have a rough sawn floor that is well traveled and naturally polished by the foot traffic upon it. In this case though, the floor will have smooth pathways worn in to it and not be uniformly reflective.

    Good stuff though.

  5. I'm not sure why people choose to use torrent when you can just get the Updater from the official site, run the Updater, and it will gather everything you need AND get the most up-to-date versions of everything. Otherwise you're trusting, usually, an unknown source to package the files up and who knows if they have an agenda, what their agenda is, and what's tossed in along with everything else.

If you have install issues, its always best to go to the source first and try the install with verified original files if they're available, unless the IP is blocked in your location or some other network anomaly.

Like downloading the Updater from here --->http://www.thedarkmod.com/download-the-mod/

And then letting the updater grab everything it needs.

Glad you got it working though.

  6. Why didn't you choose Thief? System Shock 2 is a very bad example in my opinion, because a lot of things make no sense at all! Like the constant weapons degradation forcing you to use the wrench for half of the game while at the same time featuring high tech vendor machines on a civilian spaceship that can make ammo. And don't get me talking about the level design which has nothing at all in common in how a spaceship could look. Even worse than the artificial levels of Deus Ex!

Aside from the inventory screen not being present in the Thief series, these three games are very similar. Thiefs, Deus Ex, SS2. I can't fault you for preferring Thief because I seriously love it myself. He had just finished up No One Lives Forever 2 and the next CD on the stack was System Shock 2 and he'd asked me about it so ...that's kinda how it happened.

  7. Its funny you know...

I installed System Shock 2 (which if you ask me is Deus Ex's counter part from that era (two of the greatest games of all time) with all the mods/packs/updates, etc., on my niece and nephews PC because they recently spent a week over here and I wanted my nephew to play through it and get an understanding for how games "used" to be.

He played it for about a couple hours and throughout said things like, "what do I do?", "how do I do this?", "how do I do that?", "it's too hard"... constantly constantly and I honestly couldn't believe it.

The attitude kids have today and the skillset for problemsolving just doesn't seem like its there anymore. Like its been bread out of them by corporations that want mindless automaton smartphone using employees that say yes boss and do what they're told and push the buttons but don't know why (queue Deus Ex ominous music score). He's a "straight A's" student too, active in sports, constantly playing "Clash of Clans" (kill me now). It was pretty disappointing honestly that he couldn't even get in to it.

I guess it sucks when you get wounded and your health doesn't regenerate...

  8. Finally had a chance to finish this up today. 6hr 23min total time, found 2/5 secrets in the first part, 10/15 in the second part. 5508 loot :\ I suck! hehe.

This is an amazing FM. Really just superb in every way like others have said.

I did have an issue at the end and unfortunately I don't have saves because reloading is what fixed it for me. Using the Holy Symbol and frobbing the blue/red flame stone fountains behind bars at the end. Not sure why but after frobbing the hammer on the guys back and then operating the lever on one of the barred areas in the spirit world, I was teleported back to where the guy with the hammer was and I was in the caged area. Frobbing the fountain with the red flame at this point would only take me back to the area with the bad man walking around where'd I just come from. I unlocked all the prisons and frobbed all the fountains in the spirit area but frobbing them only took me back to the area with the guy with the hammer. I couldn't get out of prison. Only thing I could do was frob the fountain again and that took me back to the spirit world side. A bug I guess. I tried for about 45 minutes and then thought screw it, maybe I missed something, so I reloaded from a hard save point. After that everything worked like it should. :)

  9. In addition to the wiki's I have also found it extremely helpful reading through all of the other FM makers threads in The Editors Guild sub-section of the forums.

Using Google instead of using the forum search is also way more efficient when you encounter an issue and only have so much time to work, i.e. you can't or don't want to wait for responses to a thread in the forums.

    Google searching like this ---> site:http://forums.thedarkmod.com __search_terms_here___

    So for instance:

site:http://forums.thedarkmod.com AI falling through the floor

    site:http://forums.thedarkmod.com mapping thread

You can quickly find a multitude of discussions and solutions and keep them open in seperate tabs for reference.

Obstortte's "Let's Map" series is also very highly recommended. ---> http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/16176-obsttorte-presents-lets-map-tdm/

I would also suggest 1st completely going through the A-Z tutorial and just compile a list of questions in a Notepad file as you go through. Many times your questions will be answered later in the tutorial or you'll discover them on your own as you progress through the tutorial and you'll be more efficient with your time and not get hung up on something.

  10. I'm upgrading in the fall after Skylake comes out and I'm hesitant to install Win10 because it may be "tied to hardware". I currently have a technet Win7 ultimate edition which can be basically installed on every PC in your home and I seriously doubt that my Win10 Pro license is going to be like that. From what I've read, MS has been very... odd.... in their wording of the license terms. E.g. "for the life of the device".... wtf that is ugly.

Does anyone have any definite information to the contrary?
