  1. THere were no potions, there were flechetts, and they work different for each class. If you used them, then you used the inventory. There should have been quartz flasks, urns, torches, porkalators, dark servants, boots of speed, the icon of the defender... Well, I hope you don't think I was talking about rpg-style inventory, there is sure no gold or equip slots, the game is not RPG, ypu have your 4 weapons, that's all. But still, at that time, placing acid fletchettes and watching monsters suffocating from them was cool.

The storyline is not in the game - I had to read it. It helps raise the atmosphere. But if you don't like the game, it won't help. I read it 10 years after playing it.

I think you just got bored and didn't reach much. The game begins with a door-key association, you find the green key for one door, silver for another, then you ring the bell, go to the portal, enter another portal and you see the head on my avatar saying you are about to die. That's the seven portals level, the first hub. Did you reach there? There should be seven doors there. Gold doors.

  2. In Gothic you had the skill of fighting, and if you have a high skill, you had to attack with intervals in order for the combination to work. In fable you can attack at any time, that is freer. But if I am to choose between Gothic and Fable, I choose Gothic.

  3. what was ever complicated in hexen? i never met hexen2 but i remember hexen i was pretty much like doom.. kill what comes around, swith buttons here and there, complete the level..

Well, if we compare DooM and heXen, there are differences. Inventory, for a start. You can play 3 classes, even though they are not very different. Hub system, mark you. Proper storyline. Speaking of complication - well, I don't remember a time when I wasn't stuck in Shadow Wood. Of course, if you just go through Winnowing Hall and run around Seven Portals you will never know that there is a hub system. Meaning that you can switch buttons here and there and in the end you don't know what was opened. And another thing - heXen does not have simultaneos weapons, or enemies with them. And heXen had improved melee. Whatewer, heXen is magical/medieval. Is DooM medieval? Don't try to mix these games. Heretic may be a clone, but not heXen.

Speaking of heXen II, it's quite different. There are 4 classes now, and there is also such thing as level up, but the only thing it does is improve your health. Also, heXen II was more centered on placing objects at the right position, but also in one place you had to adjust the constelations, in another you had to presss something in a particular order. The game also took architectures of Medieval, Greece, Egypt(!), and Maya. Very beautiful, something DooM never had. The hub system again, though, unfortunately, a few linearing bugs. But otherwise the game is better than heXen I, but I like them both.

  4. I liked NWN a lot, single player in fact, what connection it has to Diablo? It's turn-based and has a completely different experience system! And it's not composed of empty areas. What I hate about Diablo II, is those big fields of nothing. DS and NWN are not like that. Hellfire was the best. And those stupid "save and exit".

Well, I think I won't buy AoE III after that demo. I think the Colonial Ages are a big problem with me. All those trading posts, home cities... And, MAPS. The map I liked best in AoE II was Black Forest. I like having closed up areas. And AoE III levels were wide and open, fortunately, the campaign wasn't, but still, forest is no longer an obstackle. Another thing is those stupid sounds. WHen the home city is ready, of someone attacks. The unit control - where are the formations and attitude? Resourses - where is stone? ANd why on Earth is the game 3D and so ugly... Coming back to AoE II, giant Black Forest map, 5 enemies, hardest...

  5. Yeah, what I noticed about Thief - there is no magic of fantasy or stuff, no sci-fi. I wouldn't mind some fantasy, but that is just not the game's style. Keep up the traditions, no gravity guns... Just cruel medieval times, rich kings and nobles needed to be robbed... Well, except zombies, but add more holy water around.

  6. I know why I couldn't kill him (and I did at first dropped the body down the canalisation), I accidently played on expert. Well, I finished it anyway. But now, I'm on a level of mines with zombies and spider, and... I'm stuck. What is funny, I was stuck last time too. I just go around and around and kill the zombies all over again (I like the combat), and there is just that lift...

What is funny, at the end of the first level I actually ran in front of the guards - got that darned scepter, ran through the guards and outside, and hello mines!

  7. I saw the three arrow drawings - the moss, water, and fire. So can that fire arrow ignite? And in Thief Dark Project the water arrows are supposed to turn of light, but I shot at lanterns - doesn't help. ANd what does moss do?

  8. I skipped them in case they blow up the game.

Yeah, the first level is dead familiar. The drunk guard, with a key on him and a lot of bottles around. I killed him with a club. Why is it called blackjack? And it kills everybody after first hit from behind. I can't get hang of the sword, though. In fact, my objectives say - don't kill anyone. So what, if I finish, with all these guard lying in canalisations I will fail at the end of the mission?

  9. Well, I loaded it, but now it sometimes just gets stuck and the only thing that helps is reset.

Graphics are good, about Heretic II/Quake II, quite good-looking, the cut-scenes aren't though.

This is the game I played long time ago - the training is familiar, the canalization and stuff.

The CPU thing helped - it didn't blow of yet!

    I'm dying of fear!

  10. Well, I think you know that, but actually, there are 95 Windows, and NT Windows, and 95, 98 are 95 version, closer to DOS, with excecution by turns, and NT - ME, XP, NT - are fully independent from DOS, so if a program says I'm NT, this does not mean I have NT, this means I have a NT TYPE Windows, but actually it's XP. I'll go try with that panel.

    Works!

Problems again - I load it, when I start to play, it's just black screen, after I choose - training mission.

  11. Well, the games I am waiting for at the moment are - F. E. A. R. and Quake IV(why not heXen III) on 18 October, pretty soon, then HoMaM V somewhere in winter, than there is Dark Messiah in summer, Oblivion and Gothic III somewhere, Age of Empires III, but I didn't like the demo much. Well, Im quite delighted - a lot of games to wait for, in addition to the heXen Edge of Chaos mod and yours, of course.

I wonder if H EoC will be shorter than Half-Life 2 - they made 80% already, that worries me, in fact, no information but 9 screens and a bad movie with one sceleton in it - that is quite distressing. I tried to talk to them on mIRC, but they just don't say anything, the only thing I managed to pull out of them is that the wraithwerge weapon from heXen beyond Heretic will be connected to the storyline, and the character who carries it is a new class, along with Half-Life 2 gravity gun disguesed as telekinesis...

Speaking of Fable - I like the game, it maybe somewhat childish, but not pokemon, just try to adjust to it, and ignore the beginning.

  12. Excue me, if I need warez, I know where to go, not here, I just wanted confirmation of whether I need licensed DooM 3. I just want to say that Russia and Ukraine are corrupted countries who sell pirated copies masked as licensed ones. I cannot install RoE on my DooM - most probable that it was a pirated copy, even though it worked OK. In fact, I had to find a key for it.

I downloaded Thief now, I'll play it later - must go to school now.

SotSR is Shadow of the Serpent Riders, the Heretic/heXen series, if you ever heard of them. Started after DooM as a mid-clone Heretic, than a different game named heXen on DooM 2 engine, heXen II on Quake engine, and 3-person Heretic II on some engine I don't know, Quake II, maybe.
