  1. I have backed this game on KS, but as is with all the other games I backed, I want to wait until a final version is out before I play them. The only exception to this was War For The Overworld, a Dungeon Keeper... well, clone, for lack of a better word (yes, I do know that we have a thread here dedicated to whether TDM is a clone of Thief). Even now, with its unpolished and nowhere near final state, the game is immense fun.

Regarding Sir, I do hope that the visibility meter will be improved. Right now, judging from the videos, you can't really say when you are being spotted, apart from to robots commenting and shooting at you.

  2. I have no idea. I am no programmer, and I just supplied Tels with translations and some insight, because, frankly, I have no idea how the i18n system works.

Unfortunately, Tels so far has not replied to my email. I do hope that he will, eventually, but if he doesn't then I can only ask people how have downloaded those translated missions before they went offline to post their local copies here.

  3. That proves it, we Germans have good taste!! :D

This goes in line with the fact that we have a massive influx of new clearly German forum members. I guess this is mostly due to the coverage of Gamestar. This is the biggest gaming site in Germany, after all. Also, Chip.de is a fairly frequented site, so those two heavyweights alone should generate a lot of traffic.

  4. BD, most of the DLCs are crap, but the game itself is actually good. However, in the spirit of true PC-ness, I'd suggest you play the game in Ranger Mode medium, as it will switch off those annoying popups like the throwing knife kill thing. I do NOT recommend to use Ranger Mode Hardcore, as that will switch off all on-screen displays, like ammo count and whatnot.

The game itself allows the player to use a lot of non-lethal stealth (think: k.o.), although in some places you have n other choice but to kill. Still, this is a big improvement to Metro 2033, where stealth was more of an afterthought. Oh, and you cannot drag bodies, which is a crying shame.

  5. Actually an xp system in a stealth game is not bad per se, just getting xp for kills is. Deus Ex had an xp system, where you got experience for finding secret areas for example, or if you proceeded in a special not so easy or obvious way.

Do you have any information if they scrapped the *entire* XP system, or maybe just the "congratulations, another headshot" system?

  6. The 1:27 jump is mainly timing - get as far back as you can (which isn't much), stand up, start running and then almost immediately jump (I'm guessing it's something like 1/10th of a second between starting to run and making the jump. You've got hardly any run-up). If you get the light gem lined up as it is at 1:30 in the video, you should be pointing in the right direction. Hope this helps.

Thanks, man. I'll be sure to try that out.

Moonbo, your FM so far has been terrific. I just listened to the song in the church, and it was a beautiful experience. I wish more mappers would use such ideas.

  7. @Tr00pertj: I've put a video up showing how I get from behind the guard station to loads of places without touching ground level (except for when I bork the jump). If you can't be bothered to watch the whole thing, skip to 9:00 where I get to the place I shouldn't be :) : -

At 1:16, when I first jumped I became stuck in the geometry when I landed. I had to noclip out of it to progress.

At 1:27, I do not have the foggiest idea how you made this jump. I tried that by running and then jumping, but I always fell down at half-way. What did I do wrong?

  8. SeriousToni, my guess is that it will then emulate 3D sound. While emulation is nowhere near as good as a real 5.1 setup (I had the Speed-Link Medusa 5.1 headset for many years), it still serves the purpose.

lost_soul, using your method I managed to increase s_numberofspeakers to 5 (instead of the default 2). It's also correctly written to the Darkmod.cfg file. However, on every game restart the value seems to be set back to 2. Is there a way to fix this? maybe via the autoexec.cfg file?

  9. I'm not finished with TWD,

I had to stop at the scene where I am with Kenny and he's just not capable of shooting the little boy who hungered to death and came back. I have a kid that age, and while Duck's death was a tremendous blow, somehow that little boy up there just got to me.

That being said, I watched a complete and uncommented Let's Play of "The Last of Us" on YT (I don't own a PS3). This is definitely one of the most intense experiences of my gaming life, and it left me thinking even days after.

  10. Also DX AI patrol route design sucks ass. An average AI has 4 patrol points which they circle through like on rails. Boring and too predictable. AIs also never move from theit area to another, so if you kill everyone in one room, nobody ever discovers the bodies...

Now imagine the outcry of the console players if the patrol routes would have been made as "hard" as in TDM. "Random AI sucks ass!" "It's too hard!" "Can't deal with it!" "Make the game easier!"

I imagine that's always the trouble when you are developing for a large audience vs. a small crowd of dedicated fans.

  11. They just go with 15 minutes rule: if it does not catch quick, player will throw it away and go watch tv. Most of players don't finish games anyway, so whole steam in whistle!

That's what bothers me the most in current gaming: That people are actually not finishing their games, for one reason or the other. Games react to that, of course, so we have to endure this focus-group tested tripe that's called AAA now. Just look at Deus Ex: HR: Only 38.8 percent of the players have reached the achievement "The End", which means that just two thirds have actually finished the game. I don't have the exact numbers (too lazy to Google), but the same was with Dead Space, which is why the follow-up games were dumbed down so much. By the way, other games fare even worse.

The full game can be purchased and installed in Steam with the early access option. Though they clearly state that is in active development.

I do, however, recommend to watch some Let's Plays of the game. It is a very unique kind of game. I certainly have it on my radar, but I will definitely wait for the final version to decide if it's really my kind of game.
