  1. I reactivated an old system, it has an activated Win10Pro with the most recent patches installed and an old installation of TDM, release 2.03.

     

    I tried to run tdm_update.exe both as user and admin, but it seems to cycle through updating the same file over and over. I always get to the point depicted in the attachment.

     

    This is not so much a call for support, I have a working 2.05 installation I could copy over, it is more meant as a bug report.

  2. Lastly, I'll restate that in-game AA for Doom 3 \ TDM is inefficient so I'd strongly recommend turning off AA

    and using forced driver AA settings instead.

    That seems to make the biggest difference, thanks!

     

    I can't tell, how much of an FPS rise it really is, since regardless of my vsync or r_displayRefresh settings, I can only see 60 max. Which is fine, since it seems to be a solid 60 at the moment, with 8x AIF and 8x FSAA set in the driver.

     

    And also thanks to Bikerdude, I contemplated zipping the file, but never thought about the spoiler feature :)

    The autoexec.cfg didn't do anything, though I checked that it did load.

     

    Changing the interleave from 1 to 2 did improve from 20 to 25 FPS.

     

    What kind of FPS should I expect? I found a nice low FPS spot, when you exit the building and go the stairs all the way up, you can climb an pipe to the right and then peek into a building:

    BTW, video RAM usage shoots up to 3GB with those settings.

    Do you think, i have a general Problem? Right when non-Garret leaves the building and heads up the stairs, FPS will drop down to ~19.

    If I go from 16x AA/AIF to 8x, this will give ~40 and at 4x all is peachy - solid 60, which is my monitor max.

  5. Since the 4GB 1050TI is only €20 more, I recently ordered an Zotac 1050TI for €153.

     

    DOOM 2016 @ 1920x1200 and ultra setting uses 2.8GB, 3dmark Fire Strike Ultra 3.3GB. TDM COO-BCD set to highest (which lags noticably) uses 1.8GB.

     

    So I reckon, the 4GB version was an good investment...

     

    Which brings my system spec to:

     

    Win7x64

    Xeon E3-1245 4x3.3/3.7 GHz + HT

    24GB DDR3 RAM

    Zotac GTX 1050 TI mini 4GB

    Nvidia 376.33 drivers

     

    The card has no external power connector, which is perfect, since this Fujitsu workstation does not offer them anyway.

    I secured AC 1 and Chronicles to my main Uplay account - I've forgot, which email I did register the first AC game with ;)

    Also got my Spendierhosen on, (does this translate?), and spend more, then one $...

    Downloading China now and looking forward to a break from World of Tanks for the weekend :)

  7. Speaking of TV monitors and 1360x768 resolution, I never managed to get anything but AMD cards to actually use those natively. I was always stuck with 1280x720 and upscale, or 1920x1080 and downscale with my Toshiba TV. Which is the choice of hanging or shooting, if you want to use the system for anything more than video watching.

     

    Did that change with recent Nvidia drivers, or is it an oddity of my TV?

  8. I agree, for free, you can't complain much.

     

    I loved the early Splinter Cell games, nice to replay the first one without scouting for the DVD ;)

     

    With the Crew, I have mixed feelings. Would be nice, to support more wheel hardware, would be nice, to be able to replay it. Those buy "Wild run", buy "Calling all units" nags are a definite put off.

     

    FC3 Blood dragon, guess you either like or hate it :)

     

    AC III is something, I already have and like - too bad claiming the free copy destroyed my savegames...

     

    Can't tell anything about the others.

  9. The 1050Ti looks very interesting indeed. So interesting, that I started contemplating replacing the Quadro 2000 in the other workstation with it ;) Only worry would be the 75W, which is stretching the specification to the limit... (GTX750Ti is 60W)

     

    Speaking of SSDs, I changed over to them a couple of years ago for the system drives and the only drawback I can see is the price. Most astonishing is, that they not only are much more responsive than an mechanical disk, they also stay that way over time.

  10. The questions are, while the GTX1060 is one of the best offers for 300, do you

    a ) need it?

    b ) have the means to use it?

    How much of an improvement do you need? Two times, five times, ten times? Does your PSU offer the aforementioned additional power connectors?

    When I converted my Fujitsu workstation to a playstation, I was confronted with an proprietary PSU, offering no additional power connectors whatsoever. I put in an Zotac GTX 750TI, which doesn't need any external power connectors and is relatively quiet. The Dark Mod runs smoothly, as do most current 3d titles, as long as I don't turn the eye candy to maximum.

    Card was €115 and I'm happy with it.

  11. And mostly likely you will only find the hybrid driver from the laptop manufacturer, what's the make/model of your laptop..?

    It's called Terra Mobile 1590 Gaming. Reportedly based on some international MSI model.

     

    The originally installed drivers with the 1511 edition on it seemed to be MS/intel/Nvidia, so I did an clean install with the 1607 edition and waited for Windows update to come up with the drivers.

     

    Strangely enough, I can't see a performance hit with TDM when letting it choose the internal HD4600 instead of forcing it to use the GTX970M. Perhaps I should try something more demanding then Closemouthed Shadows ;)

     

    Any suggestions for a mission, that is taxing the vidcard?

    Changed the folder to be fully accessible by all users.

     

    Opened system properties and changed visual effects to best performance.

     

    Then I got lost, I have a compatibility tab with the desired setting under Win7, but not under Win10...

     

    [edit] Found it and changed it ...

     

    Created an autoexec.cfg file int the darkmod folder, containing

    Starting TDM with those settings now results into OK menues but utterly distorted graphics into the mission. I guess I'll fiddle around with those settings a bit.

    Which didn't yield the desired effect. The resolution lines got replaced with

    for whatever reason.

     

    Changing them back to my native resolution and changing seta r_aspectRatio "1" to seta r_aspectRatio "4" did nothing, as did adding seta r_fovRatio "16:9"

     

    Added a screenshot, which shows the problem...

     

    I would also like to add, that the graphics indicator in blue means the GTX vidcard is not used. Forcing TDM to use the GTX changes nothing but the colour of the indicator, going orange :(

  14. I recently purchased a used gaming laptop, model Terra 1590, reportedly something of a MSI Ghost derivative. Has a dedicated GTX970M video card, the monitor has full HD resolution. OS is Win10 Pro anniversary edition with the latest Nvidia drivers.

    Trouble is, I can't get it to use the native resolution. I can run it at 640x480, everything beyond that results in a distorted display, where I can only see the top left part of the "screen".

    Several searches came up blank, any suggestions?
