  1. Heh - it just made me think - imagine if there were a ssteel arrow that when you shot into a wall - stayed there and you could jump on it - like you could make an impromptu ladder up a stone wall with them x-D

I think Witchaven or some other similar old fantasy action game had that. :)

TDS claimed to have that feature, where AI would notice if other guards were missing, but I can't recall ever noticing it. Did anyone else? Or am I misremembering?

They did, They greeted each other when passing, and would notice if the other guard didn't come around, in which case they entered alert mode and checked a few nearby areas.

  2. Hi!

Can the walking speed of the guards be adjusted? I mean not globally, but for individual guards, in the editor. I'm not interested in editing (yet), I'm just curious if it can be done, because atm it seems every guard just marches up and down like they're on a parade or something. :) It would spice things up if some of them just casually strolled around

  3. Allright, threw together a small crosshair mod, just using a variation of the base Doom3 one. If any one wants to try it, it's here:

    http://www.mediafire.com/?9xacfa8f1db5s7w

    feature:

    - a small semi-transparent crosshair

    - appears on the screen when the player has a weapon in hand - disappears when the weapon is holstered

    installataion:

    - place the X_crosshair_mod_dll.pk4 and the X_crosshair_mod2.pk4 files to the .../doom 3/darkmod/ folder

Weapon in hand - crosshair on

    Weapon holstered - crosshair off

(that graphical corruption only apperared on the screenshot, the game was fine)

  4. The code for the crosshairs etc etc etc

I followed up on this (thanks for the post) and managed to enable the cursor by creating my own gamex86.dll.

I was thinking about changing the cursor graphics, but I can't. I made a .pk4 file mirroring the original folder structure but with my own crosshair images, but the game just doesn't see it. I was trying it with the base game too and didn't work. I tried an existing crosshair mod, but that didn't work either (instructions for that said just put the pk4 in the /base folder, but to no avail). How to make the game read custom .pk4 files? I have the Steam version does that have anything to do with this?

  5. However, even if you added one it would be relatively useless. Frobbing does not necessarily target the exact center of the screen...it targets a larger area than a crosshair. Usually when frobbing is difficult it is because of other frobbable objects (like chests) that are intercepting the frob. A crosshair would not help in this situation. Nor would it particularly help with blackjacking or sword fighting, as those model a swinging arc and do not necessarily connect with the AI directly in the center of your screen.

Hmm, I see. That's certainly a valid argument on why it's not needed. Let's say you convinced me. :) I'll have a comment on the bow aiming though (a bit later when I can make screenshots).

  6. Is there any good reason not to have it as an option (disabled by default)?

I agree with your basic idea, but I'd rather be able to toggle it with a key (disabled by default, of course) within the game, because even I wouldn't want it to be on the screen all the time. As for the design, what Sotha said - a subtle transcluent one would be the best.

  7. I think you might of downloaded the wrong mod

I knew some elitist will jump in to make a comment like that conveniently forgetting that a multitude of actions in this game requires precision aiming, including the very unforgiving way it handles blackjacking and backstabbing. In my book, having to aim by approximating the (almost exact) center of the screen is bad design.

Now I wouldn't ask for the outright addition of a crosshair - I was thinking about having the ability to bind it to a key, so it can be turned on if someone needs it.

  8. Hi!

Just noticed a weird thing. I've been playing the No Honor Among Thieves fan mission, the first two missions so far, and in both of them, bodies of knocked out guards would change position after a while (after I moved away from the body and returned later). Say, I knocked out a guard and stuffed the body to the side of a corridor near the wall, when I returned after some time from another part of the level, the body was in the middle of the corridor. This has happened a few times, mostly with bodies placed near walls. I'm not sure if it's just this mission, or a general problem though (this is a the first FM I played recently).
