  1. I started to download the demo, but then watched a couple videos and realized I probably wouldn't like this game. Is this the same game where there's a demo video going around that has the main character taking on a big cyclopse creature? If not, what is that game called? I am interested in that game. Part of me thinks that game might be Messiah, but I don't think it is. I haven't had a chance to research yet.

  2. I hate to say it, but I kinda agree w/ what Sparhawk was trying to say in that thread. I don't agree with all the arguing that took place, though.

Set the semantics of the term warez aside. From an objective standpoint, I think the main point is that it doesn't seem fair for Komag to be banned virtually immediately upon one mess-up, while MysteryDev & Digi can distribute two, maybe three arguably copyrighted things without incident:

    1. The complete Thief: Deadly Shadows soundtrack.

    2. The T2G work-in-progress levels.

    3. The 3DS files.

Don't their posts walk all over the TTLG forum rules?

No Warez, Illegal Software or Scans of Copyrighted Material.

This includes linking to, posting about, requesting, and suggesting ways of obtaining illegal software and/or other copyrighted materials such as scans of magazine articles. Posting such information may also result in your posting privileges being revoked. Furthermore, we will not tolerate postings that encourage people to violate copy protection by referring them to sites that have copy protection codes publicized (including No-CD Cracks) and/or illegal software. Any such post will be removed from our forums and your membership and posting privileges will be revoked as soon as we find the offensive post.

I have no personal vendetta against TTLG at all. I actually like the site a lot. I just don't like to see it when admin powers get abused; that's all. I like consistency and predictability when it comes to rules. If they are going to heavy-handedly enforce one rule, I wish for them to enforce them all in a similar manner. Including the rule I mentioned earlier where: "you will not ... post ... abusive, hateful, harassing ... threatening. Hate speech is not tolerated. We will not tolerate abuse upon another member." It would probably be a kinder place there if they stuck by their own rules. As it is now, you can go to a lot of threads and see the harrassment and abuse that goes on.

Okay, objectivity and hippy, peace-loving thoughts aside: MysteryDev and DigitalNightfall are awesome for keeping Thief alive! :D

  3. Sorry to read that. Yeah, that sucks.

    a. Who remembers every aspect of a legal disclaimer way after they've signed-up to a forum? I don't remember any one point regarding the ttlg.com forum's disclaimer (except for the one you pointed out in your explanation.

    b. A warning would've been nice -- probably a moral imperative, actually -- especially if you've been a respected member of the Thief community for a while. I don't know you, so I don't know how respected you are; what you've done; or how you normally act there :) I think I heard you maybe made a fan mission or something, so that's at least a start :)

I just think it's wrong to ban someone for something seemingly so trivial, considering all the other put-downs and stuff I see going on at ttlg.

PS: I noticed this part about the disclaimer, which I see broken practically every time I visit that forum. Why 75% of the users there aren't banned by now is beyond me:

    No Abusive Behaviour.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this Forum to post any material which is knowingly false and/or defamatory, abusive, hateful, harassing, obscene, sexually explicit, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise violative of any law. Hate speech is not tolerated. We will not tolerate abuse upon another member.

  4. I also really dug Dante's voice and attitude; he's the most (really only) credible successor to Garrett I've ever come across, IMO.

Ditto. Nothing else has even come close to replacing Garrett's voice. People either try too hard to mimic Garrett and fail, or have their own voice that I don't like as it often sounds unprofessional. When I hear Dante, I feel he has a voice-acting career ahead of him if he so desires.

  5. I would like to see the thread so get the context and to look at past Komag posts. What is the URL of the thread in question?

Biohazard says Komag is just in timeout for a short while here (in the last post): http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=107693

EDIT: Still can't find the thread where Komag messed up. Maybe they deleted that thread entirely? Oh well. If there were ttlg threads where a flame-war or something similar ensued, please feel free to post link here. I'm curious about the warning Komag received, etc. A moderator says he was warned and didn't obey, so maybe that was done in Personal Messages rather than in the TTLG forums.

  6. We all just need to know when to let it go. We can't win every argument. Well, we could, but we'd look like jerks while trying to do so. For team's sake, let go of some stubborness. (Note: I'm intending this for us all; I'm not picking on any one person. Dram. Hehehe, just kidding, Dram.) Basically, we could all use a little self humility (or whatever I'm trying to say).)

  7. or typing af_print and seeing this;

    CODEaf_print

    position: 52 33 46

    orientation: 3 4 5

    Which would you preffer?

I'm no programmer, and I have no idea what you're talking about :), but af_print sure seems a lot easier to read to me!

PS: They pushed each other's buttons. LOL

    :D

  8. Schatten wrote: if ZylonBane mentions something like how the frob highlight fades in and out in the Thief games for example, we don't just ignore it. We care as much about these details as anyone else, we're fanboys too, after all.

Not to stir controversy, or anything... ;) but if I didn't happen to mention fading frobs in our internal forums and support / re-iterate the beauty of them, it might've been ignored. And Zylon & I would be left without our beautiful, fading frobs forever (or at least until release). The majority of the programmers who could actually code the fades were initially pretty against it and would've liked to see the idea die a certain death.

  9. Very cool. Are any of these big enough to allow the player model to fit inside and crawl up a chute? If not, maybe some even bigger ones can be worked on to serve that 'secret passageway' purpose :) It looks like deeper fireplaces would be needed for that than what was shown here. (I haven't CVS'd the PK4 yet, but do look forward to trying.)

EDIT: Not sure if this looks interesting or not. To me it does, but I'm biased, since this was a fireplace in the old house I grew up in. Feel free to make or be inspired by it. There's a removable black cast iron mesh grill that fits in the arc to prevent sparks from flying out. If I remember correctly, there were L-shaped iron brackets bolted into the bricks underneath the platform and into the wall to provide support to the platform from underneath.
