  1. @7upMan: Ja, die Formate kann ich alle öffnen. Also schicke dann die PSD.

  2. I guess it´s the

    ChrisHand Font.

But Melan should know. I meant Randalls confession what was really unreadable for me. And this really breaked my immersion, sorry. And there were complaints about the font in your Mission-thread, Melan. (before I wrote it)

I really like to have different fonts (I think Thief had two), and Fidcals explanations are ok, but where is the point making the whole text unreadable? Is it actually not possible to set only words in a different font?

Please mappers, be aware that there are a lot of non-enghlish Players here.

BTW, I often would love to translate things, but Doom3 doesn´t allow me to ALT-tab to a translation software and my textbook here is like crap, I never find the words in there I´m looking for. I know, I could run in window-mode, but that breaks my immersion too much, I hate this blue windows caption-bar.

edit: I see Melan just posted the fonts. OK, I respect you all as Artists (especially you, Melan, cause your map really is sort of Art!) and talking lately with 7upMan I got aware of an Realtime-text-viewer. I would like to have that to read the texts out of the game.

So, where do I get the tool and how do I got the texts?

I just opened the mission.pk4, but unlike Thief there seems to be nothing to 'read' in there. (without the readme´s of course)

I already have DarkRadiant installed (need to update, though), I guess I will have to use it...

  3. Hehe, actually this seems to be a problem with the Baltona-mission. Just played Return to the City by Melan and I was able to create a gap between me and them. About the same time I was killed in Sons of Baltona I. Although, I could create a gap they finally killed me and tonight I really had trouble blackjacking. Forgot that you have to aim this high. And guards cornering me let me wish of some stealth-moves to quickly overwhelm a guard. It´s not very Thief-like but who says our hero isn´t capable of such moves?

And I encountered the possibly worst ever created font (beside symbolic ones) to read. Really, dear well respected TDM-Team, please substitute this handwriting-font! I beg you, please! The most I wasn´t able to read. I really like readables but with this font it´s only frustrating. Please, change it!

  4.

How the heck am I supposed to get into the tower? I saw the open window by the Gargoyle, but am not able to see a way in.

Also there was talk about a cleaning area there the carpenter used to work (and there I suppose the missing two gems), but don´t see anything that would fit to that.

I found the Loot List, but it didn´t help me at all to know where I could get up.

I found an area with a hanging cage up there. Is there something to do/get?

What about the vines you can climb? Does everyone lead somewhere? I could only make use of the one on the clock-tower to get to the attic.

I didn´t understand what guard you and Springheel talked about. Should the one inside near the tower be walking around?

A lantern would´ve been very helpful cause on some places it is really dark and because of this I couldn´t see the hole in the cage, read about it here.

It´s a very beautiful mission, I love all those details. But it really frustrates me that I´m stuck with 600 loot (100 missing on Hard) and that I´m not able to read most of the readables due to the horrible font. I really hope that the Team will substitute this font with a more readable. Really, please do that, please, I beg you!

  6. I think at some point we need a key for things like eg, GCC which had me scratching my head a few weeks back. No doubt there will be more acronyms to come.

Enlighten me. I know it is the Christmas Contest, but what for is the 'G'? Game Christmas Contest? Grand Christmas Contest? Glory Christmas Contest? Good Christmas Contest? Gerry Christmas Contest? ....

edit: Never mind, I found it. It was 'Grand Christmas Contest'.

  8. I use the following for successfully improving performance for a racing game (GTR2) and tried it for TDM/Doom3 but can´t see any improvement. But in average I have 60 FPS and I think I read somewhere that I can´t have more than 60 FPS on a 32bit-system.

Anyway, maybe this methods will increase performance on older/weaker systems many of you seem to use. As for GTR2 people talked about increasing performance in double. That much I didn´t get out of it.

    Here is what might help:

the 3GB-switch for Windows XP 32-bit-systems to let older games use more than 2 GB RAM. (if you have more available, that is) I don´t know what the case is on Doom3, though.

Than you have to patch the executable of the software you want to use more RAM with. (doom3.exe) It can be done with a file called 'imagecfg' reputed to be on some Windows-CD. Anyway, I used this tool. It automatically generates a backup of the executable. This could be helpful for 64bit-systems, too.

The second thing that maybe could help improve performance is to set the affinity on Multicore-systems. This is not really Mulitcore-support though. But it can help.

Again, 'imagecfg' is reputed to help here but again, I use a tool. In this case Prifinitty2.

So I hope it helps someone to get more out of TDM. I can´t make promises because I´m no expert at this. I just learned about it and want it to share with you. :)

  9. That alternate storyline would be nice, but maybe not (now as you´re still learning) worth the effort. Would make, for me, more sense to release it later as sort of a 'Director´s Cut', hehe. :)

A Re-Release I would like as the DarkMod itself evolves and more features are available. Otherwise no one will play this first missions again. Maybe for nostalgic reasons?

Ok, this night I have slept some hours and so I was able to finish this mission and hoo, it was really hard at the end, took several reloads because I wanted the purses so badly. But these damn torch-guards, one saw me, and hell broke lose. (they made trara) Gladly I don´t suffered from Frame-drops. Funny word this is. After I caught some stones in my eyes, that really hurted that I had to say 'Aua', while I hid behind the crates they gave up and I took the first purse. Than I got to the guard by the well there I took out the torches and that alarmed some guards that ran by. Don´t know where they came from. Maybe the guard by the torch send them an instant message. (we talked about the phones before!biggrin.gif) But as I sneaked very carefully by I managed to grab the purse. And then I got sloppy. Instead of taking the way back to the house (I didn´t killed Nelson yet, he was still in bed pretending to be sleeping) via the passage, I unlocked the house door and got in, directly before the feeds of the guard inside, may he saw a little of me. So I had four guards now hacking at me and I was dead before I could say 'crap'. On the second try I got stuck at this wagon by the well and as I wanted to open the console to type in 'noclip' I was sent back to desktop? No message, no hangup, nothing. So I had to start again. Well, to start the game. Of course I made a quicksave. Well, finally I got my purses. *sigh* smile.gif

For the overall loot I´m missing 30 pounds? I got all I read here in this thread. I have to say that I very likely hadn´t found the secret lever under Andersons desk if I hadn´t read about it here. Wonder what I missed. I found the bottles by the bar (and the ones in the kitchen) and the coins on the roof. Hmm.

You wanna know what I did else? I wanted to gave Eduardo a funeral but in the garden the guards surely would´ve spotted him so I thirst dumped him into the bathtub. With one leg upside. laugh.gif But than I thought about it and took him instead to the garden and throw him into the water. Then I got a Frame-drop. I guess it finished as he reached the ground in the water. Couldn´t saw it because it was too dark. Actually it is day here but I really wanted to finish the mission. But that´s it, no grave speech.

And on my way out I finally was able to frob the gate! But I couldn´t close it again.

BTW, maybe Eduardo wasn´t killed really, I guess he just died of starving. Because he didn´t touched the food in his roomy cage. Not even the apple. And what prisoners got apples? Nelson can´t be so bad. He just wanted to please and hold his wife. But I have a feeling that she likes Emily more. I hope to see some lesbian sex-animation in future TDM. biggrin.gif Just for aesthetic reasons of course!

After all the mission was big fun. I liked most evading the guards. But I think you overused the electric lights. Or is this because of the taste by madame Nelson? She likes artificial light, doesn´t she? No wonder Nelson can´t pay the bills(these secret Instant Messengers for the guards must be expensive, too). In the future I would like more torches in the house. In the kitchen and doorways maybe. Aaaand, I would like much more things to frob like chairs and alll, really all the little things that are around. This is such a great feature, but most FM´s don´t support it! A shame! I really would like to say some positive things more but nothing else important enough to mention comes to my mind. unsure.gif Well, without the missing hint for the secret hiding place, there was nothing what was negative. I managed to stay four hours in the mission. smile.gif Ah, I forgot to look at the watch that is between barracks and living room. As I came in it was, äh you say half past twelve right? In German it would be 'halb eins'. As I passed it near the end it said 'halb vier', äh half past three. And I don´t think that it took one hour for me to get the purses but than again, I spent some time to get in. Hmm, let´s just hope that the clocks are ticking right.

So, here you got your next lengthy post! :P But only if you open the spoiler, that is.

There is only one thing left to ask: Where did your backpacking trip led you?

  10. I don´t know if it worked before the update, but actually AI´s don´t have footstep-sounds for wood. Test it in Fidcals Test Trainer.

And I would like to know about the ability for guards to switch lights back on. (maybe, if they are already in the room they could wait five seconds before they do)

And I found out that guards are faster than the player! (before you might ask: I used the default settings for Player-speeds!) On Sons of Baltona Part I guards eventually kill me while running! That´s not good. The player should always be faster than guards (while running) because he wears not as much weight than them.

  11. The mages are in the lost city because they´re trying to get the talismans theirselves. You´ll find out about that in the Mages-mission later. Oh wait, the mages-mission is before, right? And how they get there, well, they surely have their ways and who says the entrance Garrett uses is the only one?

I loved every mission in Thief Gold but the Thieves´ Guild. There I got the feeling of an unfinished map, really. The two houses you got in were so cheap and the whole thing wasn´t build up quite good. It began strong, as someone said before, but as you got into the sewers it ended fast.

The Thief-games were the only ones that I started on highest difficulty and had no trouble to finish them. (without finding Randalls bracelet, for that I looked via DromEd :D, I didn´t had access to Internet these days) I started on Expert because I played the Bufford-demo before and there you didn´t had to leave after obtaining the scepter, so I thought it would be like this in every mission so better start on Expert. It wasn´t a shooter, so why not. It was worth it because of the additional objectives.

Only the mission 'Escape' I had struggles with because of the fighting needs. Though, I played the last two times with this increased difficulty for more awareness of AI´s so it gets really hard in this mission because of this.

Gladly, there are so much fanmade updates out there for both Thief´s that really will make it worth to replay again. Now I have just managed to activate Widescreen-support and with this I can set Thief on my TV to HD-mode, looks damn good. But still TDM has grip on me.

If only I could get the missions from Thief 1 to work in Thief 2 with better graphics. But I guess I would have to do more than just importing... :(

  12. But isn´t Brazil suffering because of capitalism in the rest of the world?

Oh well, I could start an argument about this, but I won´t because I don´t know of a better system the people would be able to live in and all my thoughts would be an easy way to find out who wants to flame me. ;)

I just don´t like the all-mighty of money and the suffer it causes... Looking around assures me that the big bang is on the way. Hmm, could be my change for gaining world-leadership that I dreamed about as a child, though. (it was a fever-dream where I destroyed the world and it looked like the screen of Tetris glowing and blowing up in a supernova (with lots of borders and rectangles), damn impressive it was, can still remember it... But I didn´t play Tetris a lot, I just had a version for my C64 that obviously had some impact on me, ashaming, isn´t it)

Hoo, this leads far out this topic, so I better add something to my original post about the topic: I forget to mention the game-series that brought me to the console! I´ll never be able to forgive myself for forgetting it because sometimes I loved it even more than Thief. I´m talking about the LEGACY OF KAIN Series with Soul Reaver, Blood Omen (love the first game for PSone) and finally the weak Defiance. (Another game was planned but shutdown by Eidos, who else)

These games were really hard to play comfortably on a Keyboard with Mouse and a Gamepad couldn´t provide Analog Movement (for SR1 at least) so I got me a cheap PS2 slim. With a setting SR1 looked on the PS2 like with 3D-acceleration on PC.

But there is on thing I don´t understand on consoles! They don´t seem to have Anti-aliasing! Metal Gear Solid 4 has it they say, but there are still a lot of stair-effects. (How do you call these things again?) They pretend to be *what is the opposite of 'inferior'?* but don´t provide FSAA! Don´t get it. At least because of this I could try the PC-versions but as I think about it, I read somewhere that most PC-games today are released with so many bugs that it really is worth it to wait for the cheap edition in one/two years, when enough patches are released. Speaking of it, Consoles are getting near it with their new ability for Downloading stuff: As I just recently bought 'Heavy Rain' and put it in my console, what was the first thing that appeared? 'The game needs an update to be downloaded, oh and by the way, your PS3-system too!' Alarming, that is!

  13. Creeping is too slow and should be for situations when you need to be calm. (my new settings slowed creeping down a lot, I guess it is now like the original creep-setting in the Thief-games) Walking with 40 I wanna use when I look around. I tested it last night with Sons of Baltona and it really felt damn good to me. I don´t like to rush through the missions, as it felt with the default speed. I use only this now when I need to be faster given the situation like sneaking up on a guard. And guards still hear me behind them with my lower speed.

As no one seems to be with me here I´m pretty sure I 'spoiled' (not really) my taste for this with my years of Analog-joystick-support in Thief where I got used to a slower speed for walking around.
