  1. Having played a first set of ~10 TDM missions so far, I really enjoy the gameplay a lot.

There are just a few things that do not seem to fit:

    - footsteps of the guards (especially on stone or marble) tend to sound like the guard-exchange in front of Buckingham Palace or some Sowjet soldiers doing a parade in presence of Stalin or maybe a board dropping down on the floor.

    - some guys (when hit with the blackjack) sometimes fly through the air like having been hit by a truck with 30 MPH. I think I have seen some even doing a somersault.

    - the voices of the guards: well, I would really prefer some stronger voices in general (some stupid, some with authority).

Most do sound like they just crawled out of bed still suffering from a heavy disease and lacking any power or aggression in their voices.

    Some really good points:

    - the lockpicking really requires your full concentration. Bad if you know that you have to hurry up. But hey, that's realistic !

    - the climbing capabilities are much better then in any other game in this 'Dark' genre.

But how can you mantle down a ladder if you can't jump on it ???

I thought 'C' should to the trick, but it seems to work only if you want to go UPWARDS.

    - nice object manipulation stuff (like lighting/dousing candles as needed)

  2. As a last resort you can enter tdm_show_loot 1 in the console which briefly highlights remaining loot for a few seconds.

    Thanks, Fidcal !

That helped a lot. 2 of the items I should have found myself earlier already.

Especially since I spend 1 hour knocking out everybody and lighting all candles and torches in that level

and running around with having my lantern lit as well. Very thiefy , I know.

But who was responsible for the

goblet under the bed (near the bar)

    ???

Even with all candles on in that room I could not spot it !

Anyway, this is a fine mission and the best I have played so far !

  3. Not sure if this was mentioned before,

but I think the 'swinging on a rope' feature needs some considerable rework.

In the training mission it took me about 30 attempts to make it to the other side of the river.

When doing so, the rope swings back and forth like the rope itself had a weight of 1000 kilos itself and the player has just a few ounces.

This makes it impossbile to figure out when the time is right to jump off to the other side.

In my opinion the rope should move forward fairly straight, because the player at the end of the rope adds the most weight.

With the physics as-is I really hope I don't run into any missions requiring this feature.

    Does that make sense ?

  4. Strangely enough;

This mission came up in an internal discussion yesterday, and I've since left LordSavage a PM/mail, hopefully he notices :)

That said, I went ahead and converted everything in-case he's too busy etc and cant do it himself, but I'll wait on a reply!

    Great !

Doesn't sound like a complicated job then.

Just make sure it gets recognized as '1st TDM FM ever' - if LordSavage is willing to accept the honour.

If I got it right he is now a member of the TDM-team, right ?

    Thanks !

  5. I understand. Although I think it's a shame that those other missions will eventually be lost and forgotten because they aren't compatible with Dark Mod 1.00.

    Some good news:

besides 'Tears of St. Lucia' having been ported a while back already,

Fidcal took care of converting 'Thiefs Den' to TDM just yesterday, too. Ready for download !

I wonder if someone could contact Lord Savage to do the same for 'Closemouthed Shadows' ?

  6. I think Fidcal should just re-release the demo for the interested people. Rerigging it as a mission for the current TDM version shouldn't be too hard, and since it is a piece of mod legacy, it plays a similar role in the community as Gathering at the Bar did for Thief.

(I could never play it in full myself; didn't work on my PC at that time, and had weird lighting bugs on my brother's - I sure didn't get far in it)

Yes, it would be good having the 'Thief's Den 1-4' being playable the same way - instead of installing a demo.

I can imagine a few things have changed since the demo got released, but if someone could take the burden to convert it, that would be really great !

Any idea what the people that converted 'The Tears of St. Lucia' into a regular mission think about it - or how much effort it took for them to do this ?
