      If it is indeed a model, you can solve that problem by making it no-shadow (through the texture material), and creating an inner, much simpler "shadow" model which will be used for shadow calculations.

      You can check the wiki for more info on all this, but it is basicly putting the noshadow arg in your material shader for the model's texture; and having a second simpler mesh inside the real one, textured with the noshadow texture.
