  1. I've never really been sure what to make of the scene with Viktoria at Soulforge. By that, I mean how much of Garrett's feeling toward Viktoria was real? She did some serious work on Garrett in the Maw.

Garrett was surprised by an "attack of opportunity" from Viktoria, which beguiled him with a Blood Oath enchantment...This enchantment was sealed with their combined blood component, and thus spellbinding Garrett's mind to Viktoria's purpose...The feelings expressed by Garrett during the Soulforge scene, were the result of one being bound by enchantment...as right before the binding enchantment occurred, Garrett was filled with vengeance, seeking to gladly kill her without a second thought.

I thought viktoria was basically the queen of all the nymphs, as she did take counsel from them (the other nymphs) and instruct them what the woodsie lord wanted doing in the dark project and seemed to be in charge of the other nymphs in the metal age.

Viktoria was a servant of The Trickster god, and an agent of the forces of Chaos...Although not a god, she was an extra-planar entity residing within The Maw (Plane of Chaos) - (Proven by her drawing strength from that Plane, as only extra-planar entities are capable of).

Yet, all of this is now irrelevant to the NuThief Universe...Because of EM's foolishness, they have chosen to reject rightful integration and congruity with the true THIEF Universe...leaving fragments of elements, that only constitute superficial relationships.

  2. I'm pretty sure we're going to see a lot more of these unfortunate inconsistencies.

    Haha. Scrambled, for sure. :D

Why don't you tell me how I'm wrong, without resorting to idiotic remarks with a vacant smile on your face...Of course you can't, because I'm right about what I say...You're so desperate for me to be wrong, that you're willing to look like a complete fool by agreeing with false statements, just as long as they assert something contrary to what I've said.

I will enjoy your indiscriminate simple-mindedness...as it does entertain me.

All these visuals are probably replacing clever Thief-y use of audio. It'd improve continuity within the Thiaf canon itself to have the waypoint markers, and alertness icons for AIs that the player can't even see, as part of Focus.

I would think that the lower-fidelity stealth system will need to rely heavily on the Flashing Shroud...As the Flashing Shroud will be the dominant feedback device for NuThief...I think the NuGem has just been tacked-on by the devs, in order to appease the fans...It's a removable, crude, light-only gem with 3 stages....In truth, a mockery of the true 16-stage Viability Gem.

  3. I do understand that everyone is different.

I don't find it necessarily immersion breaking as it happens so quickly and certainly those who have actually playtested stated they didn't notice it after a while... and that was the point I was making.

As usual, you are incorrect...with your ignorant, relativistic conclusions...Objectively and universally, bright flashes of light that are incongruent with a simulated environment, are intrinsically immersion-breaking for the human mind...If there is no immersion break, then you were never immersed to begin with, and only engaged in the game.

  4. Yeah, the flash is very brief .... like the blink of an eye. It appears to work well as a visual warning.

I imagine that after a short time of playing you stop "noticing" it so much (as was stated by playtesters) as pretty much anything habitual becomes second nature after a while, or rather a subconscious action

I know...The inescapable, red and white flashing lights are the perfect compliment for a THIEF game, because you're going to be in and out of the light, all the time...How else would the player know if they can be seen, or know if they get hurt, without a flash to the face?...Trust me, after a while you won't even notice all those bright flashes, once the game has had enough time to dumb-down and desensitize you...EM is happy with their choice!...and if you don't agree, then you are a Gloomsie!

Whether it's brief or not isn't the point. It's immersion breaking, and it's unnecessary, How much forethought is needed to realize that you should avoid flashing bright lights at a player in a game that's designed to be played in dark rooms?

Yes, a Flashing Shroud inhibits immersion without question...This is basic...Yet for EM, deep immersive play isn't the priority...it is to serve the inadequacy of the casual couch player...playing with the lights on.

  5. I used the word 'these'; which obviously only refers to those people who would consider themselves to be glum about everything. As far as I can tell, there are not many of them.

From an absolute level, no one is glum about everything...yet, the vast majority of fans are clearly disappointed by most of the poor decisions that EM has made...The cosmology, lore, and simulative gameplay have all been objectively compromised, due to the contextual gameplay restrictions and a lower-fidelity stealth system...Of course, an incompetent such as you, isn't able to correctly extrapolate the meaningful outcome of all of this unfortunate information...so you blunder around like a fool in the dark, and mistakenly think: * I am unable to correctly extrapolate = everyone is unable to correctly extrapolate *

Whether you are genuinely upset by the game's content or think that joking is a form of personal attack, learning to understand why you might be overreacting and overlooking the genuine humor and/or good things about the game is a useful beginning to loosening up a little.

Again, you attempt to mischaracterize, by suggesting that my observations are skewed by some negative emotional basis, which makes me unable to see the "good things about the game"...nothing could be further from the truth...The overall production values for NuThief will be greater than any of the classic games, as well as some of the technical artistry...Although, these things hold little weight when compared to the mega-list of negatives...and so the net result is unfortunately very negative, when all things are weighed and qualified as a THIEF game.

I notice that you have a difficult time comprehending what other people say, so I will quote this again...in hope, that it will penetrate the thick bubble that encapsulates you...

Again, you fail to understand the situation...Unlike you, most of the community has standards...and upholding these standards serves to benefit the integrity and future expansion of the community...Any expressions, whether they are positive or negative, are solely based on the consequences of the information itself...and are not reflective of a personal state of being.

So from now on, if you choose to mischaracterize the astute and adept members of this community, we'll all know that you're doing it maliciously.

  6. People who are glum are unfortunately sick from The Gloom.

Yeah, from all of that gloom generated by EM...It's enough to make any community rebuke the irresponsible ill-conceivers, due to the foul stench.

For me, these people are now affectionately known as 'Gloomsies'.

So most in the THIEF community are "Gloomsies", simply because they recognize the unfortunate reality that is NuThief...As if somehow EM isn't responsible for their poor decision-making, and everyone should just smile while the franchise is being twisted and defiled right before them.

I think now you will be affectionately known as "Idiotsies".

  7. Too much fretting and nail-biting going on. Shake off those imaginary chains....set yourself free....loosen up... open your mind.

I am freer than you'll ever know or comprehend...Ironically, you're a prisoner of your own inability to accept the reality that surrounds you.

In the end, you'll wonder what on earth you were worried about. Life is too short to be angry.

Don't worry.... be happy... and start smiling... or "cheshire cat grinning", as I prefer. :D

Again, you fail to understand the situation...Unlike you, most of the community has standards...and upholding these standards serves to benefit the integrity and future expansion of the community...Any expressions, whether they are positive or negative, are solely based on the consequences of the information itself...and are not reflective of a personal state of being.

  8. there is a booster pack for those who want to finish the game faster, which seems to be a odd statement for a game which most thief fans try to play as long as possible.

Unfortunately, they're not making this game for THIEF fans.

Booster Pack – Get access to an exclusive bundle of optional in-game consumables that can empower you and hasten your progression through Thief.

Unbelievably, which includes giving the player "gold"...It looks like the Booster Pack is a beacon for children and idiots, willing to pay extra money for the opportunity to evade their own ineptitude.

This statement alone reveals EM's contempt for THIEF's core design philosophy...The player is never supposed to be "empowered", but vulnerable...and hurrying through the game, should never be encouraged or rewarded....

  9. Predator Mode, Ranged Choking, No Swimming, Guards on Fire...we're on a roll.

The mods seem to have some kind of compulsion to defend the game at every opportunity, even when they're not even addressing what was said ("hope they didn't abandon swimming" becomes "you can still do things with water, like flip switches to make it disappear").

Yes...This is a constant over on the Eidos forums. Any obvious game-based negative becomes an unrelenting mission to spin it into a positive, whenever possible...Combine this with reality twisting statements, such as..."it's only a few people who are saying bad things about NuThief"...and..."people are just being negative"...which is of course insulting and laughable, to all of the well-informed and perceptive community members.

"Moderator Mode" takes less than 1% of a person's time...

...and for you, the other 99% is "Shill Mode".

Lady...You should come to terms with your inner shill, and reveal your dishonesty for all to see...Only then will you ever have a chance to regain any credibility and respect, in this fine community.

...and please accept my deepest condolences, for your tremendous loss at TTLG.

  10. So that seems to indicates they might be dumping those too. If they weren't, it would be kind of a "screw you" to the fans to joke about it, as they're pretty much universally hated.

And that would surprise you?...They've been giving us the finger for the past four years.

  11. There's a lot of scary things in there, like:

Within the framework of Thief, do you think it’s better to let players benefit from a full freedom of exploration that includes mistakes and frustrating moments, or is it more effective to include slight nudges in the right direction for a safer but slightly restrictive experience?

SR: On one side, you have the kind of player who demands to jump or go anywhere and die if he or she chooses. Others get bored if they keep dying and don’t mind that kind of stuff being blocked off. What we’re trying to do here is impart subtle messages that certain jumps will kill you—if you still tell Garrett to jump, he’ll instead crouch near the edge and look down.

    ... :(
