  1. One step forward, two steps back. The last set, about 3 weeks ago, had clipping, and wasn't worth posting here. I'm waiting on more retakes.

Where exactly is the UK studio? It might be more convenient for her to record them there.

  2. This doesn't matter to me, since I'm accustomed to the telekinetic handling of lifting objects, opening doors, and picking locks without visible hands out in front of me doing it, but Morrowind handled lockpicking with a visible arm. When you equipped a lockpick, you'd see your arm holding it out in front of you, and if you were close enough to a door to use it, your arm would just sort of sweep forward in a vague gesture at the door and play either the success or failure lockpick sound. Very abstract. Not much different than the telekinetic approach.

  3. I'll let her know. As for a conversion to OGG, BeSweet can do that. It might also have the option to normalise the volume.

I checked and found that the latest version of WinFF supports batch conversion of MP3 to OGG, and it's much more user-friendly than BeSweet. Also, I confirmed that you can amplify the audio with it at the same time. Just add "-vol 5000" under the "Options>Additional Command Line Parameters" tab. (5000 may still be a little too quiet. Try maybe up to 6000?)

    Anyway, here's WinFF: http://www.winpenpack.com/main/download.php?view.1093

  4. Here we are with a first batch. She apologises for the delay, and promises another batch shortly.

Unexpectedly, she actually broke the vocals up into separate files based on the samples I sent her. Unfortunately, I notice the lines are very quiet and need amplifying. Do you have a batch utility to do that?

Here's the file as they are:

  5. I am highly in favour of droppable keys. I don't think we need handholding in cases of accidental or thoughtless dropping of keys that are needed later.

I'd also like the possibility to drop weapons. I never use the sword, and prefer to remove it from my inventory whenever an FM allows it (sometimes it's allowed to drop in the buyout menu, other times the drop button just doesn't work), or for missions where you have to pick up your equipment as you go, I never pick up the sword. If I end up in a situation that requires swordfighting, I've done something wrong and need to reload, according to my play style.

  6. @aidakeeley: Things seem to be making progress to me.

@Springheel: Okay, that is useful. I can offer all of those roles to prospective actresses, unless there's any reason not to have the sound sets available for use before the models are ready. If nothing else, finding a voice you like may drive which model(s) to give higher priority.

You don't even necessarily need to make up new audition lines. Just put an asterisk next to lines you really want to hear in the noblewoman script, and I'll make up some character-based variations myself based on the sound sets for the existing characters.

  7. @Orbweaver: I was talking about your "I have to agree with others" comment, but never mind.

@Springheel: I know you said only the noblewoman is ready, but this all started because you said there was a different female model that you would only start rigging if voices were available. What I'm asking is: what characters/models currently exist and are not available to use yet for these reasons? I've seen the mute noblewoman in the Heart of Lone Salvation, as well as the sleeping pagan woman, and the zombie(?) woman in the same FM, so that's 3.

Anyway, if you're providing some lines, then I'll wait before asking her to record again.

  8. Does she really have a native British accent? To me it sounds almost like she's Swedish or German or something, putting on a British accent for the recording.

Perhaps if you have her record some lines just in her native accent, it would be easier to suggest what role she would be suited for. I have to agree with others that this particular voice doesn't work very well for the noblewoman.

Judging from the responses from others, I think you may have misinterpreted what they said, or mistook which actress they were talking about, but at any rate I'll ask her to perform some lines in her native (still-British) accent.

If we can settle on an actress, I'll create a specific townswoman script

I suggest a brief audition script for us (whoever else is working on getting voice actresses) to use ahead of time, containing a few lines you consider most important to make a determination. Among the actors I've worked with it's standard practise to provide audition lines for the different characters that are available, and the actors can try out for various roles. I still don't even know how many roles are available, unless the two you've mentioned are the only ones, noble and townswoman/barmaid. I could probably recruit a wider range of prospects with that.

  9. the last contributor's voice is also pretty good (minus the mic static), so we may have the beginnings of something. :)

I can get her to the recording studio to record on non-hissy equipment as long as people find it worth the trouble. The only script I have is "noblewoman", which is why her lines were read from that even though I didn't intend to present her as that particular role. But I can just have her perform more or less the same lines as the male counterparts for the non-noble characters (again, assuming it's not just a waste of our time).

  10. No, I offered to unpack some of the existing sets for her to use as reference, but she did these without reference. I'll have her do some more after everyone's had their say about the current ones.
