Until that time, however, guis, maps and loading screens must still be modified by hand.
Now, in a lot of mission, i have to modify only two/three strings of guis and sometimes if there are images, they will modified with photoshop etc. Where is the problem?
Are you worried i can't change correctly two strings or that i can't use photoshop? Tell me.
-
Translating briefing guis is automatic? That's news to me. It certainly wasn't for Tears of St. Lucia...maybe I've missed some major update since May?
This FOR THE MOMENT (because it will become automatic in the future), is the only thing not automatic and this is MY task. ONLY MY TASK, not a translators problem. And (we are talking average about of 2 strings) i check this process at least 3/4 times. It is enough, or i have to check one thousand of times?
-
Only idiots make mistakes? That's news to me.
All it takes if for someone translating a briefing not to pay attention to the size of the windowdef so text goes off the screen, or they mess up the timing, or mix up the order of the text.
You are talking like i take your texts, put them into google translate, then in the package e finally upload it, without check nothing.
Yeah, I don't know anything about .guis, or briefings, or how easy they are to mess up.
Yes, i repeat if you had not realized, you don't known know nothing about how the multilanguage system works, otherwise you never said this:
mix up the order of the text.because it is all automatic.

Issue #2 is a big concern for me, however. Because if the translator breaks something in my .map file, then EVERYONE plays the broken version, including English speakers, who will assume the error is my fault. All it takes if for someone translating a briefing not to pay attention to the size of the windowdef so text goes off the screen, or they mess up the timing, or mix up the order of the text. Then people play the mission and think, "Oh, that's sloppy," without having any idea that it's the translator who broke it.
It's easy to argue, "Oh, mappers shouldn't feel this way", but obviously some of them do.
If translated versions do not overwrite the originals, then this problem completely goes away, however.
Seems like i'm and the translators are idiots.
In your opinion, I that create multilingual packages i'm such an idiot not to check at all? knymed has spent at least 4 hours for TESTING the translations with a score to settle. FOUR hours.
I'm thinking to ask knymed to delete the package from his pc.
WHAT are you saying? o_Omix up the order of the textyou are talking about something that you not know at all ....
-----------------
Ah, and probably i will delete the package of "the phrase book", so the translation quality problem does not arise.
-
Tels, maybe you don't see it, but i wrote that the packages i'm creating are completely standalone, this means that they work perfectly with the original version of the mission, which is not touched at all.
In this way, i don't have to worry about "my mission have to remain intact" problem.
-
added living expensives. now is in english, italian, french and german.
-
added swing and winter harvest.
-
Nothing to see here - my translations go back to 1.0, and there was no proper support back then, I have to go back and modify them to make use of the new possibilities
Same for me: I sent Tels my three translations, which he did incorporate into the FMs he adapted himself to the new system. That was "Living Expenses", "Too Late" and "Crown of Penitence".
Definitely!
Translated to Portuguese:
FM - Thief's Den (I)
But all translations were done before I knew anything about FMs' format, and directly over the text (or graphics) files inside them, without renaming anything (they were saved as separate files). I would have to copy and paste all the strings to the external i18n thing again.
PS: There was some confusion at the time with different translation versions that were interchanged and the 1.07 GUI menus ended up having a couple of imprecisions that I need to go over as well.
If i send you french.lang, portuguese.lang etc of your translated missions, can you copy/past the strings in this files and resend me?

rpgista, for the tutorial missions, wait a while. it's a hard work. :/

An important message for the translators:
write below all your dm translations works and in wich language you have done them.

two new works:
Here's "the phrase book" external file: http://www.mediafire...j6fdjlszh9l7tgs
pandora's box external file with italian translation: http://www.mediafire...bphki9nhehe0x8f
language supported: italian, german, french, czech, polish, portuguese, russian adn spanish.
Coming soon: a score to settle.
REMEMBER THAT README AND NOTE FILES ARE NOT STILL SUPPORTED FROM MULTILANGUAGE SYSTEM. THEY WILL REMAIN IN ENGLISH: http://bugs.angua.at...=3012&history=1

Here this the external package of Mad's Mountain, with italian translation (my old italian translation):
http://www.mediafire...ce545r2pj5rigb8
It works with the original mission package. The only file to be translated is strings\fm\*yourlanguage*.lang
Take a look at this for the structure.
This afternoon i will upload the prhase book external file.

Just to clarify, the conversion process does not touch at all the graphics, aesthetic, gameplay, performance, etc. ....
It 's just a change to the texts so that they can be read in an external file.
Then, the quality of translation.
regarding to the Italian translation, we have tried to make our translations increasingly close as possible to the original. Indeed, we must say that sometimes the quality of our translations has exceeded the original (as some mappers have a bad way of writing).
In addition, Sotha, see it from this point of view: The average Italian generally does not understand English well, so he will do not understand almost nothing of your original texts. With a translation, though with some small mistakes, he would SURELY appreciate more the mission.
----------------------------
Said that,
there are two ways to convert the missions:
1-All file regarding the texts are converted/copied in external i18n file, even those who do not have to be translated. In this way, is not touched the original file of the mission, but translators should be careful not to touch the gui files and translate only file.lang and image/maps.
2-It's converted both mission and external file. In this way, the original file must be changed, but the i18n contains only the file to be translated.
the first method would be best for the mapper, and the second best for the translators.
although with the first, the translators don't have limitations, however. must be only conscious of what they translate.
you choose.

Hello guys,
I am writing here to give good news to all (mappers and translators).
I and knymed are intentioned to convert all existent fms to the new multilanguage system.
My only request is this: all the mappers HAVE to inform us if they want to update their missions. So, we will wait for the update and then convert.
I hope this news makes happy a lot of people.

i would only inform than i and knymed have finished the italian translation of this mission.
soon the i18n will be modified, adding italian.lang file.
-
I don't understand the question.
When you create a mission, you normaly use the old string system and now you have converted in the new system. It's possible to create the mission using directly the new strings system?
-
Grayman, but it is possibile to create the mission directly into 1.07 structure?
-
I just released "In the North" to beta test.
Just prior to doing that, I spent some time preparing it for translations.
I followed Tels' wiki instructions, found a few problems, got them straightened out with Tels' help, and now have a process I can follow any time I want to update the mission PK4. I'm not aware of the differences between the "1.06 strings" system and the "1.07 strings" system; I can only assume that since I did this only a couple weeks ago, I'm using the latter.
I had to prepare the gui files myself, but that's nothing compared to the amount of work that the I18N.pl script takes care of. It took me about an hour to deal with the gui files manually, and since they're going to hardly change at all from here on out, I just copy and paste their strings into english.lang again if I have to rerun the perl script for a new rev. Easy peasy.
I do recommend not bothering with I18N until very near the end of the map creation process, though. It's way easier changing/creating readables along the way w/o having to worry about being translation-ready.
I've yet to give the translators my strings, so i can't comment on the problems of translations no longer fitting on the pages of readables, or what the briefing text looks like, etc. I imagine that can be a big deal.
I'm hoping that I can release the mission with just the english strings, and add the other languages as they become ready. I wouldn't want to wait for all translations to be done before releasing the mission.
Thanks for the work you are doing.

I see no problems in manually translating missions (have translated the mod, the training mission and thief's den, have another one to translate in the near future), so not all worries should be laid on the mapper. The classic case being I havent found time and energy to translate my own mission (those who hated the long readables will enjoy the irony). Tels work in automating a good deal of the translations for objects, hud, etc is commendable, and it takes a bunch of nights to translate a good sized mission, so no big deal really.
No,
for example, if now i want to translate the sotha mission, I have to use the i18n converter, convert the mission, test the mission, translate it, upload the new mission format and ask to sotha to delete previous mission format (to not have two types of the same mission) and update all the links.
And this for ALL the missions i want to translate.
-
Hello,
today I and Knymed were looking to translate this mission. But when we "analized" it, we found it's build with the 1.06 strings system and not with the 1.07 strings system (the new multilanguage system).
My question is: your mission has been released May 12, 2012 and the dark mod 1.07 system has been released november 27, 2011. Why you did not use the new strings system?

Doing so, you are wasting your drive's potential. Anand from AnandTech wrote an article about SSD life and flash cell wear. He quotes numbers from Intel, saying that you'd have to actually write somewhere around 20 GB per day for 5 years to get your first worn flash cells. Afterwards, he's talking about his own drive use, stating that he writes around 7 GB per day:
"If I never install another application and just go about my business, my drive has 203.4GB of space to spread out those 7GB of writes per day. That means in roughly 29 days my SSD, if it wear levels perfectly, I will have written to every single available flash block on my drive. Tack on another 7 days if the drive is smart enough to move my static data around to wear level even more properly. So we’re at approximately 36 days before I exhaust one out of my ~10,000 write cycles. Multiply that out and it would take 360,000 days of using my machine the way I have been for the past two weeks for all of my NAND to wear out; once again, assuming perfect wear leveling. That’s 986 years. Your NAND flash cells will actually lose their charge well before that time comes, in about 10 years."
So you might do yourself a favor if you put all your temp directories back on the SSD. I'm pretty sure you'll notice an increase in responsiveness. At least I did.
Yes, i agree with you.
I would add that the only thing that should be done on a ssd is to free up space, because space is not a lot especially on the 120 gb. I turned off hibernation that never used it (saved about 4 gb). I set the virtual memory to 50 MB, and saved other 4 gb. I disabled system configuration restore and saved another 3-4 gb.
In all, on my 120 gb, I released a 12 gb or so. : D
-
I have bought recently a corsair force gt 120 gb. It's a fantastic ssd and the declared speed are even lower than the benchmarks i've done.
Take a look at some reviews.
I suggest a 240 gb version, like this: http://www.mrelettro...t---240-gb.html

One question, the old translations use "Consiglio:" while yours use "Suggerimento:". I think they should be the same for consistency, but which one is (more) correct?
Suggerimento.

Tels, but how much strings missing in italian?

ithel, can you post your Power supply model?
Conversion of ALL fan missions to i18n system (important)
in Fan Missions
Posted · Edited by ECHELON
However, i understood that talking with you and sotha about this questions is useless, so i'll resolve the problem at the root: i and knymed will not do any conversion of your missions (i deleted now conversion of the phrase book) and will not translate any of your missions. So the quality of english remains intact at 100% and SURE there is no bug caused for the translation.
I'm sorry only about at the great number of hours that we spent for your missions (translation and convertion done).
