  1. Ok I think I see what you mean now. If you were losing health from drowning, then the breath meter would not come back or reduce in overall capacity. That infers that the drowning causes permanent lung damage that's not recoverable, causing dimished lung capacity.

    Am I right?

  2. I didnt think that the damage was from water inhalation, that would make sense. I am used to the life meter being the last few breaths, not permanent damage from the lack of it.

I don't understand that last sentence. Could you be more specific?

  3. They do look a little crabby though. I liked the limited weapons too, and I also like the breath meter. What sucked though was when you lost health from drowning and it would not come back, thats unrealistic.

How is that unrealistic exactly? Too much water intake can cause damage to the body that doesn't just go away by spitting out the water.

  4. I believe that artistic style and correct use of an engine is more important than just getting any engine as long as its the latest spiffy one. For instance, I played System Shock 2 (Dark Engine), and Undying (1st Unreal engine) last year for the first time, and those 2 immersed me more than the other titles newly released that year. Of course that may be due to the great gameplay and stories inherent in both

  5. It isn't. ;) The only way it could be is the other way around, because Thief was there BEFORE Splinter Cell. That's why this galls me even more, because in game mags every time a sneaking game is mentioned it is referenced to SC in a way as if they invented the sneaking genre.

Reminds me of this kid who asked his mom why Mary and Joseph named there kid after a curse :D

  6. Are you sure that's HDR? Cause i'll be damned if that doesn't look exactly like bloom.

Oh, and of the three games listed, i'de pick Farcry, both Pariah and ARea 51 were mediocre at best, and Farcry at least adds some free roaming and deeper stragety to it's standard FPS fare.

Then they put those stupid mutant monkeys in...

Well problem solved, as I mentioned Farcry at work, and one of my colleagues has the full game.

So now the question is should I get Pariah or Area 51?

  7. Im trying to think of ways to move to Canada in the next few years myself. I dont believe this country is going to be a very nice place to live in the next decade or so, politically, economically, whatever. Maybe New Horizon will let me crash on his couch for a couple of months. I like my eggs cooked over hard, BTW.

And what makes you think Canada is in anyway better. I here a lot of American's saying the same thing, but why they choose Canada is beyond me. It'd be better to stay where you are or find somewhere better.

  8. Well since George Lucas has said that it is based on current affairs

If that's the case then I say shame on George Lucas. I find that his prequel trilogy makes too many compromises to appease to audiences, like his childish Jar Jar character for the kiddies...UGH!!!

Star Wars original trilogy (non special edition) is timeless. The prequel screams of pop culture and product placement and allegory, blech -_-

  9. I'm personally annoyed by allegory, especially political ones. Such as the dribble I heard from some reviewers about how Episode 3 is a reflection of the Iraq War/war on terrorism and the patriot act in the US.

  10. And just as an aside, I don't believe there is any such thing as "true Altruism".

I believe someone who dies to protect/save someone is truly altruistic, as they would not be able to reap the benefits of pride or satisfaction.

  11. Only problem is time. :)

    We: Who are you?

    Wait four years ...

    Aliens: We are the borg

    We: How are you?

    Wait another four years ...

Aliens: Fine thanks, how are you?

    ...

And that's assuming for our nearest neighbour. :)

    That's a very non-Borg answer.

    More likely this:

    We: How are you?

    Wait another four years ...

Aliens: Our state of being is irrelevant. You will be assimilated!

  12. I'm loosely a fan, read some good stories like At the Mountains of Madness and Shadow over Innsmouth.

My gf is a lovecraft uber fan. She hangs out as a regular in the Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth forums.

    Ia Ia Cthulhu ftagn!!

  13. If your CPU fan fails on an intel, it shuts down.

If your CPU fan fails on an AMD, it will literally catch fire, and take your motherboard and who knows what else with it.

A $20 peice of hardware failing seems like a shitty reason to lose $1000's of hardware.

Although they are initially cheaper, you will see AMD enthusiasts spending about $80 or more on heavy duty cooling systems for this reason.

On another note, Mac are stopping making their own CPUs and switching to intel cpus. (Not AMD :))

Uhh that function is motherboard dependant. It's called CPU critical tempurature & CPU HALT detection. Just as many AMD motherboards have it as Intel ones.

Spending additional $80 is only necessary for overclocking. The stock CPU fan will cool an AMD processor more than enough to meet die temperature requirements.
