  1. I'd just like to point out that in T1-T2, there were MANY ways to accomplish a mission. So it's been done before, it can be done again. It does not require more work or planning, it just requires good FM design and mapping skills. It takes more work to make maps with rooms that are not all cubes too. <_<

    I love you Ishtvan

  2. I certainly hope you guys are going to provide us with all the arrows of Thief 1/2 lore and design them similarly.

I personally like the water arrows and rope arrows, but wouldn't arbitrarily remove the rest because of my disdain for the others and then cloak it under personal opinion.

  3. my answer is that I hate the fact I can save so often in the "Theif" Series. There is absolutely no penalty for your carelessness. You should be able to "buy" saves. That'd make finding loot all the more glorious.

A limited number of saves on the higher difficulties worked in AvP as I recall. I think each difficulty level that FM authors produce should be truly different and change even core elements like saving, carrying capacity, AI auditory and visual identification, more AI opponents (and not just randomly/arbitrarily spawned), AI alerted to more out of the ordinary events(moss patch not there before), etc..

  4. Age of Empires and AOM campaigns. Also recently did VTMB skins for stock models; working on a Vampire Blog. Also I tweak stuff in games if it has friendly config files, as in TDS where I reduced the overlarge HUD items and moved things around for increased viewing space.

  5. Wheel of Time is a major suckfest now, it started going downhill around book 6 or 7, and now the books bring "plodding along" to a whole new level of tedium. Jordan's simply trying to cash in on hardcore drones. He's all out of ideas and the series shows no direction.

Sword of Truth is still going OK, but Goodkind is starting to show the same symptoms...

  6. Everything you suggested there would make a game like Thief way too easy. Do you want no challenge at all, cause that's what non-hostile, gullable, half paying attention guards would make the game. I mean Thief guards are already stupid enough...

  7. Doomguy is shorter?

I always figured him a 6'+ foot guy who stands tall most of the time, whereas Garrett seems more like a 5'8" guy who spends more of his time hunched over trying to reduce his height for stealth reasons.

But it may be that the cam is in Doomguy's chest like you say

  8. What I find funny is this underlining praise for someone who spearheaded 1, maybe 2, great critically acclaimed games, then came out with 2 or 3 major flops and people say it wasn't because of him.

I'm going with Oddity on this one. I just can't understand this cult following for him when his game production quality level is at or around 50%.

  9. VTMB had a stealth indicator which used a slider that increased or decreased depending on the lighting conditions, but it lacked any noise indication. I think Riddick uses something similar too...

  10. They have a crude indicator on the map portion of the hud that darkens when you're fully "shadowed", but it works, and can be done anywhere there are shadows.

If you have a knife, you can even stealth kill ANYWHERE on the map.

I've seen many games with the same implementation of stealth, nothing new...

  11. I think I remember seeing the original video from years back which this one is parodied from, where the cubicle worker smashed his keyboard in frustration then bashed his monitor with it, got up and started to kick the shit out of the monitor in the hallway of cubicles.

You 'd have to be really angry to smash a 50 pound monitor with a 5 pound keyboard and send it flying :P

  12. For me <_< =

You throw in some offhand comment about someone not involved in the project saying Doom3 engine has lighting limitations and make it sound like this guy is the final authority. If you had "studied", you would have known about other mods and maps that use the Doom3 engine for stunningly large, outdoor, well-running and beautiful maps. Kudos to sparhawk for getting the interview back on track.

You stray off-topic and start talking about Blizzard and Gothic, were you getting bored?

Laughing at your own jokes and excessive smilies on top, and it gets a <_< from me. But you are better than most from EvilAvatar, which I usually consider giving a  or

  13. I think that that is completely tasteless. Until someone close to you totally shocks you with their unexpected suicide, I think you should keep the "humour" to yourself. Especially with recent news about a suicide pact with a guy from Oregon, and a woman on said chat willing to kill her kids too.....

  14. Developers can have their end product hugely impacted by the publishers whims. I don't know how far EIDOS pushed their ideas on Ion Storm, but I believe they were the ones to push hard for console games and keep PC as an afterthought.

Sometimes a publisher can be a blessing, just look at Bethesda letting HEadfirst Productions take their sweet time on Call Of Cthulhu, meanwhile ignoring all the whiners who want games to release on their time.
