  1. Why do you put a whole game on your desktop? o.O

I've got a question around moving objects:

In Q3A you could create a func_mover (or func_plat) and connect it to targets. The mover then moved to the set coordinates.

But how can I do this for TDM?

I tried the following things which all didn't work:

    - Connect a func_mover to a target_null

    - Connect a func_splinemover to a target_null

    - Connect a func_plat to a target_null

    - Using target_base instead.

    - Using path_corners instead for targets.

I also want to bind a soundspeaker to a moving object but I couldn't say if it worked or not, because I'm not that sure... I tried a to bind it to a func_plat, but the func_plat didn't does the things I wanted.

  2. I saw some episodes from a Dishonored Let's Play now. There is one thing I want to ask someone who have already bought the game: Is there an option to turn off all these "Press F to take" etc. overlays?

    Can I qicksave?

I hope there will be a fan who will create a HD Texturepack for this game... it is definitely needed.

@7upMan: About Deponia: Yes, with Harveys new Eyes and The Whispered World they did a great job but Deponia isn't in a scenario I like. Fun fact: Have you noticed, that the german voice actor for Rufus is the one from the Congstar commercial and "Schnösel" from Werner and "Ups die Pannenshow"?

  3. About Romney: I don't understand, why people believe in this man. It's a business man all through with all it's pros and cons. But even this guy wouldn't bring the US back into business, he would rather feece the folk.

He was against the reform of the healthcare system as well, despite the fact it met his own plans earlier. (Ah, politics: Don't listen, what your opponent says, just say it's bad for people...)

About abortion: Isn't this a silly season topic? (Well, maybe it is less important for me and I underestimate that.)

This is really the only reliable way to do it, because it is much more difficult to manipulate the results.

I think I must destroy this illusion. A teller who is a member of a party said once to me: "Well, when there is a blank voting paper I make a cross for them." So make sure to place your crosses everywhere if you don't would like to vote for someone. ;)

  4. So are Germans just more forgiving for this kind of thing?

No, the article was just released in 2010 at first, when more people knew it and it was showing progress. The german wikipedia and also the sports association hates e-sports for example.

    Edit:

I bet the English language one considers itself a kind of "last best hope for mankind" central hub for world knowledge ...

A thing around this I always wanted to ask the native english speaking people:

Don't you see the crude usage of your language in the internet as a lingual rape? I would cry if I would see half of the world, using my beloved language with soooo many horrible mistakes. And most of the times these people think they could even compete with a native speaker. Which they can't in fact.

  5. I am still a little bit in doubt if Dishonored would meet my expectations. Can I play it like a Thief game?

I bought Fallout 3 in the recent Steam Summer Sale and I was kinda disappointed because especially the art design and immersion wasn't at the high level of perfection I expected and most people described. You can now say: "Oh, you ignorant bastard." But it was one of my frist trips into first person RPGs, and it just don't felt right. (I will soon see, if I will make the same mistake with Skyrim again.)

So... should I buy it or will I get frustrated by art design and too many open world options again?

Btw.: eurogamer: Dishonored's Corvo used to sure look a lot like Thief's Garrett

  6. personly I will never buy anything made my Ubisucks as long as there is a hole in my arse.

Thats so sad, when I think back of the days, they just made/published cool games like the real Rayman series (not the bunnies), Settlers or Beyond Good & Evil. But nowadays they only focus on annoying every remaining customer and saying bullshit, like: "Assassins Creed 3 will be the last giant project in game development history." Yea, sure, thats why you will release AC3.5, 3.8 and 4 in the next 3 years, right?

@Bikerdude: You are so often mentioning points I could complain about hours...

  7. Don't you mean "Wakipedia" ...

Sure, you can name it like you want. ;)

It's a form of marketing and thats enough for the mod, significationrules or how they wanna call it put aside. I also hate those rules, when I see articles like this one: "pile of sand". One sentence translated for example: "The critical angle of repose is at 28°-34°. It depends on particle size and clamminess of the sand."

Oh boy... so this is more relevant than a mod?

  8. Hello everyone,

I searched around at wikipedia to find an english Dark Mod article and sadly couldn't find one. o.O All I got was this: http://en.wikipedia....ki/The_Dark_Mod

So it was deleted because it wasn't significant in 2007. Oh, come on... Maybe try again nowadays?

Sadly my english isn't that good to write a well elaborated article, but maybe it is something someone else want to get his/her hands on?

  9. @demagogue: What exactly is needed to make a mission standalone? Just textures, or is there some coding stuff needed as well? (Beside the missing animations of course.)

I thought it is just about assets, which will get replaced in the mission automatically and thats it.

  10. I totally agree with demagogue. - Maybe even mention the opportunity in the training mission in one of the readables?

    ....

However, the question is simple - should I be looking at gtkRadiant first and then moving over to DR, or is gtkRadiant (and its documentation) now irrelevant?

If you map for TDM there is no reason to go back to Gtk. ;) Many of the Gtk Tutorials still can be applied to DarkRadiant.

Just follow graymans link. (You can find some Tutorials on YouTube as well.)

If you are really new to mapping, make sure you have selected the right window layout for the editor. (View->WindowLayout) I think, many things come down to this, when you don't feel comfortable with the appereance. Anyway, don't hesitate to ask further questions or write a pm.

  11. Sure, crowdfunding isn't an opportunity because you don't have got permission from Eidos/Square Enix to get money for using some of their ideas. But a nice donation service like Flattr or PayPal might be considered? (Think of: Even the webspace have to get paid. ;)) But when I look at conversion rates of other sites with around 100,000 visitors each month, 52,222 forum users and only 24 contributors so far after 2 weeks after introducing the service it might isn't worth the effort. So their rate is at 0,024 %.

  12. I *believe* CryEngine 3 is free if you're just an average-joe user looking to put something together, that's another avenue you can explore as well.

Don't use this one, it has a percentage on profit you have to give to Crytek when you want to sell your game. And in addition you have to pay for the license as well. (Around a million if I remember right...)

The Unreal Engine 3 has got a more indie friendly license model. The first 50,000 $ in turnover are free, over that you have to hand 25% to Epic Games.

  13. Interesting idea but i think it is rather focused on scripting rather than on visuals.

    Another thought:

Have you thought about opening a contest, everyone whos interested, can register with a short description of their skills and then mix up the people in teams of 2?

So it is an opportunity for coders, modelers, texture artists, etc. to contribute to a mission, without knowing mapping in all it's details? It is a chance to get more people into mapping and learn from each other...

All you need is a dropbox account, skydrive, etc.

  14. Yeah, with the well-known ultra-realistic flight model that Wing Commander and Freelancer use... [...]

Sure, but you would never play Wing Commander or Freelancer if you would like to fly "realistic". There where other games, that did a better job on this, like you've said it. (X-Wing)

    I've never played Nexus: TJI.

You can still find active servers for Freelancer with a focus on PvP so I think the unrealistic flight model is the secret of success. ^_^ It's just another target group: fast-paced action 3rd person shooter (still needs a ton of skill) vs. realistic first person joystick input, including: "I need to push my joystick's thrust reverser lever first, before I can turn."

These are two groups of players in my opinion. And you will never aim, turn, brake faster with a joystick than with mouse and keyboard.

Chris Roberts wants to put in support for gamepads, joysticks, pedals, mouse, keyboard and a ton of things in addition.

And this is the point where I think, one of the player groups will tear up one of the others. - Sadly the group of players, using the input device the game is optimized for, will get the most advantage. >_< I get shivers that the mouse+keyboard combo will get dumped down, so the gamepad users won't get frustrated. (Or: autoaim for gamepads anyone?)

Even Valve didn't put CS:GO players from consoles and PCs on one server.

  15. Looks good and is really something what is missing in TDM! (Make sure to make it fit to an AI character in length.)

What is this green thing? Is it a flexible tube? - Don't know if rubber would fit to the steam punk scenario, but hell, why not.

Btw.: Have you began mapping your hospital map as well?

  16. It really sounds like the PSU or graphics card (which is the first in boot up and perhaps shows the flickering cursor) is dead... If it is a bursted capacitors, like Sotha has mentioned it you may can press the power switch, wait 5 minutes, until the remaining capacitors are at full charge, then press the power switch again and the computer boots up normally. It would explain looong boot up times as well I think.

About having too high temperatures at boot up: Don't worry, you can boot up CPUs without a cooler on it, as long as you only boot and turn it off after some minutes. Also the last thing which most of the times gets blown is the CPU. (Except for high overclocking.)

Anyway, follow Obsttorte's and Sotha's instructions...

  17. Don't speak that loud about it, the omni presence of the forum can hear it and chucks you out:

  18. @Radiant, so you are basically suggesting to get CS2 because overall, it's the best version of the bunch? What can be considered good prices for that version? I don't want to pay too much on eBay.

Yes. (If money matters CS2, otherwise the newest version available.)

Maybe you can get Photoshop with a students or academic benefit?

If yes, this one is a good price (199€): http://www.redcoon.d...?refId=94511215

But it seems like you can only get the newest version as a student.

You can also save a little bit, when you order a copy in english if thats no problem: http://www.amazon.co...e+photoshop+cs6

It will also be very tough to find a copy of CS 2 in these times. They wanna sell the new stuff. So I can't really recommend a good price for a normal version.
