  1. I'm doing pretty good with the halberd at the moment, even though the game tells me I shouldn't be :P Only the big skeletons are a problem now, the small ones go down so easily.

I really like it's handling though and I think I wanna go with pikes/long stabby things, so I guess I shold build up my strenght so I can use 'em properly with a shield? Also, are there any other drawbacks to using that halberd without the required (more like recommended...) STR except lower damage and having to dual-wield it?

Also I'm a bit at a loss where to go next. The only place I can think of are the catacombs (I think that's what they were called? Those caves past the skeletons).

I've been to Undead Parish via the Bridge behind the Taurus Demon (I gues simplen00b had the master key and unlocked the door at the base of that tower? Is that what the "basement key" is for I found somewhere in Undead Parish?) with the Dragon on top. Killed the chargy-thingy-boss with firebombs from the little bridge, and the black-rectangle-shield guy with firebombs as well. Found the smith, got scared by his lightning-ball-spewing neighbour and found the large closed gate with the knight in front of it. Took the elevator in the church to find out i leads back to Firelink Shrine. Is there anywhere else to go from Undead Parish?

Guess I'll explore a bit now, check the tower (basement?) door and maybe I'll even find the door that the "mystery key" goes to. I'll also try to get to the catacombs without one of the large skeletons following me and surprising me from behind. Oh, and I'll slay the dragon...... nah, just kidding.

  2. I'm about three hours in... got to the Taurus Demon after about two hours, couldn't defeat him of course. Spent the last hour exploring Undead Burg, practising, farming and trying to kill that big black knight guy guarding that underground passage to no avail. Also tried going the other way from the first bonfire, ran into those skeletons that I can't deal any damage to. I guess I need a blunt weapon? Hope that merchant has any in stock.

Edit: Well, after about another hour of faffing about I got the reinforced club (that thing is great, especially when dual-wielding), found out how to make that one jump to get the crossbow and bolts (kinda useless I guess), made another daring jump onto a roof in Undead Burg that didn't get me anything, snatched that ring the black knight was guarding by pulling him away and running past him and I defeated the Taurus Demon with firebombs. Wasn't that hard actually, I just don't have any firebombs left now, so the next boss might be a problem.

  3. We haven't had a good Hitman game in eight years, so this will have to suffice.

If it's as good as the first two then it'll do more then just suffice. There actaully are quite a few things about DtS that I like more then in Hitman. The missions are usually a lot larger and open, and I like the atmosphere a tad more. The mission design itself also feels a lot more thoughtful than in Hitman. On the flipside DtS is not as polished, and it's a tad too easy to drag people around the whole map by whistling. I remember that I had to beat some missions in the first one ways that fealt like exploits to me (especially Project Y or what it was called...)

Completed the demo mission, and now I'm really excited for it. Everything from the first two seems to be there or enhanced. Instinct mode is actually really not that bad, it basically conveys the same info as the old map overlay and the new map makes you actually able to plan ahead a bit more.

  4. Just got this because it's 7 Euros on Steam and everybody recommends it. I usually really don't like Fantasy stuff, and the intro sequence seemed kinda generic to me story-wise, but I actually really do like the overall atmosphere... it's so dark and mysterious.

Can't complain about the controls since I'm using a gamepad, and I've yet to actually start playing the game but I tend to not mind hard games as long as I enjoy the atmosphere/gameplay enough.

  5. Looks like Hitman.

It basically is, just in World War 2. The first two also felt reminiscent of the old Commandos games. The third one seems to be even more Hitman-like with the new map system and it seems the inventory system of the first two is gone :(

Also my heart stopped for a second when the tutorial introduced "Instinct", though it doesn't seem to be that much of a dealbreaker and other then those three things the rest of the game feels very true to the first two.

  6. Shameless bump for attention. This game is pretty awesome, been playing throughout the week all over, blasting those pesky Blues out of the sky (don't you even dare get in range of my frigate's beam turrets!). Codestar, the dev is pretty active too, gathering feedback and he's already announced a patch sometime next week. Anyone interested in playing this, download this and join this group if you're on Steam so we can get some proper rounds going

(I know, this is a forum for a fantasy/steampunk game, but sureley there are some people here that have a knack for the good old zippy-zappy laser cannon as well, right?)

It's a multiplayer space combat game and the open Alpha has just been released. I've played a few rounds against bots so far (as I couldn't find anyone online), and so far I'm impressed.

The developers took a lot of inspiration from Homeworld, as it is basically Homeworld, but as an FPS.

You can take control of ships ranging from fighters to huge battleships, with corvettes and above having multiple crew seats.

It's still kinda rough around the edges, but it's really fun to play, even against bots.

  8. "6) AI walks back to the position where the item was picked from his pocket. He stands there and looks around."

How would the AI know where the player pickpocketed him? I like the idea of him retracing his path though, maybe making the AI do its normal patrol, just backwards, slower and kinda zig-zagging searching the ground. However I also think that the type of AI and/or loot should have an impact, a random civillian losing his purse might think he just left it at home, but a noblemans guard losing a key might get into serious trouble for that and thus as a severe motivation to find it again.

  9. It's a fallacy to say that making something good and making money can't be done at the same time.

Making something good and making money are indeed not necessarily exclusive, but doing the one does also not have anything to do with doing the other. He said we shouldn't expect them to make art, not that it's impossible for them to ever create something good.

  10. I like how the guy in the bridge video presses to the table at around 38:40. It seems he was actually trying to frob the box. Are the cover/action button the same?

Also, the constant flashing of the edges of the screen is really irritating.

  11. The Death To Spies series (two games currently), it's like Hitman in WW2 (and a lot less polished, I still really like it though).

Speaking of WW2: The Commandos series, it's more of a tactics game, but it's focused around stealth (the last one was actually first person, but featured quite a few action sequences as well. I still had quite a bit of fun with it).

Similary to Commandos, there were quite a few similar games, mostly made by Wanadoo, that employed a similar game mechanic. They're not pure stealth, but still rely on it:

Robin Hood, Desperados, and Chicago 1930, probably some more.

There are also Shinobido and Prosoner of War for PS2 that I found quite enjoyable.

  12. Dammit, C&C and Hitman have already been posted, and even Anachronox and Pathologic... Let's see what else is there...

Started playing this forgotten gem recently, and quite like the theme

Also this game's whole soundtrack, but especially this song

That being said, I usually don't like (pseudo-)orchestrated music in games too much.

  13. it distroyed the surrounding buildings when it fell on them

So, I guess...the sorrounding buidlings were destroyed, but the clocktower was fine? They just put it up straight again? Or maybe they realligned the city around it?

  14. I've never been really active in a lot of online communities, though I've been lurking a fair share of forums. I'm usually not too eager to get vocal on the net, and take my time getting accustomed to a community before I even consider signing up, but here I felt right at home. Might be because it's small (yet?), but I'm wondering about the "average age". I hope it's not because of that, otherwise I might have ruined the community by signing up with my feeble 18 years ;)

  15. No sound on impact as in guards won't hear when you take out someone near them, or just not notice if you miss? If the first, yeah, totally OP. If the latter, I wouldn't want to buy that. That'd make me lose out on a ghetto version of the noisemaker arrows. One way or the other, seems they'll really stick with the simplified, kill-happy way they've been going so far.
