  1. I have certainly no objections to making him a Team Member, given his voice acting. It all depends whether he wants to become one, not everybody likes to get too involved into things.

I'll ask if he wants to be a team member. He's all down for writing the scripts, plus for future reference he'll be a good asset concerning writing, voicing, etc.

Also, Grayfox06 is wondering when you guys require the scripts? Well, more like when I require the scripts... I want them in the 1.1 release. When is that!?

  2. Just wondering what has happened to these creatures, are they going to be released in the dark mod? It would be nice to play some missions with these creatures included.

I miss them from thief 2

Well we have a delicious treat for you on the 1.1 release.

In fact, I personally have a pit of treats for you

  3. Here's what I got from Grayfox06. I will send him the example scripts to use as a template; although he knows what to expect, being the primary voice talent behind TDM already. Not sure if you guys want to make him a team member, though it would be kinda cool.

Voice actor and writer? Sounds worthy of team member I suppose.

I have the voice actress already for action. She's fantastic.

Yea sure I'll do em. How soon do the guys want em? I need to get a template for how they want em to look. Give me the script for pro or something so I have something to work off. So they want two female voices? I'm guessing a peasant and a guard voice. You think Callie could pull off a tough female guard voice?

  4. Hey! Grayfox06 is practically the voice of TDM! And a screenwriter too? Then great for writing dialog too. Maybe even suggest some more female crazy person lines for the other thread.

Lol, he kinda is the "voice" of TDM... yeah a screenplayer, novel writer, writer writer...

I sent him a PM and a text msg from ye olde iphone.

  5. Don't know if I can make time but I'm willing to do a bit if there are not enough other helpers. One other character I'd have liked to see is a totally generic neutral that would fit in anywhere. Sort of a counterpoint to these extreme characters. Not all whores cuss and swear all day long for instance (so I'm told  ) and not all builders praise the Builder all day (probably) anyway sometimes it's nice to have a blank forgettable character who just can be put in anywhere even as a guard, a noble, a builder. A whole list of statements can be thought up that anyone might make. "wonder if I'll be busy tomorrow?" could be a city watch, a servant, a builder. Anyway, probably not the right thread but just a thought for the future, male and female.

I'll have to side with Fidcal on this one.

We need at least one neutral-ish female voice set for the 15% to 25% of NPC's that will be used in most levels.

I can see if Grayfox06 would like to write the script - he's the voice behind the grumbler, lord, old hammer, and zombies, and is also a screenplay writer to boot. I'm sure he would like to lend a helping hand :)

  6. Gosh... What can I say. Thanks guys! I can't take all the credit however. I did grumbler, old hammerite and noble. GoldChocobo did some as well as another friend of ours who did thug and young hammer, I think. It would definitely be nice to do some more vocal sets in the future. If we all remember from our old experience from thief how the right voices made all the difference in the mood and atmosphere of the game. The right sounds gave it so much more depth. And I think with the new folly sounds for footsteps it really came full circle as far as sound in TDM goes. Its good to see such loyal dedication and attention to detail.

And zombie - which noone but the dev team has heard yet.

  7. Yes, finishing off the Builder 2 set would be worthwhile. We could also use another "average joe" set for regular people who are not quite as dull-witted as the Simpleton.

I'll post the updated vocal list.

Well all the guards double as commoners do they not?

Most definitely finishing Builder 2 would be worth it.

  8. Ok, I'm trying to get life back on track after one hell of a year. I have a voice actor available who is dying to do some work.

I'm quite out of the loop these days, so I'm just wondering what voice sets we are currently in need of? He is very versatile, and great with accents...so I think we can throw anything at him.

Oh, and where can I find the latest voice set outline to cover all the different states?

Sorry once again for letting you all down, but I hope to start making up for it and covering some lost ground.

We could use another builder, in my opinion. Two isn't really enough for builder only levels :P.... but another guard would be great too!

  9. Hey guys

Fog is an issue in doom3... could we at least set a nonsolid patch (set to func_static in DR) with a moving transparent fog texture? For a few key elements it would actually work, although if the player were to duck under it they would see it "clip" through them.

  10. The space is fine I think, but I had to fight some of the "hiss" using a filter - without it the samples sounded very strange towards the end and they took ages to fall off to zero. I'm not a sound technician though, and I don't have a good sound card nor earphones either, I just do what I find turns out best on the speakers I have available.

    There is a hiss?

I probably did something extremely wrong. I'm gonna go over everything. This is almost embarrassing.

EDIT: foudn point of issue - random crackles. Probably due to some recent studio issues I've been going through (ie windows 7... never pays to be bleeding edge I tell ya). I'm gonna have to remix these down - sorry Greebo.

  11. Maybe it's just me, but I hear some bad artifacts from either a de-esser or noise reducer on the metal steps (particularly running). Did you have to do a lot of post processing of these?

MD, I found the problem. It is only in game, my master's are fine.

What is happening is the reverb tail is being cut off too quickly causing an "appearance" of backround noise, or some sort of hiss. I will test all the other footsteps as well.

    @ Greebo

Did I give you enough "space" in between footstep sounds? We need to re-cut the sfx, the reverb tail needs to cut off at 0 volume naturally, without the help of a fade out.

  12. Erm.... Any chance she could also do a 'mad woman' mini voice set too? Basically I'm thinking of just demented ramblings, moans, groans, plus a few shrieks for when she attacks and others for when she dies - just your average crazy mad woman in the attic type person. Here's the script...

    "aaaaahhhhh!!!!! "

    "oooooohhhhhhhhhhh!!"

    "wwwoooooooo!!!"

Seriously, I could do some demented rambling lines. I'm thinking "let me out" "I won't hurt you!" "cackle" "feed me!" stuff but thought I'd better check if it can be done before I commit myself to such advanced literary creativity. ;)

Sure why not. I could use some rambling woman in my levels anyway.

  13. Maybe it's just me, but I hear some bad artifacts from either a de-esser or noise reducer on the metal steps (particularly running). Did you have to do a lot of post processing of these?

I just went over my master mixdown of the running footstep sfx. I have a noise reducer on it, though it's not doing too much. I honestly can't hear any artifacts, though its late at night and my ears are ringing like hell. I'll check over them again tomorrow.

  14. Something like this? I can make up a batch of variants if it's what you had in mind.

Looks great. Maybe dirtier, but it's up to you :D

edit: Is that a model? I can't tell. if it's not, might as well remove the curves on the corners to make it more "pasteable" on a brush.

  15. Has anyone seen this (or heard of it?)

It's a war movie, I've never had such a big impression left on me by a movie... Here's what the description says:

If you liked Apocalypse Now, Das Boot or similar movies I recommend giving this a go. Be forewarned though it doesn't hold back. Things which other movies imply or glorify are absent. There is no hero despite what the description says. The child is a protagonist but there is NO hero which is the opposite of every Western war firlm I've ever seen. It's a magnificent film which I'll likely never watch again because it's too stressful but I think it's worth seeing.

Here's a link to the film:

Note: If you want the full experience buy the dvd.

I tried finding it where I live with absolutely no luck so I watched half on youtube and then the entire thing on DVD.

    Brutal.

I will have to watch it.
