Frozenbyte, makers of Trine and Shadowgrounds, are putting out a new stealth game called Shadwen. As part of the whole promo deal, GOG is offering the demo for free from February 24th to February 29th. They're also hosting a contest, with prizes for the highest-scoring players. You can grab the demo here, and find more information here. The game website displays player stats and more info.
[Edit] Sorry for the long post earlier, it was kind of rambley and probably didn't make much sense. Long story short, this seems like a neat game.

Thanks Epi! I've got a rough idea of what I want to do for the low-poly mesh (I kept different copies of the khopesh at various stages of construction, and I think with some deprecation or manual editing on one of the earlier ones, I should be able to bring the poly count down to acceptable levels), but I don't yet know if it'll work. It may be worth starting a PM thread to get into the specifics.

Well done on the creases! Only thing I'd do at this point (if you plan on baking it) is to get a fairly dense lowres mesh over that and maybe put some smoothing on your highres reference you've been working on. By smoothing I mean subdivision refinement. You may have to add some various edge loops so that you don't lose the good shapes going on here. But it'll make for some smooth'n snazzy normals when you're done. I'm a boss with baking in XSI but I don't know precisely how that's done in Blender (assuming that's what you're using?).
How's this?
Also, yes, I'm using Blender.

I've finally got the finished high-poly (I guess?). I have no idea what I'm doing...... XD
No doubt the scale is completely off for TDM, so that'll have to get fixed at some point. In the meantime, what do you guys think, is this ready for texturing?

I like the shape a lot. If anything I'd just thicken the middle of the blade a little bit. The hilt looks perfect imo.
To be more specific my thoughts would be to have it widen right at that sharp curve and then taper off to the end. All while keeping the same overall shape. Also if you want any advice or aid with the texturing feel free to hit me up via PMs.
Hey Epi, thanks for the response! In regards to the shape, it's actually already 1 to 1 scale with this irl khopesh (which is the one I'm attempting to replicate), but I'll certainly consider your advice:
I definitely will need help with texturing later, so thanks in advance!
Also, tiny update, finally fixed the blade and got the edge in. I'll try and finish the rest soon.

Maybe not the best project to be tackling as a newbie...
I think I need to redo the blade, tbh.

Actually, I ran into the same problem when I was trying to upload my avatar. It has nothing to do with file type or size (I tried varying both, nothing worked) - I think uploading directly is just broken. I believe the solution I found was to host my avatar on an image hosting site (like Imgur), then import the photo from a URL.

Perhaps something like a warm air stove would be more appropriate?

Failing that, the Romans actually had central heating with hypocausts, which are pretty neat.

Actually, Wikipedia seems to think radiators originated in 1855, and in the US in the 1860's. I don't know if that's still too late for TDM's setting, but given we have both steam and electricity, I feel it wouldn't be too out of place in the home of some hyper-rich noble with ties to the Inventor's Guild, but that's just my two cents. Still, I understand how it might be out of place.
Nice work on the model, though!

Have you tried the Maya Auto-Control Rig Script?
Also, for any enterprising Blender users, here's what I found. I'd try it, but I have to relearn Blender first.
Yeah, I can see how the new animations would break preexisting stuff. I do like the idea of a separate set of Mixamo-animated characters; that seems like the way to go. Who knows: if we can get them to work, we may find they become more usable after refinement, and meanwhile we wouldn't be interfering with what we currently have.
Do we have any documentation on the player model? I searched on the wiki and couldn't turn up anything.

They have a pretty diverse selection. Some of them (like the sports-related ones, or ones involving guns) probably aren't so useful to us, but others could be. If you hit search, you can actually browse animation genres, and combat animations are one of the categories - they have animations for axes, sword and shield combos, bows, even a claymore if I'm not mistaken. There might be some goods ones under the "Adventure" genre, and looking through I think I saw one or two good ones for NPCs just doing random things. I think there's also some nice spellcasting animations, if we want to work on things like mages and pagans.
Out of curiosity, if we started using Mixamo animations, would we be doing so in conjunction with animations we already have? Would it be possible to apply some of these animations (like the crouch) with the player's reflection in mirrors?
Also, do you have footage of the builder guard (I'm mighty curious as to what it looks like XD)?
[Edit] Ah, ninja'd my post with the video, cheers

Unfortunately, I don't have much time to look into this atm, but here's something I found after a quick Google search:
https://community.mixamo.com/hc/en-us/categories/200186383
It may be possible to get it to work with Blender by the looks of it, but someone will have to confirm this. May also be worth trying 3ds Max, if anyone has that?

I went looking for Unity tutorials, and came across this:
Mixamo was recently acquired by Adobe, and while Adobe tries to figure out how it wants to go forward from here, all Mixamo services (including models and animations) are, for a limited time, completely free to anyone with an Adobe ID. Their Q&A page states, "Mixamo is available for a limited duration as a technology preview and is available free, without license or royalty fees, for unlimited use in both commercial and non-commercial projects."
Animations can be downloaded as FBX (.fbx), FBX for Unity (.fbx), Collada (.dae), Biovision (.bvh), and Biovision for 3ds Max Biped (.bvh). You also have options for FPS, Mixamo skins, and keyframe reduction, as well as tweaks for individual animations. What I'm wondering is, can we use this stuff for TDM? If not, it still works with Unity (for anyone who's interested).

I know this thread's a bit old, but I recently went digging for screen recording software and found out that CamStudio apparently now comes bundled with malware:

Just thought I'd put this out there for anyone thinking of downloading it.

Here's the prefab for a standard wall tent I made (pretty much just brushes and patches):
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8xVqpVdwvaRYWpaT2ZDYXhENFU/view?usp=sharing
Should be big enough to allow both AI movement and some amount of interior decorating (cots, desks, furnaces, etc.), and is fully monsterclipped. Probably needs some performance tweaks. Feedback appreciated!

Pretty cool looking. I had a similar vision for an FM once, but you've brought it to life, at least this one corner of it.
Thanks! This is more of an experiment to see what an Egyptian-style FM might look like (given current assets/tools), rather than a concrete WIP, so no guarantees this actually sees the light of day. But, if you're interested, I'm completely open to help/suggestions. The sand certainly needs work, for one thing...
And, while it's not the most spectacular asset in the world, if anyone wants the tent, I could maybe turn it into a prefab?

Thanks for the advice about the tent, guys. Finally got around to (mostly) fixing it; shadows were indeed the problem.

Now blocking support for the latest CPU's in windows 7/8 - http://www.theverge.com/2016/1/16/10780876/microsoft-windows-support-policy-new-processors-skylake
There are Windows 7 and 8.1 devices out there with Intel's Skylake processor already and the short answer is that it likely won't affect those systems. Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 devices powered by Intel's Skylake processor won't just stop working right now or after the 18 months grace period. The move seems to be more of a scare tactic by Microsoft to continue its push to Windows 10 - Looks like click-bait
I've got a Skylake in my new Windows 7 machine (which I ardently want to keep running Windows 7, indefinitely if possible). It doesn't look like it should be a massive issue, but should I be at least mildly concerned?

Having some issues with patch mesh whilst attempting to build a tent. The outside looks alright, but the lighting on the inside is messed up (even though it's the same patch, just moved slightly and with the matrix inverted). Any suggestions on how to fix this?

One quick question about my SSD. I've currently got both TDM and Darkradiant installed on it, and therefore my WIPs are on there as well. In order to save writes, should I instead move my WIPs to my HDD instead, or is it okay to leave them where they are?
-
Hi all, think I'm having a bit of a rendering issue with this version of Darkradiant. After a certain distance in camera view, things start disappearing. I don't remember this happening in 2.0.1, which is what I was using previously. Is this a bug? Is there any way to easily fix this?
[Edit]: Nevermind, found the issue. "Enable far-clip plane" was checked by default, I've now managed to turn it off. Derp.

I own GOTY edition on PS3, though I think it shouldn't be all that different from the Steam version. Overall, I'm extremely happy with it, and I'm almost completely sure you don't need to replay the campaign to access the story DLC - it should be available instantly. The Dunwall City Trials are pretty neat too; some of them are a little frustrating (Train Runner, I'm looking at you...), but some of them should be right up a Thief/TDM player's alley (Burglar, for instance). If it's only 50 cents more, I'd say go for it.

What were your final specs?
Ended up going with the original build you suggested, even though it was a little more expensive. Also added Biker's monitor, plus the keyboard, mouse, and UPS unit.
-
@Bikerdude I went to have a look at that first article, and it seems like the easiest fix at this point is just to switch to TKIP. Since I don't own the router, I can't go mucking around with the firmware, so I guess this is the best I can do.
On a more positive note, thanks for drawing my attention to the Home Hotspot problem - I pointed it out, and we got it disabled right quick. Comcast really overstepped their boundaries this time...
And again, an enormous thank you to everyone!
