Germany has retaken the #1 spot, down with those American dogs.
There are quite a few gamers in poland btw, at least that was my impression from several online games.

Cool, finally Gamestar gives TDM the deserved attention. I was wondering for some time that they never reviewed it. Did someone send them an email?
Translation of the conclusion at the end of the article:
Florian Heider: Wow, is that slow. That was my first thought about The Dark Mod. Considering many modern stealth action games with "super instant kill 4 all self heal bullet time function, it is no wonder. Once i get used to the moderate game tempo, my initial worries were forgotten. The Dark Mod achieves exactly what i wished: It plays like Thief with slightly (??) improved graphics.
When i hold out in the dark for minutes, checking the routes of the guards, disposing the perfect plan for a perfect raid, i feel like back in time, 1998. Thanks to the busy community, permanent supply of fan missions is assured. My colleague Löwenstein can be looking forward to the reboot (Thief 4), i happily stick to this wonderful fan project.
Very positive review.

Regarding the overlay: I already play TDM via Steam and it works like a charme.
Good to know.

Second, Steam SUCKS. I had to get Steam to play Black Mesa. I'll never again use the horrid Steam. The system is full of DRM. Valve is in your face with DRM as much as if not worse than Google. I'm not talking about DRM in the games themselves.. I'm talking about DRM for the Steam system and the checks and double checks they use to sign up and connect to the platform and also forum - these systems don't work right half the time and are very annoying. Don't believe me.. Google problems with Steam and you'll see.
No idea what you're talking about. Logins have nothing to do with DRM. Also, the login system of Steam is there for your own safety, so noone can take over your account. Also, i never had a single problem logging in.
-
Yeah there's no integration required for the overlay functionality whatsoever.
Nice.

Forgot to add that to my list, great game too.

I heard about it from the naysayers on TTLG who said it was shit and never going to work and don't bother and how dare we even try blah blah blah
And i thought it was only me... indeed there are a lot of people on TTLG who say no to everything which is remotely different to Thief 1 & 2... real elitist stuff sometimes.
Anyway, on-topic, i can't remember now really... i play it since version 1.0 though (took a long break then), and heard of it before the initial release. I think i read about it on some gaming site, but no idea which one.

Started to play Deus Ex (once again) yesterday (with the patch now in HD resolution in widescreen ). Regularly, i play Splinter Cell (parts 1-3), GTA series, Gothic, and i started but did not play through Oblivion. Oh, and Worms Armageddon.

Sotha, that's just because it's so cold that nobody goes outside in Finland resulting in more overall gaming activity. ;-D
I was about to post the same hehe.

Little rant: The lockpicking is actually one of the few things i don't like so much in TDM. An example of a well made lockpicking system is Fallout 3. It feels natural, and isn't as frustrating as some of the other implementations (Gothic series, Oblivion, awful...). Not that i want to say the TDM lockpicking is bad, i just feel like it could be better.

Would Steam code have to be integrated to have functions like the Steam in-game overlay? Or does it work wihout it? It's a very handy feature.

Btw, this forum is much more alive since the 2.0 release.

No idea. I applied the TFix for Thief Gold (which applied newdark and new textures), and the normal newdark patch for Thief 2.
-
Thanks for the quick reply! Well, I realy wish I could play missions from first two games in TDM so the have improved grafics. Well, I guess I can't have everything I have the Thief Anthology so I will just install and play Thief 1 and 2 (and try to use my imagination to improve the grafics )
Just buy them cheap at Steam, apply the TFix patch to Thief Gold, and the Tafferpatcher to Thief 2, and enjoy (Thief Gold already got a graphics overhaul). When the old missions would be rebuild for TDM, it wouldn't be the same, as the gameplay would change quite a bit.
Btw, Thief 3 isn't half as bad as they say. (can't get tired of saying this )

Competitive speed-runs??? "Track your time & beat your friends." In a Thief game???
Check Youtube. There is loads of them for Thief 1-3. Not the way i would like to play the game too though. It is exactly the way of slow, yet tense gameplay which attracts me about Thief.

Their face muscles are probably so tense when alerted that the arrows literally pop off the face without effect. Or so.

Alright, that would explain the level of detection. Although the visibility meter seems pretty dark in that corner, i would say completely dark. Just tried to reproduce the situation, but unfortunately, the guard patrols seem pretty random on that map. :/ Noone patrolling there now. Anyway, i'll keep my eyes open, if it happens again

I hid them perfectly, and they didn't step on them. I noticed that the A.I. discovers the body quite a few times now. In most cases, it were spots i hid before, and they couldn't see me. Just play In The North by grayman, and i hid a body in the armory, in a corner in total darkness, and the guard spotted the body from quite a distance. Really, there has to be something wrong.
-
Something which bothers me for quite a while now, even more so, as some map makers seem to enjoy implementing guards which patrol the whole map, and then at one point come across my perfectly hidden bodies. Really sucks, if they can't see me in the shadow, why can they see the bodies in the shadow? Please have a look into this, it totally ruins the gameplay for me.

The german games mag Gamestar also has The Dark Mod in the news: http://m.gamestar.de...od,3028788.html Which is pretty great, as it's the biggest games mag in germany.
Edit: I see now, it already was posted on post 1, nevermind.

wot guard, I must have gone the other way.
The annoying person in the small hallway, directly before you get to the entrance of the church.
Btw, Spider? Can't remember a spider at all on that map...
-
Great stuff, thanks. Are those listed under Ready for 2.0 release updatable, or just "compatible" with 2.0?

Guys, doors are opening VERY slow. And if you are on its way it will stuck (like in original thief) and ull have to reopen it. And its slooooow
What mission? Didn't happen in the training mission...
-
Alright, thanks. Old Habits was indeed one of the mission it downloaded twice i think. There were 1 or 2 others also, but i can't remember now.

Well, if Steam had so many issues, it wouldn't be so popular i guess. I'm sorry it doesn't work for you though, it sure does for me, and obviously for a lot of people also. *shrugs*
