  1. I got some ugly "Z-Fighting" when keeping it on the ground that could only be solved by placing the ends a bit under the ground. How do you do this the right way?

Btw should I make the Patches noshadows 1 ?

you need to set grid size to minimum and place your patch 0.025 point higher than ground (just like with decals)

  2. ok,there is few problems with TDM textures : some of them is too flat and some them is too clean

there is a problem with gameplay in TDM : player (Thief) running slower than heavy-armored guards

Post-processing effects is quite good and adjustable

  3. I'd say so. B)

One thing that you may be having an issue with is that Doom 3's reliance on normal maps has two troubling consequences:

    1) Since they eat Gallons of texture memory, your budget for unique textures is lower and hence more repetition

    2) With older static lit engines, you could use hand-drawn "bridge textures" to add nuance and detail to material transitions...

....with normal maps these transitions would need to be made as high-poly models and baked to a model that is a copy of the brush geometry (unless you've got an eye from drawing normals by hand...)

Problem 2 is something that I've been considering awhile now. The answer to how "solvable" it is comes down to:

    1) Is there a tool that can convert Normal Maps back to geometry (Oneofthe8devils had a doom3world thread that implied there was...) ?

    2) Might it be possible to modify the "renderbump" command to work with brushes and patches?

    3) Are there any tools that can convert normal mapped brush prefabs into "virtual high-poly models" in real-time to "sculpt normals"

    Blender plugins (etc).

I'm surprised that such solutions would never have been discussed before given how widespread the use of Normal Maps are but

I guess that since UE3 is heavily biased towards Modelers (as the core content creators) that the topic has not really been broached that

    much by the industry...

oh god, nbohr, mappers syndrome is not about normalmaps...

Perhaps i suffer from the mappers syndrome.

    yeah,me to

  4. BTW why is this thread still open and why this guy is still not banned from what i know of him is beyond me.

ban me after all good things i do for TDM ?

    Get out.

Hahaha WTF is going on in this thread...

I should have known when I ignored the troll thread my FM would get so much attention.

You actually a member of TTLG forums where everything except Thief-gen is fat-trolled

  5. ^ I think that is probably why people don't take your crits well Shadowhide.

You are great at saying this maps sucks, Skyrim suxors... But you never back it up. Sure in Skyrim you say 'all dungeons look the same'. But still, that doesn't say much. When I go in a dungeon I can tell it's a certain type (ice cave, tomb, rock cave, etc...) but that doesn't make them all look alike. Sorry, it just plain doesn't.

yeah,i think you right. My english skill doesn't allowing me to pick the right words and arguments

I could pick something from 7th crystal, cosas, CL that look way better. I could also show you a pick of blackheart that would blow them all away.

that what should happen.TDM mission should blow away T2fms

So you obviously don't understand what it really takes to produce a good map, but you complain with no good explanations.

i understand, but i have no enough talent for this

Maybe next time you start to complain you should open up DR and try to map instead. Put that energy towards something useful.

i leave mapping to a talented people

    examples:

The PD lighting is continuously varied, because of multiple point light sources and shadows from geometry. The KM shot consists mostly of ambient lighting, making the textures look flat, with only a couple of smallish point lights using what appears to be a rather unrealistic falloff (constant brightness up until the edge, then a short blend followed by nothing). I remember specifically noticing this when I started to play KM myself.

PD's geometry is asymmetric, intricate and makes use of the vertical axis in many places (including some ramped streets). KM's exterior geometry is mostly symmetrical and flat, with very little use of the vertical axis, and gives the impression of a "rectangle in the middle of nowhere", without any surrounding buildings or skybox to give context.

Both of the shots contain almost entirely "clean" textures with no grime or dirt, but it is more noticeable in KM because of the large areas of a single texture, as opposed to PD's more subdivided texturing.

yeah, that what I'd say if i were smarter and knew english better

This is not intended to criticise the mapping of KM at all, given that I have never produced any map of any quality, but I can see why a new player seeing that shot of the KM exterior (or in game) might not feel it gives a good impression of the engine's capabilities.

thats it,new players should see something like Blackheart(btw, any news on this one ? or it become part of Omens campaign ?) or something by Biker or Melan

  6. At least five other people have ranked Knighton Manor as one of their Top 5 favourite missions, so I'm not sure I'm the one "not getting it".

it means they have a bad taste

    In what way?

sorry,my english is very poor, and im dont understand what you asking about

  7. cant you see it yourself ?

    PD have better lightning

1 batch of screenshots have same amount of detail (no details at all),but PD is textured and lighted way better than KM

as for 2 batch of screenshots - PD is way better detailed, lighted and textured than KN

Also you should keep in mind that PD was first Demagogue's mission, when KN was third sotha's mission

And PD was released year before KN

  8. Shadowhide, you make no sense whatsoever.

You complain endlessly about Knighton Manor, which has average visuals, yet your own mission had some of the worst, most boxy geometry I've seen yet in TDM. One of the missions you list as your favourites is Patently Dangerous, which has visuals that are even weaker than Knighton Manor.

You complain that the "skybox looks better than actual geometry" one minute and then say "Graphics have no matter" the next. You're hard to take seriously at the best of times, and contradicting yourself doesn't help.

Patently Dangerous looks and plays way better than Knighton manor,Springhat. Also Patently Dangerous have exiting and creepy storyline

    -

    You dont even get it

Skybox shouldn't look better than actual geometry. That is not right

  9. then how does TDM NOT feel thiefy because it's in Doom3 ENGINE.

NO ! only idiots will refuse to play TDM because it based on D3 engine

it feels Thiefy,it plays like Thief, but when you expecting awesome missions based on newer engine and getting this, you obviously be frustrated in mod in general

  10. Maybe he doesn't like the genre. Maybe he's just a graphics whore and even a good (but ugly) mission wouldn't be fun. It's not Crysis dude, it's a slow action contemplative game. People who really like Crysis probably will never like TDM and vice versa. Sure Crysis is beautiful but I have no interest in it myself, I'd rather play T1 with it's aweful graphics.

actually,he played and enjoyed T1/2 and some FMs.Graphics have no matter, design and gameplay does

maybe T1 graphics (models, textures) are aweful, but level design is really great unlike some TDM fms

    2) There are many many many tiny little crappy Thief 2 FMs out there too and no one warns you before you download them, too!

yeah, but nobody recommend them as best FMs

Best community has best resilient troll too? Theoretical question!

Maybe a future ModDB award for 2012?

    You're gonna burn alright.

I think you should point your friend at the Top missions thread instead

the problem is people recommending bad missions

  11. Knock it off, Shadowhide. Your kind of trolling got old months ago, and you're nothing but annoying these days, and you're doing it on purpose. If your only source of pleasure is stirring up shit in internet forums, then please do it somewhere else. It's not ok to see each and every thread turn into a Shadowhide-Trolled-Here landmark just for kicks. Got me?

i'd agree with you if i were actual troll

i had reason to create such thread

Around year ago i was recommending TDM to IRL friend of mine.He is not the big fan of Thief series, but he agreed to get Doom3 and play TDM.

On the next day he said me something like that : "what the hell i were playing ?"

I was confused and asked him what he disliked, than he said : "it even looks worse than T2 fms, small and boring".He were playing Knighton Manor.Than i personally took screenshots from a good missions and beg him to give TDM another try saying how beautiful is it

here the screenshots i showed him :

    http://img16.imageshack.us/img16/7987/doom32002010504463971.jpg

He said that maybe he will play TDM again, but months passed and it didn't happen. He was frustrated because of BAD TDM FAN MISSION.

You guys may like it,but you don't know how pathetic is it if you compare it to T2

Thats why I created this thread

You may call me a troll or ignore my posts or rise up my warn status or whatever, but here is my point. Its not trolling
