Aha! Probably was drunk, lol.
Glad I'm not the only one who has a history of drunk-posting around here, heh heh. I wrote the most horrendously drunken PM to somebody that was like 2 pages long in a request to beta-test an FM like 2 years ago. Read it the next morning, most hilarious thing i've ever seen in my life.

I haven't made a 2nd run yet for 'high chaos' but I think theres a chaos indicator when you complete a level that tells you how your chaos is progressing. I don't think high-chaos mode would be hard to get myself into at all, except the non-combatants. It's natural FPS gaming instinct to want to shoot bad people in the back of the head when they're not looking, so that you can move back and forth freely without worrying about them anymore.
As much as I love stealth and ghosting and all that, it's still always an exercise in restraining my trigger finger. Too much Doom/quake/quake2 as a kid, I think.
That is another reason I love TDM. Even if I set no personal, or role-playing "moral" restrictions against myself, and want to knock someone out because they are annoying me and taking up my time waiting for them to move away etc etc, if they're wearing helmets or are just at a weird approach angle/distance/lighting, just trying to swing a good blackjack KO is risky to blowing the whole operation, and similarly with any armor vs arrows, so the game mechanics work as a second fail-safe check against my own instinct to neutralize the opposition.
You don't really get that even with games like Dishonored, because you can totally go magically-enhanced Rambo even if you screw up. But it makes going "high chaos" that much easier, and feels that much more natural to the gameplay.

One thing I didn't quite understand in series 1 is
why is Daenerys imune to fire and Viserys not? They are both Targaryen (they have dragons blood) are they not?
Been a while since I read the books or watched the series, but the way I read it is this:
Targaryens seem to have madness and crazy that skips around every few generations. They may be the weak links of the bloodline, and maybe don't have the magical dragon properties of the sane Targaryens. Or something like that. Could also be a property that only manifests very rarely and only at a certain age in some Targaryens, and is unrelated to the madness. I dunno. It's fun to think about though.

You may put your screenies into spoiler tags, sir.
did you manage to infer the FM ending out of the screenshot?!?!

I quit in the marketplace/public-square area on my first run-through months ago, due to performance issues, but now that I've built my "dream machine", I might give this another run-through. Glad to hear that another mapper has put in a solid use for moss arrows.

@Capela - I like this shot. Not a lot of ornamentation (yet?), but the architecture is great! But my favorite part of the shot is the purple light coming from a side corridor at the end of the hall. Very ominous, espeically if there was some shifting shadow shapes moving along it.

Don't be knockin' on Altered Beast, Diego. That game delivered!

the "epic battle" stuff really turned me off
you might want to skip out on the 3rd movie because I can almost guarantee its gonna be about 2 hours of The Battle of Five Armies, and the preceding dragon attack.

the added female character/elf/evangeline lilly to break the male dominance of the story. Tolkien wrote male centered narratives for a reason (not because he disliked women, but because the legends, lore & myths he liked and researched were rather male oriented), and this pc-marketing-crap makes me wanna vomit without even having seen it.
I'm not sure what you saw to get that reaction, but the only female in the entire 1st movie was a 2 minute scene with Galadriel in Rivendell.

Ok, I used the method as advertised. I'm pretty sure it works, for HoLS and Alchemist, I can only find a couple spots that bring down FPS from 60 to 45ish briefly for a second or 2. NHAT3 however still has plenty of solid 20FPS areas. I've changed the LOD settings a lot in the menu, and i've noticed I keep getting these console messages:
func_portal_xx: Opening portal due to lodbias 0.75 not being between 0.00 and 10.00
Replace the xx with a variety of values, with varying lodbias values between 0 and 10. Last I checked, 0.75 and 3.0 are between 0 and 10... is something wrong, here?
edit: I've floated near the treetops, and the LOD menu settings are definitely working, trees popping in and out and all that... I don't understand why this map performs so poorly unless its CPU related. I have an i5-3570K on default settings.

which version of the book has he put to film, there's the original version of the book and a rewritten childrens version of the book.
WTH are you guys even talking about?! Afaik the only edits in the new editions are lore edits to make the vague "in a galaxy far far away" references more accurate to the canon middle earth history. There is no such thing as a non-childrens edition...
Ok so I saw the movie. There was some hollywood junk, and there was some unnecessary history flashbacks. Everything else was awesome and gets ungoliant stamp of approval, even the most of the "new" material.
The 2 things I really hated:
The storm giant scene, and the Radagast portrayal and scenes, especially the bunny-sled.

Was playing some more with the boarding-party slugship on normal. @#(%ing rebel scout jumped to lightspeed while all my crew was onboard their ship. game over.

Ok I finally got around to trying this out, and immediately noticed that this whole thing can be done in NV control panel without the use of NVI, although it is a cool utility and I'll likely keep it.

Since 1.08, on startup, the console is absolutely riddled with warning messages about shaders having already been loaded and being overwritten and yadda yadda, to the point where the buffer that holds the console history is overrun before even loading an FM. I wish to see this relevant information that was lost, and get rid of all the warning messages.
I couldn't find any related cvar on iddevnet, so I must ask: How can I disable or prevent all the WARNING messages in the console?

- First, The Hobbit doesn't have three movies' worth of material in it. It is a compact book which refers to the larger events of Middle Earth without really following up on its references. It is all "but that is a different story". Bringing them in can only damage the integrity of the work. Bringing in crowd-pleasing hollywoodish elements will be worse. This is not a book that can work well as a trilogy.
I agree with most of this sentiment. If it were to be split at all, it should be in 2: Part 1 - There. Part 2 - Back Again. I really don't think the plan is doing cut-away 1000 year flashbacks to Beleriand or something to fill in histories. Hollywoodish elements is much more likely, but I haven't seen the first movie yet.
- Following from this, The Hobbit is not really the LotR precursor the interpretation is shaping up to be. It is not epic fantasy, even if it has its epic moments. It is a mixture of European myth and boy's literature (in the tradition of Swallows and Amazons, etc.). The released trailers show it has been filmed as an epic fantasy. The idiom is all wrong.
I disagree. In the Hobbit and LotR, Bilbo and Sam Gamgee (respectively) serve the perspective of "reality check" from the high fantasy element, which I believe Tolkien himself referred to as "gamgification". You are correct that it was geared towards being a children's story, albeit a 'high fantasy' one.
- Third, Hollywood can't make a good Hobbit movie because it can't think about myth, history and Europe in the ways Tolkien did
People are expecting a Peter Jeackson LotR prequel. I love the original book, but thinking a bit introspectively... I'm expecting and wanting the same thing as everyone else.

I've seen numbers lower than that in certain FM's on my 670 (did you get the Gigabyte version?), although the benchmark runs at about 200fps with all the TDM bells and whistles enabled. I will check out this fix.
edit: yea, actually I'm positive there must be something wrong. I checked out Sikkmod last week, and with every setting maxed I still couldn't make D3 run at less than 60fps with vsync enabled.

what is passing-by frobbing? something like a drive-by-frob (stealing lollipops from kids while sitting in a car driving-by the playground )
oh my god, somebody needs to pass this idea along to freddiew

Lol, TDM is also competing with an original DOOM mod that has more visitors in the past 9 months than TDM has received since it was put on moddb. Well, maybe we'll get an editors choice again this year...
edit: Then again, maybe TDM is more popular than I thought. Looks like 1.08 has 15,000 downloads from StrategyInformer alone since 11/01

I hope so. I really enjoy the world that they've built and they certainly have lots to work with. I'd even be up for Dishonored 2.
The back-story would certainly be conducive to a sequel, It wouldn't even need to take place on the Isles. Maybe a new story taking place
on the crazy jungle continent that the rat-plague came from?

Slug ship was the 2nd ship I unlocked, I must of got hella lucky. Then I focused all my efforts at getting 2 of the slug ship achievements to unlock type B.
So far I've unlocked 3 ships, and man, Zoltan type A is overpowered as hell. At least, in the early game. I like it better than type B. freakin Halberd beam can 1 shot almost everything in the first 3 sectors.
-
just bought this game the other day. Playstyles based on ship type vary dramatically. I'm running Slug Cruiser Type B right now in normal (read: really hard) mode. 3 slug crew, a crew-healing teleporter "bomb" (it costs missles every use), a transporter pad, and no med-bay. Its insanity.

I was laughing my ass off during that video, thinking "wow this joke is pretty good, with nice production quality". And then i found out it's real.....??!!?!

Man, all he lost was his coat during that crash. He's lucky that his ribcage didn't lose his torso.

VOTED
[...]any voting will be for 2nd place compared to Black Mesa mod.
more like for 3rd place to DayZ. ARMA2 is currently in 2nd place for "top game" on the scoreboard. I don't bear any grudge against either of those 2 mods. I've recently taken a liking to watching DayZ videos, and it looks like a great deal of fun. thinking about purchasing the standalone, and I hate zombie games.
Tis the season. If you haven't seen it yet, or just need a refresher:

Great looking stuff, Moonbo!! However, the helmet on that guard in the chair makes me tragically sad.
