  1. xbone $500 in Murica, £429 in UK + elsewhere. bwahahaha!!

I actually watched the e3 m$oft unveil live to see all the booing, but should have anticipated how they would stack the audience with m$oft employees. The only time you could hear the boos and jeers was when team m$oft were really obviously not supposed to overwhelm the event with applause, like when the BF4 demo was... extended.

In a related issue, I don't know if you heard, but the new mandatory always-on kinect can track eye movement, conversations, and what direction your head is turned to evaluate if you are paying attention to commercials (see the new kinect patents filed for details). If you don't watch your commercials like a good consumer, they get extended. So when the e3 audience attention-span started to wander, the demo-kinect saw this, and caused BF4 demo to malfunction, and take much longer than expected. So at least we know the new kinect is functioning to spec. har har.

  2. Serpentine was working on merging the dhewm branch of Doom 3 with TDM which would include EFX. It seems he's been absent from the forums these days but I presume he'll be back before the next release.

That'd be really great if he could come around and get that running. I can confirm OpenAL works quite well with Windows in TDM 2.0. I've got stereo, 5.1, and 7.1 sound working perfectly with it enabled. EAX seems to be the weak link. The EAX option even toggles off TDM's use of OpenAL when you disable EAX.

AFAIK, EAX really only currently works at all in TDM if you are using a Creative card. That's speculation though, and would need testing to confirm.

  3. I can see the spawnargs for splash (smoke) particles in func_liquid, but I can't find anything that determines which sound to play.

if you can find the one for walking in water as well, please turn that thing down a couple notches.

  4. Chances are they give 0 fucks at this point, and are just weening the people into getting used to being spied on and treated like criminals. TSA anyone? its right out there in the open. The publics reaction to this sort of junk is just a benchmark to gauge what can be gotten away with to what degree. Things will continue to get worse until the 'million man march' or something similar, where a line in the sand is drawn. Worst case 1984 style everyone keeps their mouths shut and starts giving up their neighbors and family for owning firearms, or holding private yardsales and selling a rocking chair. blah.

  5. Damn, I was looking forward to my family's reaction to the red wedding episode since season 2, and didn't have the foresight to videotape it like the others on youtube. GRR Martin said it best on Conan: "Now you know why your nerdy friends were depressed 13 years ago".

  6. I want the flashlight mechanics for TDM. AI can see the light without seeing the player, and go on alert, and investigate the area. It's buggy as hell though, seeing the light through walls and crap. safer to use nightvision when AI are around.

Probably wishful thinking. TDM would suffer the same buggy fate unless authors stopped using noshadows on stuff.

  7. i think it's likely they're going to hide their shamed faces for a while

Looks like I was right. The "in-game footage coming soon" part of the Thief4 city watch news thread on eidos forums was removed. Once again, don't expect anything at e3 or probably at all this year.

  8. I wonder what's their media plan. Like post on FB every 2 days till summer gamescon, then reveal gameplay video - another round of gamemag reviews... and so on

i think it's likely they're going to hide their shamed faces for a while. I've heard they're going to put something up at e3 in june, but if they're hiding the demo that they needed "all hands on deck" to make in 6+ months, and the results were so bad they can't share it with the rest of us, I think its pretty likely they'll be going back into hiding for another year or 2. 2014 release? not on your life. the next "media plan" will likely kick off around their proposed 'release date'.

God forbid squeenix cuts funding (pretty likely, considering the circumstances), they might even scrap the project and turn it into vaporware as many of us suspected it would be years ago.

edit: Also, kraftwerk is not english. its an old-ass electronic music band. I've heard of them, but haven't really checked them out.

  9. The news has once again stirred up ideas about purchasing the thief ip for TDM, haha.

I wonder, though, if nobody on the team, past or present, profits from a donation towards the project, would it be acceptable?? for instance, anonymous donor gives $50,000 to pay Stephen Russel for VA in Crucible. Nobody on the team gets paid out a dime of it. Is this acceptable?

  10. bendy pipes are easy. make cylinder. add vert density as required beforehand. grab a middle row of verts, rotate and scale them 45 on the appropriate axis, grab the rest of the verts on one side, rotate and scale 90. translate and snap to grid the result as necessary. make sure your 45 rotated verts on the bendy part are greens verts only unless you wish for a very sharp squared off bend.

  11. If they release anything for customization it'll likely be something stupid like the Absolution 'Contracts' mode. Something like kill restrictions, time restrictions, loot goals, focus restrictions, etc etc. Basically, player made objectives for the vanilla OM's with leaderboard statistics. Must be logged into EM servers as part of DRM package, + purchased with DLC for great justice.

  12. i can think of all kinds of stuff for your talents. splash screens for FM's, new map/gui parchment stuff, desktop wallpapers... it all contributes, whether in an 'official' capacity or not. everyone here playing on the same team.

And at least you actually did something with a result to show for it straight away, opposed to some(most) of the other would-be contributors that come up with elaborate, unnecessary grandiose plans that never see light of day.

  13. This is my latest fireplace that I've built for my mission. I don't know that I want to give this up as a prefab, at least not right away. If there's anyone that does want it for a specific reason then I'm sure I would be more than willing to share. Please ignore the walls, floor, and ceiling. Please note that handles for the cabinet doors (which I would be perfectly willing to share with anyone though they need some touching up atm) ;) Is my image too big?
