How to hard-lock a Linux box: step 1. Insert a scratched or dirty CD. Step 2, try to advance through songs. We have made 0 progress since the early 90s. Even the mouse pointer stops moving and you can't switch to a console!

The SSD and HDD are connected via SATA-II. The IDE port is used for optical drives, since there's really no speed boost in having SATA DVD drives (they're slow as dirt anyway). The ad I am talking about is on the page I shared above, not here.

... and if any of you feel that using an SSD on a SATA-II link is not worth it or pointless, let me just say that it is fast as hell.

It's more that IDE got phased out in favour of SATA so long ago, it makes me curious why you'd even still have IDE connections available. Doesn't matter either way, disc drives are slow as hell.
