Why web forums suck...

Just returned from a 7 day holiday, opened up this forum, had at least 4 pages of "new content". Made it past page 2 (to about June 03), and then had to take care of a few things here. When I came back, the forum had logged me out (timeout?), and when you log out, it forgets all "new content". So you log in, and it says "there is nothing new for you". Great, now I never know what I missed between May 30th and June 03.... grrrrrrrrr :(

With email, you would still have all unread messages *sigh* Is there a way to change this behaviour? It has annoyed me in the past, but not as much as this time..

Edit: It's even worse, there is "no new content", but when I go f.i. into the "off topic" sub-forum, it still shows me threads as unread that I definitely already did read an hour ago. So I can't even just look at all the "unread" threads. Oh boy...

Your Settings -> General Settings -> Search Settings -> View New Content Method.

Set to "Show me all content I have not read".

Uh, that's great, now it shows me all messages I have *ever* not read:

New content

There are 1369 new entries

There is no way I have time to read that much ;)

Btw, part of the problem seems to be that somehow I get logged out of the forum every few minutes - sometimes I even get logged out right after I logged in. I don't know what changed the 7 days I was not here, but before my laptop worked just fine with the forum. Haven't tried the PC yet, but maybe its a browser setting? Cookies or something?

Yeah, it's not much use when you first activate it, but after you "Mark all content as read" and check it periodically, it works better than the last-visit mode.

Yeah, done that now. (it took ages to compute the "new posts", too). Hopefully it works now better, e.g. it won't show me again posts I already read, and it won't start to log me out every 5 minutes, either (thank god for FF's password manager)

I tried to upscale the TDM logo video. First try:

briefing_video.mp4 You can test it ingame by making a copy of the core tdm_gui.mtr and place it in your-tdm-root/materials/ , then edit line 249 of that file into the location where you placed the new briefing.mp4 file.
What I did was I extracted all the image files, then used Upscayl to upscale the images using General photo (Real-Esrgan) upscale setting and then turn it back into a video.
I might have to crop it a bit, the logo looks smaller on screen (or maybe it's actually better this way?). My video editor turned it into a 16:9 video, which I think overal looks better than 1:1 video of original.

Trying to be productive on my down-time before Capcom releases Akuma and my son is constantly on my PC playing Street Fighter...

Finally got round to publishing a tutorial on baking normal maps in Blender, since most of the ones we have are inaccessible or years out of date.

The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )
