  1. Happy new year ! The earth goes around the sun, I think we can all agree on that. The moon, BTW, does not really 'circle' the earth, it's more a case of zig-zag's back and forth as the earth goes around the sun, which from our point of view makes it look like the moon is circling the earth. Mind you, the sun will not be standing still either, so I guess the same is true for the earth. Good point about the seasonal cycles, Maximus. If you want to go really wild, you could celebrate the sun's orbit around the milky way: http://www.chron.com/content/interactive/s.../ds/990602.html

Also it's a great ice breaker with girls.
  3. So ... any feedback? EDIT: 31/12/2005 18:00 - Final version has just been released.
  4. That game kind of reminds me of a zombie film I once saw!
  5. I've just published the BETA of the second release of an n-body newtonian gravity simulation SDK. You can create as many astronomical objects as you like and see how they react to each other's gravity. It's very basic stuff but fun non-the-less. If anyone want to have a look, the documentation can be found here and you can download it from here. Virtually all of the source code is included.
  6. Actually that's true, IF you want to install the whole lot in under a second.
  7. You mean the youngest wasn't born first?
  8. Windows® 2000 Service Pack 4, Windows XP Service Pack 2, Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/4c26cc39
  9. As XP SP2 is a pre-requisit for installing VC2005, I had to fight with my computer and with google to get XP SP2 running on my AMD64 computer. I would install SP2, reboot and the computer would not start up. Thankfully I found a website mentioning a patch which Mesh produced. http://www.cybertechhelp.com/forums/showth...30&page=7&pp=15 http://www.meshcomputers.com/downloads/sp2fix.zip
  10. I have no idea. The download page for Beta 2 is gone though. Thankfully that is not the case here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/support/faq/ But like I said, the software is only free for one year.
  11. It's a C++ compiler, a software development tool. http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/visualc/ BTW, for some reason they (still) haven't enabled the Platform SDK wizards by default, so this little guide still applies: http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/visualc/usingpsdk/
  12. You all prolly know this anyways but MS are letting you download VC2005 express for free 12 month use. I've installed it on my home computer and it's great. I'm glad to see that the DM is still going strong, love the new guards.
  13. Most of those articles are either about using existing COM classes - or they use MFC/ATL, or even the dreaded VC AppWizard, non of which I wanted to use. However, the article I've linked to in my second post is exactly what I was looking for - how to write your own COM class, including all the DLL registration and class factory code, without using MFC or ATL.
  14. Yes, but finding what one needs is not the same as finding 100's of pages which talk about the given subject.

  16. I've been looking for a good COM tutorial for a while now. This one is not bad: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default....msdn_house1.asp but it's very old and I can't find the corresponding example files. All I want to do is to create a few simple COM classes. Any suggestions?
  17. Oooo - I like our new home already.
  18. I thought RLE is only good if you have many pixels next to each other which have exactly the same colour values? Perhaps one solution would be to have compressed 'debug' versions of the textures in CVS while we are devoloping, while storing the original 'production' high res versions somewhere else.

  20. On holliday in Belgium I found a catholic church building which had some interesting features so I took some photos: brussel-church.zip (1.2MB)
  21. Which is why I like to make things optional. And if people don't like certain things being optional, then let's make the optionality optional !! The only way I know how to do that is to let the FM author decide certain things, such that they are only mandatory in some of the FMs.
  22. Items of value. Worth fighting over. Simple concept. Of course we are not there yet, but as soon as there is something worth fighting over, we can expect someone to do so.
