  1. great ... we don't want to use the wrong AI! right, ... dmap did fix ... well, I did turn off the autosave and am in the habit of CTRL + S after every everything, ... and copy every hour ... Do you think I should save more than the one copy? Save in stages? I feel guilty, ... I should be posting individual posts for my questions ... but I don't dare post one for anything that the answer is in the tutorial we haven't finished yet ... although the tutorial is technically 'what we are working on right now' so to speak ... MUST finish it! - DC .
  2. Your speaking terms that we have not yet reached in the Tutorial ... but I'm gonna keep an eye out for that type of function as we go through it! - on a differnet note ... I 'copied' the three rats from 'startmap' and pasted into my room and they are there and run around ... but it gives :AA Your rats are out of Date!" error .... are there new rats? here's a animated .gif to show my lighthouse painting: . On page two of Tutorial it calls for: RMB menu > Create Entity > darkmod > AI > Non-combat > atdm:ai_townsfolk_male1 I don't have a Non-combat dir ... I picked atdm_ai_townsfolk_commoner_1 ... is that roughly the same? He works pretty good! - I saw him eat some pills though ... I'm worried for him ... the three rats are moving my box around ... no errors after dmap, all looks good!

You can have two instances of DarkRadiant running at the same time, ... just launch it twice ... one with the map your working on, and one from which to copy from; ie I launch DR and open the map I'm working on, then I launch it again and open startmap, highlight a model, CTRL + C it, then ALT + Tab over to the DR running my map and paste it at the camera level .... Both of us up till 3:00 am customizing our 1st room ... we couldn't even get to step two of your tutorial because we were having so much fun just learning where all the goodies are and bringing them in ... We run 1920 x 1200 on 24" LCD's ... I do keep TDM running in a 1280 x 800 windowed mode. After I save, I ALT + Tab over to TDM and hit the a key which I bound to "map td/td" ... I also had fun with the red strobe making just the light in the lighthouse in a painting blink red on and off ... then I duplicated and changed the angle so it looks like the painting is shining it's red light out of the painting and onto the table near it ... creepy! - on to page two of Tutorial today!   5. i know ... ain't that sweet? I've been copying and pasting right from one to another and it works great for most standard items. Some, like potions , paste ok directly in to DR, but upon map refresh in TDM, they don't show up ... we're having fun ... it's going very quickly for us ... I feel we're frothing at the bit through this tutorial! - DC
  6. thanks! - I hadn't even thought about how important our XYZ need to match up. We'll use this method to start, and won't have to worry about alignment becasue we will have both started from the same hallway! ... thanks! I just notice that with 2 DR's running I can 'copy' from one map opened and paste into the other ... I just brought a whole pile of stuff into my map from the 'startmap' we DL'ed by having DarkRadiant running twice ... big time saver! - Darrin edit: I guess the copy & paste doesn't work on everything ...
  7. thanks! Jessica has all ready saved prefabs and imported ... will do on shortcuts ... I noticed the mention of a repository? Where we might find the arabic style vase? I have lightwave installed for .lwo's if needed ... She says she only found a few buildings and was wondering if there is an online repository of buildings like for RTC3? there is probably a better place for all of our newbie questions .... Darrin
  8. I was wondering about that .... can we work simultaneously, on the same map co-operatively and the same time across the network? Both updating the same file? Insert Prefab? ... ok, she figured it out as I typed this out ... Do you know how to make the shortcut to tilde so we don't have to CTRL + ALT + ~ ? Also, do you know how I can keep TDM running and Alt Tab back and forth? Here's the plan, we finish the tutorial and have it as Thiefs Den for TDM 1.0 (since the original won't run in this recent release?), and hope we're armed enough to re-develop and contribute our favorite, (and probably played many times by all, since it was the demo map ... ) a beefed up, TDM version of "Life Of The Party" ... but don't tell anyone .. it's a surprise ... I have to catch up to her ... she's all ready found industrial buildings ... and churches ... if she goes at this like she did Roller Coaster Tycoon 3, we'll be raiding the party very soon ... I'm only at the top of page two of Fidcals tutorial! - darrin
  9. Wife and I are both running DarkRadiant 1.0.2. ... Tonight page 2 and more of the Tutorial! Our first room and .xd file of 'thiefs den' are made ... and she (just this minute as I type this) has loaded up and is walking around in her 1st room, for the first time; looks great! ... a small but big step for us. We're learning DR together ... You people are amazing ... all of the screens look fantastic. being from the north, we love the snow too ... Sonosuke's shot looks great ... The arabic pitchers, SiyahParsomen's screens and Heart of Lone Salvation are really impressive ... Now I'm off to lay eyes on my first room in TDM ... Darrin
  10. oh thank you thank you! - Last night I got my feet wet with DarkRadiant 0.9.10 ... I did copy and 'paste to camera' more guards and loot in the outpost . . . Repacked the .pk4 with PakScape it and ran it, and there they were! - Tonight after Turkey, both wife and I are going through the tutorial ... Yes, there must be some type of entity in one of those .pk4's that DR don't like ... I have so many, and added so many so long ago that I can't remember which ones are default! And I no longer have the original Doom3 CD ... It's probably the Doom3 'DuckTape' mod/pk4 that gives the flashlight to all weapons in Doom 3 .... I would like to get the latest version of DarkRadiant running before wife and I go through tutorial ... All of my extra .pk4's EXCEPT game00.pk4 - game03.pk4 and pak000.pk4 - pak008.pk4 here: http://www.mainecust...s_Xtra_PK4s.rar I removed these .pk4s from my base dir: which left this in my base dir: I uninstalled 0.9.10 and deleted the DarkRadiant folder under C:\Documents and Settings\Darrin\Application Data , and then I installed 1.0.2 and got .... wait for it .... Thanks for helping me straighten this out! --- Do you think I have retianed all I will need in the /base folder? Any other files I might need or find handy? On to the Tutorials! - .... Darrin
  11. I conducted a test by installing the first version of DarkRadiant and it worked .... I worked my way up this list installing and un-installing until it gave the error on launch: http://sourceforge.net/projects/darkradiant/files/ I CAN run 0.9.10 without the hang/crash on the EntityClassManager ... but 0.9.11 and higher all give the error .... Can I still make FM's with 0.9.10? What is the difference between 0.9.10 and 0.9.11? Why would 0.9.10 work on my machine and 0.9.11 won't get past the EntityClassManager? Could all of this be caused by the additional .pk4 files I have in the /base folder? Which of these could I safely delete ? Could someone tell me what they have in their /base dir? Or if this really matters to DarkRadiant 1.0.2 ? - Thanks! - Darrin
  12. oh man, so glad your on today! - DarkRadient did not ask me for paths at all, ... immedialty after install(s) I double click on desktop shortcut and get error. The Doom3.exe I run is a NOCD .exe from GameCopyWorld .. I do still have the original Doom3.exe renamed as Doom3.ORIG if needed , but I think it asks for registration numbers I lost years ago ... probably in the box with the Origianl CD lost back at our first house ... can I edit a file to manually input the correct path? Should be default install: I did a search of C:\ which produced only the default 'user.xml's that are in the DarkRadiant install folders. When the 1.0.2 version of DR didn't work, I installed version 1.0.1, so the serach found two: I'm on the work side of a dual boot machine ... I'm going to boot back over to my 'play' partition and try it with the original .exe to see how that works ... I attached two of three files that I did find in "C:\Documents and Settings\Darrin\Application Data\DarkRadiant" they were .log, but forum doesn't have that extension set as acceptable, so I renamed .txt .... the third is darkradiant.pid at 0.0 kb ... I tried the original Doom3.exe but got the exact same results ... ____________________________________________________ I just installed the 64bit version of DarkRadiant on my wifes Dell 3.2 quadcore w/ 4 gig o ram / 8800 pro XP 64bit and although it DID ask me for the engine paths, it still hangs for a sec and errors out when it starts to initialize the EntityClassManger module ... same results, except my machine never asks for the paths ... must be something wrong with the copy of Doom3 we are using ... her Doom3 folder is just a copied version of my Doom3 folder, copied across the network ... thanks for helping me out! ...   13. I am amazed with TDM ... only one more map to play tonight, then I'm done, so I thought I might get serious about DarkRadiant ... On my Dell dual core 2.4 w/ 3 gig ram 8600 card on XP 32bit ... Installed vcredist_x86.exe Installed darkradiant-1.0.2.exe both went well ... Doubleclick on new DarkRadiant shortcut and get: Is it because of where I have Doom3 installed? Does it need to be in program files? Of course starting with the second double click on the DarkRadiant Icon I get this: Here is a look at my dir: I have also attached the user.xml the 2nd error refers to .. uninstalled, delete all local content, registry sweep and reinstall, same results ... I do have a seperate Doom 3 folder on my E: drive that is NOT patched up to 1.3.1.1304 , so that wife and I can co-op using LastManStanding Mod for D3. To get going with TDM, I created a folder: C:\Doom3 , and copied just the essentials over to it from my E:\Doom 3 ... ie: I left the following folders behind: saintlucia, opencoop, lms3, ... After that I patched up to 1.3.1.1304 and the rest is history ... loving it ... I can not stop taking screenshots ... now if I could just get going with DarkRadiant ... Any one seen this before and want to help getting a newbie going? - I have had success editing Thief 2 and SWAT 4 maps and levels, and I reskinned my TDS Garrett to have my face on him in the game ..   15. Oh yes, I'm a lucky man to have Wife who games, develops websites .... and a hottie too! So we did the whole training missions ..... took about 4 hours taking our time .... the archery range is very fun ... I never got bullseye on the fourth, but could hit the target aiming at the chimney on the roof behind it .... I could not believe the steep angle of the arrows that did hit the fourth target! All in all the training is fantastic! - so much to read ... I enjoy reading everything because I know that someone took the time to write it ... The physics when knocking out a guard are perfect ... he just slumps back exactly the way you would expect ... TDS has 'rubbery' physics sometimes. ... oh and so glad to drag a leg or arm or head rather than over the shoulder and slow .... I alomst leaned him up against a wall ... I would like to be strong enough to set him up like he was sleeping .... then instead of having to hide his body, if he was 'propped up' the other guards would think he was sleeping one off! Luckily I had the mind to rename the .zips to .pk4 and all went well after that, but there is no mention of the fact that you might have to rename the map files. FOV control? My res is so high, and my monitor is so large, and my eyesight isn't what it was ... I usually run my games at FOV 65 -70 .... No Thief goes thiefing with tap shoes on .... maybe a softer leather sound? It gets annoying when returning through 'safe' areas at a quick pace .... More later as we attempt to finish patently_dangerous! - Thanks again so much! .. .SO fun!

Wife and I have been gaming for a decade now ,,, mostly Co-op like SWAT, Doom3 w/ LMS coop mod, HalfLife 2, vegas 2 etc ... both of us have played many, many titles, but our hands down favorite is the Thief series ... although not co-op (although thievery is fun thief co-op) it's the gameplay and characters we love. From Karras to Marla to the guards, ... anyways, tonight is the night ... we both have TDM installed configured and ready to go! - I did just enough of the training level to know that this is the new Thief 4 ... only better because you guys remembered to put in all the good stuff! When TDS came out w/o a rope arrow, I was shocked! climbing gloves? eh .... ok, I guess so. Seriously, thank all of you for all of your hard work ... it plays smoother than TDS on my PC, 1920 X 1200 (thank you for allowing the wide screen res w/o having to edit an ini file!) 24 inch LCD's ... I'm dual core 2.4, 3 gig ram w/ 8600, running 8x, 8x she's quad core 3.2 w/ 4 gig o ram w/ 8800 pro ... 1920X1200 16X, 16X. We are avid thief fans, and have been bummed about the end of the line, but I've been watching this little mod grow into quite possibly the best game ever made ... I'm not kidding ... I can't WAIT until tonight after kids go to bed and we can play! - Choosing the Doom 3 engine was a PERFECT choice ... the enviroment you guys have created is just awesome. Despite how good it might make one feel, I probably can't bring myself to search for newbie posts, then make fun of their grammer, so I'll leave that to the pros . . . .
  18. probably a long time from now, huh? . . . man, I'm going through TDS yet one more time . . this time I edited the .dds to have my face be on Garret, . . . see av . . . . anyways, based on how long it's taken you to get this far, how long you think until the full release? - Also, I forgot to mention the menu screen is awesome, love the glowing the red mist and old scroll back ground . . . . very proffessional, better than some proffesional . . .but the load up screen with the chest, . . well, the shots ok, but the font is ehhh . . . . I like the font on the DarkMod logo, . . . also Did I read there was an editor available ?
  19. ok, . . . placed the note, . . . found the key under door, . . . made it out , then . . . end mission, . . . awwwwwww! Awesome, truly awesome . . . Total Thief look and feel, . . . but better? Definately better NPC models and outfits, and wall and wood textures are better in this engine then using John P's texture upgrade on TDS, . . . . I know I read that the voices were just place holders, but they were fine by me! Sounded just like an old garret would expect! . . . . and so were all the other background sounds ( loved the cat! - MEOW!) and the music was creepy and thiefy . . . . great sound . . . don't change a thing, even the loot pick up was same sounding, but different in a cool way. I guess just the green stream area caught my eye as Thief 2ish . . . But I saw down into some water somewhere , in a well? I just wanted to swim in it! Water looked great!. . . hats off to a job extremely well done . . . . the graphics are super, and the handling of objects is fantastic . . I love holding a candle, bringing it closer and farther away . . . same with the bodies when dragging, I like to grab 'em by the head then make em' slither like the grinch around the xmas tree . . . . . porting over to the doom 3 engine was worth it to have the fun in the enviroment, oh and to have rope arrows back! YES!! - THANK YOU! Finally! - . . . and honestly, We don't need a lock picking system built in . . . . it gets tiring after a bit, just make us find the keys, thats more fun that picking anyways . . . . Graphics - Thumbs up! Enviroment - Thumbs up! Stealthiness - Thumbs up! Gameplay - Thumbs up! Everything worked for me . . . Is this the new Thief 4? - felt like it to me! - I'll bet one could get enough Thief fans together to all pay $10 a month to pay for the full time development of DarkMod . . . seems as though there are still a lot of thiefers out there still looking for more . . . . speaking of looking for more . . . where's all the rest of the great looking areas I saw in the screenshots? - like the Abysmal Gale looking ship and Grave Yard (Screens by Pinkdot) or the Screens by Oddity, Dram, BlackThief, SneaksieDave, and all those great looking places to explore, . . . one place looked a lot like the docks, another looked like south quarter . . . . how do I get to those areas? - Are they different maps to download? - Is there some other type of demo to download? I saw some posts where someone said they had downloaded both this and another dark something to try? - Anyways, thanks again! - Darrin

I did a fresh install of Doom 3 using all lower case, no spaces [c:/doom3] , patched and installed DM and it runs SO smooth graphics cranked . . .I was thinking wow, this is Thief 4! . . but I got stuck, . . I got the 1st watchman, then roofed over to get the second guy w/ torch, made it in, founsd special loot and old rusty key, plus grabbed a key off one guy, but now I'm in an area with a ladder going up, small room with an elevator going down, and a door that is locked near a Keg, but I can tell it's where I should be going . . . . up, down or out the locked door? If so where's the key to that door? Mor3 later, gutta go shovel, then I'm back at it, what a great mod! -Your hard work is fantastic! - I'm putting screens up on my server later . . . . - Darrin
