  1. Thank you for taking the time to resolve this question. I appreciate it very much. I assumed that this question would have been answered a long time ago so I'm a little surprised to learn that I'm the first to ask this question.

But I answered your question several posts up.

The latest stand alone version has also had many, many performance optimizations to improve loading times, and frame rates.

Simple answer, please use the latest version..it is the most optimized and up to date version. Being an older system, well...you're mileage is going to vary in terms of performance as many newer FM's truly push the limits in terms of size and draw distances.

The game engine optimizations contribute to higher framerates and shorter loading times. Performance improving optimizations = less resource intensive game engine. :( As I and others have pointed out though, individual missions will vary based on their size and complexity.

The performance improvements are generally outlined in our update announcements.

  2. What I really want to know is what version, the old Doom mod, or the new stand alone version draws more system resources. That's really the question in its entirety.

    1. The old version is severely outdated. Severely!!! There have been massive improvements to the Mod since then. Some FM's may appear to work, but I can guarantee you that they are not going to play in the manner intended by the author, as the AI, sound, and many other systems have been seriously overhauled. There will also be resources like 'audio, textures, models, etc...' that will only be available in the latest version.

Settings can definitely help. Sorry to harp on this again but 'please' do not play the old version. If you were to have issues completing an FM, there is no way for us to provide any support since you would be on an outdated build.

    Hope that helps.

  3. Why do you appear to take everything I say to or in relation to you as confrontational?

Uhm, I think you're the one taking that comment as confrontational, lol I didn't read that as confrontational at all, but rather as 'go for it, and we can all learn'. Seriously, it's time to put those feelings aside and move on. Don't jump to conclusions. If you're having doubts about a comment, ask privately, rather than publicly.

  4. They are different games, but the influences are definitely there. I wouldn't call Dishonoured a simulation, like Thief. It will give you Thief vibes though, for sure. Grab it.

  5. I skimmed through both articles and didn't see any info about what happens after being greenlit, which is what we're talking about now. It's all the legal stuff they drop on you after being greenlit. It would have been helpful to have an official outline from valve before submission, before paying the submission fee. At least that way everyone knows what is expected and whether or not they even want to form a legal entity.

  6. Well, a quick Google search brought up this: https://partner.steamgames.com/

Ah, stupid me, i see now that it seems like you really have to be registered, and greenlit first to be able to access it. Well, that's weird. Thought they'd be interested in people informing themselves before they Greenlight.

Submitting to greenlight and having people vote for you is one thing. After being greenlit, Valve reveals all the legal crap...so yeah, it all came as a surprise. Hopefully it is something that works with TDM.

  7. Moonsneaker don't know if this is the case, but i most tell you the idtech 4 (the TDM engine) rigid body physics don't behave the same has PhysX or Havok for example, is a simpler system so objects behave in a somewhat unrealistic way by design, but again don't know if this is what you are seeing.

I don't think it's anything like that since they're reporting a change in behavior after the update.

  8.

:P the issue I was having is that we've had the honest critique, several times now. It's time to move on and stop beating this dead horse, but it's back again this morning.

    Let's Move ON! :)

I know, but being a message forum it is often too easy to take away a negative from almost any statement. Just trying to help keep things in perspective. Everyone here has the mod in their best interests.

Also, I think it's extremely important that everyone fully understands and is on the same page about this. The Square Enix forums drive me crazy with this kind of stuff, talking about Viktoria here, where I've had posts edited for no logical reason. I can't remember exactly what it was, but I had a link removed from my post once for ..er, I think it was sharing something that was a copyright infringement, but she hadn't even checked the link and it wasn't infringing on anything. Didn't ask me to remove it first or even inquire as to whether it was illegal, just gone.

Best practice is to ask first, make edits later. :) Right? haha

  9. I don't think there is anything wrong with offering an honest appraisal guys. Just because of recent blow ups, lets not discourage nor be afraid of letting people offer honest critique. I don't see anything offensive in Judith's posts. It's stuff that is very good to know moving forward. Does it suck we didn't have more hands on deck to catch that stuff and tweak things before release? Sure, but we know that changing everything now would break any existing work. :( It would be a terrible mess to clean up, even this soon after release....especially for poor Spring as I'm sure A New Job relies heavily on the modules.

  10. Hi 2 questions about this update.

    1) Does it require a more demanding rig? (due to new assets and such)

    2) Does food heal health? (It was broken before)

    Thanks.

    1. I don't think it should require a more powerful rig due to the new assets. As indicated in the release notes, there have been updates to improve performance. So hopefully you'll see improvements there.

    2. I don't know.

  11. Just a curiosity, whats the limit here, where are you guys willing to go to make TDM run on low PC's? Does a computer that even struggles to run Doom 3 should be considered as a minimum target for this game? Specially for missions?

Just asking because this IMO has serious implications on the size, graphical complexity of the missions and on the probable future evolution of the engine.

If a PC struggles to run Doom 3 then it's never going to run TDM due to the additional load AI, sound pathing and lightgem computation put on the system. I would say that if someone has an 'older' system that runs Doom 3 with all the bells and whistles, then they should be able to run TDM half decently. They're going to take a hit though, no doubt.

  12. What I've noticed when playing 'A new Job' was that if I set ambient rendering to simple, I got a performance boost of up to 20%, but couldn't see any difference optical (but that may only be me). I guess especially people with old graphic cards may benefit from that, as the simple ambient method isn't occupying the shader units.

Yeah, you shouldn't see much of a difference visually. The bump maps may appear slightly more flat, but other than that it should be pretty consistent. We should be making sure people are trying the the non-enhanced settings before suggesting the deeper settings since I noticed the game ships with the Enhanced Ambient by default.
