  1. Thx for the link to this thread.

Inspired by the great looking shots of "crucible....." I decided to

make a possible little ambience sound -loop for sneaking through the streets

or climbing over the rooftops or what ever a thief does in a enviroment like this  .

If you like it, I can do more of this stuff.

    https://soundcloud.com/mj-ilion/dark-ambience_1/s-fIo4K

The high frequencies has been cut, so the enviromental sounds can be heard better.

( lockpicking, footsteps, voices, dialogues, etc. )

I can do longer or shorter loops on demand.

At the moment I`m composing a peace of gothic rock

for an action or key-sequence and a spooky waltz for another wired moment or cutscene, if it occurs.

  2. Some time ago I read something about a TDM-Campaign.

    Whats the status ?

Is there something I can do ?

    Testing, make music....something?

Will there be cutscenes ? Possibly created by Springheel?

I would like to see his drawing style in the game. :D

  3. It's a bit of an abstraction, clearly. We adopted it primarily to stick close to Thief gameplay, although if we were starting over from scratch I think I'd push for a more realistic footstep model (where surfaces made noise based on how noisy they are, not how hard they are).

    Agreed!

I think, the basic boot-sound has to be `defused`, so that the boots clatter is not that dominant. Thats only for the immersion! I don`t know if the AI makes a difference between loud and soft steps.

I feel more comfortable with silent boots if I perform a heist. :D

    F.e. :

If the thief would wearing quietend boots, fresh cleaned floor tiles (in castles, museums, chaples, banks) would`nt be much of a problem for him. You would only hear a very light(!) and smoothly sound.

On more dirty grounds ( old crypts, ruins, caverns) you hear the same light sound and scraping sounds (because of sand & dirt).

If the floor is wet ( possibly puddles) you hear the same incl. a slight `splash`.

Out in the woods you would only hear sometimes breaking branches and old leaves.

What really give cramps to the thief are wooden floor tiles, because they react on his weight and squeak, regardless of wether he is wearing shoes or not.

And wooden floor tiles are pretty common in medieval buildings :-)

@jtr7: This only slows down my step speed. Not the volume.

  4. Am I the only one who thinks, that the thieves steps are too loud, especially on floor tiles or floorboards?

Just in the mom. I`m sneaking through the museum in the "vengeance for a thief2: TAOR.

(@SIRTAFFSALOT: Bytheway: I really love it.)

And while I`m sneaking I think: "Am I wearing high heels? :-)". Never noticed that before...mmhh..

I promise you:If I would be the thief , the first thing I would do, right after bundling my equipment, would preparing

my boots with felt or special tanned leather so their sole would not produce that harsh sounds.

In TDM my boots are producing the same sound as the guards heavy boots are doin.

The thieves boots-sound is too hard. This is the sound you`re producing, if you wearing cheesy italian shoes :-P .

    Happy new year!

    --michael--

  5. @kyyrma: I couldn`t agree more.

    @sotha: I`m a music-instructor (music&drums) and in ongoing communication with my scolars. My girlfriend (wife @14.04.2014 :-) ) is

working in an orphanage. SO: Yes! kids definetely got a lower attention span. And some fo my scolars ask me if I know

this game in which we could be a thief " Thie4f! Woaow! Cool. And if the guards see me, I can kill them ."

What do you think, I´m telling them? :-/

They really like the " big red arrow "-thing. For them it`s kind of normal to be guided through a game ( I HATE THIS, but should I tell them? If I would do, I`m the pooper...)

So. Yes! unfortunately = These are the signs of the times.

Good thing is, that the TDM is old -fashioned :-))))

  6. @nbohr1more: yep. It`s prettymuch of a victorian setting, but it would fit great into the "steam-medieval"-setting .

It was the combination of different eras, which make the Thief-series so special.

Remember the bank in T2 ? It was victorian too .....mmhh...kind of. ;)

If there will be a campaign in the furure, it would be great to see different towns: smaller medieval villages in the peripherie and capital citys which are showing

more electricity, possibly a victorian touch (not TOO much -> medieval rulez) and more technological progress with steam valves, robots, more electric lights

which cannot be extinguished by water arrwos, so some heist will be much more difficult.

    @ developers/mappers:

Bytheway: I would implement some missions where the protagonist ( let me call him G. ;) ) has to check out the path to some loot during the daylight,

because there are none plans existing for alternative ways, patrol routes and so on. Te task is would be to avoid the guards because they know you and don`t like you.

    They find G. suspicious.

And then in the night, after G. has outlined his own plan, same route, but now MUCH darker.

    G. now can perform his heist. This would be a nice gimmick showing a village/city with more people (some of them greeting you, because G. got a live, even during the day), markets, ( possibly G. is witnessing a public execution , something like that to show the extreme savagery of the government ) .

With this gimmick the gamer can experience the same gamelevel twice without beeing bored. An it will bring more depth to the campaign.

And different weather-conditions (storm, snow, etc )

P.S.:And I would love to see ships and a submarine in the campaign...uuupps....this already exist <_<

    ok..so much for inspriration :D

  7. It`s not only the question of the capability, it`s the question of "are you willing to fight?". Yep. I am. But not in the DM.

And if the emphasis will be more on fighting and killing, I will stop playin the DM.

As long as it`s an option and no must, i`ve got no problem with it.

  8. This is not Thief. This is "Corbo is flat, so know he`s up for stealing / Dishonored II ".

"the tools we give you are not only agressive: theyre also used for the stealth aspect." "....modern audience of today`s console market"

    That says it all.

    Yeah. The XP-system has been great:"Headshot +50 / Dead cat +1000 / step into some doodie -100 / failed to jump -250"

As far as Iknow they have removed it. But not sure.

  9. The toilet thing is THE thing I love most. It`s a little but, yes, unpleasant detail typical for the middle age.

Yes. Those things exist. If it comes up to dumping the ...mmhh..bodily waste...there are al lot of interesing things

I could post here, but I dont want to mess up ur appetite.

    But..wait..it`s fun..so yes..here it comes.

There`s a castle, close to where I live

    http://de.wikipedia....ki/Schloss_Burg

    http://commons.wikim...Burg?uselang=de

They`ve throw their doody simply down the wall into the castle moat. And guess what: Every approx. 100 years they have to leave their castle because of the

pestilence-like smell and YES the moat where full ..puhh.. . Then after a while, when all the ******* have dried and the smell was gone they returned and it repeats from the top.

I want to see more of this unappetising details. :-)

And it shows by the way the different lives of being a servant or a an aristocrat. I think it`s no fun to despose other peoples **** with a shovel :-/ .

This in combination with the submission-letter makes it even more fun for me to steel all I can carry :-)

I`m looking forward to play a whole castle designed by kyyrma!

(by the way: I didn`t even have to blackjack any guards. nice mission-design and realistic patrol-behaviour..thx again)

  10. @springheel:

    1. Nope. But i would if the only purpose of the bow would be killing enemys, instead of shooting moss-,water-,gas- and all the other tricky arrows. The bow is essential for the DM-gameplay. The sword IMHO isn`t.

    2. I must admit the monster-thing is different. Those are the only enemies, I fight with the sword, if the game want me to do that. (spiders)

    3. It`s not one of the game exciting moments fighting the guards with the sword. Avoiding the conflict, sneaking behind, blackjacking and last option: RUN ( if a escape-route is known ). IMHO :D

    @Sotha:

1.& 2. Yep. It`s a game. I only come up with the realism thing, because im worried about, that fighting/killing will be a bigger part inside the DM.

If I want 100% realism i wouldn`t accept a game in which I can sneak 20 cm besides a guard without being spotted or crouch through catacombes stuffed with zombies :D .

Hopefully no one comes up with ideas like " Hey. hows about QTE`s? I really like them . And finishing moves." *sic* .

Every player got it`s own point of view when it gets to realism in games.

The best way to satisfy all the players (pacifists & fighters) is with different difficulty levels:

    easy:

    1. loot 100

    2. no one stands in your way . Feel free to kill guards if nessessary.

    medium:

    1. loot 500

    2. steal the braclet from lady X´s Neck while she sleeps.

    3. Feeld free knocking the guards but don`t kill anybody.

    hardcore:

    1. loot 1500

    2. steal the braclet from lady X´s Neck while she sleeps and

deposit it in the drawer of Earl Y to bring him into disrepute.

    3. Don`t be seen by any guard

    4. Don´t Blackjack anybody

    5. Don`t kill anybody

    6. Escape thorough the tunnels

    ...something like that..

  11. @wGarrettw Not every thief is ill trained at combat. The prepared thief would have a shortsword to defend themselves if caught without a good escape route. I think that an 80 cm, 3 pound short sword is the least of a thief's worries when carrying a pack full of 3000 gold!

In my teens, my friends and I played a game called Ninjas and Guards in a gigantic barn in the fields nearby our homes. Our weapons were padded and only weighed maybe 2 pounds (not sure how long they were, but they were definitely sword length), but we were still able to sneak with them(a leather sheathe without metal bindings would be ideal for sneaking). In this game there were plenty of times that I got caught, and my sword saved me when backed into a corner where a dagger would have been useless to me.

I said it before. Different players have different preferences and playstyles. Some of us thieves are decent fighters just in case. Improved animations would be appreciated by those of us who aren't screwed if a guard sees us.

I'm all for the addition of a dagger for those thieves who cannot fight.

I understand your point of view, yes.

    But. mmhh..no:

A dagger isn`t for thieves uncapable of close cambat. It is used by thieves, which are know of the dangers possible, but want to

avoid them at every cost. more as a tool. At least the DM should be one of the last games if not the last game, where fighting is no option.

In my opinion It is a vital part of the game to scout for a possible escape route.

If there are people wanting magic and fighting and stuff, than they should buy Dishonored, a game which shows many options and possibilities

but none of them is 100%. It`s a compromise which rewards more the fighting type of players.

A good game is like a good beer: It`s not everybodys taste.

  12. Thoughts about swords in DM in general:

For my opinion a Thief is not wearing a sword.

A dagger would suffice. A thief has to be agile and fast.

He has to climb and crouch. !Jumping & SNEAKING!

Is there anyone out there who has tried wearing a sword with up to 80 cm in length (approx. weight up to 3 pound)

and crouch, sneak and climb through rooms which are stuffed to the death with furnitures, vases, candelabra?

You don`t need that much fantasy to imagine how complicate the (silent) movement will get.

Dont forget the bow on the back and the arrows. And the potions at the belt.

Its not only uncomfortable. It`s too loud and exhausting to carry

And by the way, our thief is not a fighter. Avoiding fights is one of the vital "USP`s" of the real sneaking games like DM.

For spiders and other little fellas a dagger is way enough.

So the last thing i would worry about are any fighting animations ;) .

If a guard see the thief, he`s screwed. Thats the way the cookie crumbles :D (at least for thiefs)

P.S.: The thiefs weapons are the abilty to pick every lock, padlock and using tricky arrows. Évtl. looking through keyholes.

Sneaking, hiding in the dark. Using his smartness and his ability to think outside the box.

And last but not least the completely undependence of any religion or politics :-))

Thats what makes him the ultimate rogue.

If I´m spotted by any guard I do not attack him I load the last save, because i failed B)

  13. Yep. It`s real. [ http://en.wikipedia..../Sedlec_Ossuary ].

    The ultimate "haunt"-level.

A similar place are the catacombes of paris. [ http://en.wikipedia....acombs_of_Paris ]

I don`t know if you people need even more ( :D ) inspiration and templates for building- and townconstruction.

So i did a a little collection (google picture search-results)

of german places ( towns/ cathedrals ), which are "authentic" and don`t have been bombed out throughout WW2 or are completely restored.

I love medieval places, which is an essential requirement playing the TDM ;) .

  14. I'm on the first mission and I'm at the

cathedral. I've gone in three times and three times the mission's frozen on me but at different spots. Once was heading to the back stairs on the right (as you enter), 2nd time I made it past that spot and was in the middle of the walkway above and looked towards the hall area and the third time I made it past the first two spots, down the front stairs and was just heading into the hall and if froze again. Each time I was eventually returned (or able to return) to the main menu.

Has anyone else had this problem? Did I miss an update? Don't really want to skip it as there's

    loot in there. :D

    I got the same problem.

Sometimes @ the hallways. Sometimes in the middle.

It seems that not everybody steps into that error.

The rest of the cathedral-level works fine.

    (I`m running DM 2.0)

This is one of the greatest FM`s I played so far.

    Thank you very much.

It would be nice, if that bug can be fixed, so I can l00t

    the cathedral ;-)
