  1. Some people feel ripped off because, I'll say it again, many people like myself have non steam versions of the game, I've bought the disks and a GOG version, I've paid SE twice for the game already and don't intend to give them more money for the same game just to play the mod. That's the internet for you, people feel aggrieved about something and make a point of saying so, meh, get over it, it doesn't matter that the mod was free, the devs built up expectation for eight years for Revision and then in many peoples minds they were let down by a steam only release, so yeah, not surprisingly, a lot of people were pissed. Eight long years in which time the devs had more than enough time to ensure the mod was compatible with steam, GOG, etc, from the first day release, but choose to only use steam versions of the game because as others have said, it's obvious that they were under pressure from SE to only use steam, if they didn't like that arrangement then they should have backed away from the deal with SE like the devs of The Dark Mod did when they were in a similar situation, Why, because they complain about having already bought a game and don't want to buy it again just to use a mod, what is so severely wrong about that? No one forced the devs to make Revision and I'm sure they were well aware that a steam only release would piss a lot of people off and expected some criticism, which they got, I doubt they were surprised by it.
  2. Yep, as I said 'Don't think a lot of people care', especially when you have already bought at least one copy of the game (two copies in my case) and you are expected to buy another just for a mod, you can say that the devs are being ripped off but a lot of people think that they are the one's being ripped off with only a steam release and are not prepared to give more money to SE for the same game.
  3. I know just what you mean about all sounds being linked, I got the Thief-2 drones down to an acceptable level and can still hear footsteps and guards dialogue, I know it's meant to set an atmosphere but I would rather play with no music given the option, to me it's just an irritating noise, apart from that I'm enjoying my first play through.
  4. So much hate at the Revision devs don't think a lot of people care, someone posted this on GOG, don't know if it's true but it really annoyed a lot of people and that encourages those with the skills to make a non-steam version of Revision and bundle it with DE just to piss squenix off, the devs won't disobey SE, probably in fear of them pulling the mod from the web / issuing a cease and desist. Maybe SE don't like GOG, although they do sell DE-1-2, because surely if SE allowed GOG and all sellers of DE to host Revision then they would sell a lot more copies of DE, steam may have the monopoly on game sales but it's not the only company, customer loyalty works both ways, some game companies just don't seem to care if they piss off their past and possible future customers and are only interested in the fast buck, if you want to reduce people pirating your game then it pays not to really piss them off.
  5. Some people who bought win7 have switched to a pirated copy which uses some kind of activation that is not recognized by all the win10 update garbage, so they are not having these problems, I can understand why! The latest MS intrusion: 'Microsoft begins advertising on the start menu in windows 10' No matter how often the likes of MS say 'Apps and programs can be turned off' I'm still very sceptical for the simple reason that MS know that many people will turn off things they do not like if the option is there, so the 'off' button actually does nothing!
  6. The BBC is to stream live coverage of a major e-gaming contest for the first time, BBC Three will show highlights of the quarter-finals of the League of Legends World Championships on its website. The event, at Wembley Stadium next week, will be presented by BBC Radio 1 DJ Dev Griffin. I've never played League of Legends so I'll have no idea what's going on but the 2014 opening ceremony is quite impressive, if you are not in the UK then you will probably need a vpn to access the bbc website to watch the highlights but the live final is on bbc TV live, although they might repeat it on bbc iplayer.
  7. The irony, the release of a "free" mod is used to try and extort more sales of a game about corporate and political conspiracy
  8. Well, that didn't take long, but why release the mod on moddb as it seems that it's the steam mod and needs some tweeking for non steam use, is it an official release to moddb, think I'll get it quick in case it's pulled!
  9. Yeah, doesn't 'authorizing' have the same implication as 'endorsed', if you authorize something then surely you must have endorsed it? Can't complain at 99p for DE GOTY on steam but I have an aversion to steam, they just have too much of a monopoly and control over the game d/load market for my liking and when I had an issue with Portal trying to get a reply and help from them was a very frustrating procedure.
  10. Yes it will, I have the GOG version, it seems a bit cheeky to use moddb to publicize Revision and only release it on steam, it rather smells of Square Enix trying to boost steam sales of DE games, you can't really blame them as it's their IP but it's damned annoying.
  11. Thanks for clarifying that, obviously, changes to the gameplay are very subjective, the only gameplay mod I've used is BioMod (based on Shifter) which is primarily concerned with Deus Ex's augmentations, with the aim of making them more balanced, but also easier to manage as most augs are now automated using energy only when they're actually working, I don't want to make the gameplay easier which some mods can do, if Revision doesn't change gameplay and incorperate similar features to BioMod, I hope it will support BioMod? I agree that most people that criticize the modders have no idea what goes into making a mod, I have modded Skyrim extensively over the last two years with mods from the Nexus site, many people hate the Nexus site because they are quick to ban anyone that insults a modder, sure you can offer constructive criticism but the mods are free so if you don't like it, STFU and leave, no one is forcing you to use it. How the hell did I miss GMDX! I will try it sometime but as Revision is only a few hours away I'll try that first.
  12. I understand what you are saying, but, I do expect quite a lot from 'Revision' because it's described as, Frankly, if Revision doesn't make a big difference, then what's the point of it? I posted in the Revision thread (http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/17224-deus-ex-revision/page-3) about the three DE mods I installed and what a big difference it made to the game, from what I understand 'Revision' will achieve all that those three mods achieve and more as it also overhauls the soundtrack and some new level design, sure, some DE purists might not like it but I'll happily try it if it improves how DE runs and looks on modern PC's, the biggest problem I have is that there are now mods for so many older games that I don't know which game to play next, I know, such a first world problem
  13. If it's that busy now, hopefully, they will have the d/load mirrors sorted on the first day or their server will crash and burn.
  14. Been checking the site everyday for ages.
  15. The night scenes look amazing, you have to question the mindset of people that do such things but I guess it becomes the norm for them and they feel comfortable doing it, I don't believe they have a deathwish but there are relatively speaking, safer ways to get your fix, at least base jumpers have a chute. I don't like heights but wingsuit flying looks absolutely amazing. Some people say motorcycles are way too dangerous and they would never ride one, especially on the road but I've been riding nearly forty years and to me it seems sublimely safe compared to what those climbers do and watching a bike race like the TT riding at 180mph down narrow country lanes always looks far more dangerous than it feels when you are doing it, all about your comfort zone.
  16. Hell of a way to go to work, not scared of heights are you? (I get vertigo on a swivel chair!)
  17. Sure is subjective, I thought it was Monty Python
  18. Thanks for your comments, I have managed to reduce the droning sound so it's not so loud, my Hyperacusis is probably exaggerating the sound, but I don't really understand the relevance of the sound in the level, yes, it's The Metal Age but does it need a bell type drone ringing all the way through the level? Hopefully the sound will not be so much of an issue in the rest of the levels.
  19. Playing T2 for the first time, the 'Framed' mission, and there is a continual droning sound like a bell, that gets too loud in some areas and is very annoying, (I have chronic tinnitus and Hyperacusis, hyper sensitivity to some sounds that causes pain so it might just be me) but the sound is linked to the main volume and not ambient sounds, so if I turn the volume down I can't hear the enemies, are there individual sound files in the game and could the offending sound file be removed? sound can be heard from the beginning.
  20. Do you mean an OS upgrade or a hardware upgrade? Any major hardware changes such as GPU or motherboard will probably cause driver issues with the old image, been there, done that, although you might be able to install new drivers and get way with it if windows doesn't complain about new hardware.
  21. OK, I think I'm getting the general impression of 'Thief', as much as I like a good looking game, (I've been playing/modding skyrim for two years and bought a GTX780 so I could use an ENB mod which can make the game look stunning and actually play the game at an acceptable framerate) but it's got to have the gameplay as well and I hate being led through a game on a set path. I guess the review videos I watched were the few that didn't really hate it, I have many games to play so I think I'll be giving Thief a miss, thanks for the input
  22. I only started playing the Thief games in the last few years and some how I managed to miss this new remake of Thief, the game looks good and is very configurable which should make for many different play through scenarios and replay value, after watching a few review videos it seems the game was generally well received but I wondered if anyone here has played it and their thoughts on the game?
  23. Just how can MS screw up so badly, with all the people working there you would think someone would have noticed which makes it look all the more suspicious! Personally, I always turn off auto updates, (win7) I use a program called 'wsusoffline update' which d/loads, stores and installs updates offline, the updates I use are about six months old and not the latest but I don't have any issues with win7 not being up to date, I use FF not IE so don't need that updated and as for all the so called 'important/critical security patches, using Comodo av and firewall suite I have never had a security/malware/virus issue and after recent privacy issues with win10 I'm not convinced that all windows updates are for my benefit, so I have no intention of updating win7, I have a system image of win7 with updates and use that for a fresh install, nice and simple and no waiting hours for updates to install.
