  1. Here it is. Use it well, young one. I hope you don't need it UV mapped, because you are not getting it UV mapped. ThiefMedium.ASE
  2. great work the only part I don't like is the head. IMO hammerites normally don't wear helmets. 2nd I miss the typical collar. both, hammerites and mechanists had a collar. I'm not very skilled in doing concept sketches, so I photoshoped my suggestion :
  3. Bah, you and your ZBrush. I really want a copy of it, but I insist on keeping everything legal, and I am not particularly wealthy. It'll probably be next on my list of things to buy, when I am overloaded with expendable income. What format you want?
  4. I don't think it's a wise idea. Not only does it get tricky handing out the money (if any), it also seems a little unprofessional. At the very least I would wait until we have some serious stuff to display.
  5. If any money were to come, I would not take a share, I don't really need anything.
  6. Hmmm....not sure exactly....and then to split up the blood money, erm...fund, between team members would be trickificationising.
  7.!!!! Renzatic ~ You sound like a seasoned veteran at this. Is there something we should all know?? PS: Fingernail - It might be worth a shot, eh? More seriously, of course. We could put links up in this forum and the DarkMod home page. And not just to go toward digital tablets or whatever, but the project in general. I'm sure we could all use a something, whether it be a video card, RAM, speakers, art books, digital camera, or whatever. No matter how big or small the donations, if any were to come, it'd be helpful for the project, I'm sure. Don't expect anything to come, though -- these things usually don't work. Do you think it would alienate our fans?
  8. That'd be cool! We could be like, "Please help a fellow Thief game lover. Our starving DarkMod artists need your support to not get carpal tunnel syndrome whilst making this mod for you." j/k
  9. I unfortunately found out the digital pen/tablet I want is like $450. LAME!!! That won't be happening for a while. Unless we could make it a 'DarkMod business expense' LOL. Just kidding. EDIT: FYI, my concept sketches will sometimes show 3 or 4 different things on one image. For instance, the 3rd pic down from the top -- with the guard walking, a window on a wooden wall and a street lamp -- shows 3 different unrelated things that I drew on one page. It's not supposed to be one continuous scene Just thought I'd clarify before someone accuses me of 'lack of continuity' or asks 'why does it go from stone to wood.'

    Pick! Me!

The reason I am so excited about helping out with this project is because I love the Thief series its one of my favorite, I have played the first 2 several times! But I haven’t kept up with the series since then, just haven’t had the time to play many games, all work and studying to get in to the game industry. I would prefer not to post to some free art archives, like deviantart after carefully reading there user agarments, they can retain the rights to uploaded works. AKA it now belongs to them! I will have a host soon, and will try to display as much of my work there as is possible. Till then I would like to start on some Concept Sketches of Environments. Then after you approve of my ideas I will Model, Texture & Normal Map all the recourses needed for sed environment. (design before you implement right?) Then with the peaces of a map in hand I could design a level or 2 or 3 using the assets. To help me better understand what your project needs: Are adventurer(the Thief)’s desire for wealth leads him to loot Ancient Ruins and raid Dens of Evil Creatures. Or duss the hero have other motivations? Have areas already been decided on, or should I just make a place up? Do you have a story I should try to follow with my concepts? What creatures have an influence on this environment? Hum built it and why? Ext… If there is already a design in place pleas give me what information you think would be helpful in making concept for you as a test to prove my self. Thanks for giving me a chance to help with this project. Regards, Maus

    Pick! Me!

I have more art examples then what you can see at my VCL archive, the problem is I have no place to up load work at this time! Yes I like the Japanese styles of art but if you look at: http://vcl.ctrl-c.liu.se/vcl/Artists/Maus/...ptsSketches.jpg I think you will see I can do just about any stile that is needed. The problem with the VCL archive is they have content restrictions on the types of art that can be uploaded: only Furry Art. This stuff is more of my hobby art it’s like my favorite pastime (other then being a pervert, lol). If you don’t think I can pleas test my skills and ask me to drawl something for your project. As fare as modeling and animating go I am not as experienced but I assure you I am very good with sculpture: http://vcl.ctrl-c.liu.se/vcl/Artists/Maus/...01-by-date.html and 3D modeling. As I have mentioned I have no place to up load this stuff. I could send an email with some other art and 3D models if you want to see what I am capable of. I will have to spend some time at home scanning and prepping my other work to show you. Because I cant really use office time and equipment on personal projects. But they do let us getaway with some surfing and non company emails. But I am going to spend the money and get an ISP so I can up load more of my work to show you better what I can do. I have been trying to save money so I could up grade my computers (I need to get a MS SQL server to test/develop my database code for my personal project). Most of what I am working on now in my free time is managing large dynamic persistent environments, which can be streamed over the web, searched, ext... Well at any rate if you would like me to prove my self by just jumping rite in to the modeling or art asset generation pleas feel free to test me! I see working with your teem as a chance to diversify my portfolio and grow more skilled as an artist! But if my willingness to work for free isn’t enough I will be glad to take the time to get my portfolio site back together and pay to host it online so to compel or prove to you that I am a talented and creative artist. that would like to help with your Thief style project. Regards, Maus
  12. I miss thwacking down tapestries with my sword to reveal hidden passages, secret switches and secret loot! Not to mention fireplaces, too. I miss the hidden pleasures they once offered us in T1/T2. (Sorry for the fireplace tangent.)
  13. Oh. Well that really has nothing to do with us, does it? I just got finished studying Roman armour for the last sourcebook I illustrated. Trust me, the T1 concept art is NOT Roman.
  14. (Ignore the blue thing) This just about the final "medium poly" version - it needs two belt buckles, and then it's done. The next step will be bumping it up to high poly - this is where I make the clothing look less painted on, give the mask thing some volume so it looks less like a hospital mask, make the hood look like wool instead of plastic, and so forth, as well as adding wrinkles, creases, and a lot more detail all over the place. In other words, this is the hard part. So, vote time. Do you guys want me to keep working on this, or should I pause on it, work on the "Honestly it's not a Hammerite" guy? Either is fine for me, so it's your preference that will guide my decision.
  15. I can do some basic modelling. I'm not very good at character modeling, but various environmental objects are easy enough.
  16. Right on, yeah I agree with all that was said. I'll try to get them to be smaller images later tonight or tomorrow, and have the images show up in the post instead of as links. Good idea! Not a problem. [uPDATE: Done.] I agree that the room is bland and I actually, honestly, kind've hate it. It looks better in-person, when standing way far away (LOL) -- actually kind've looks real. BUT (and this is a big BUT) it does lack A LOT of the dynamicism and moodiness we all know and love about Thief. Fortunately, I already realized this and won't be doing another room like that I think I did that room as almost a "study," if you will. I was using Thief 2 as a reference and was seeing how they did the panels on the wall, etc., though I know I erred on a couple things. When i look at that room though, I'm like 'borrrrring' I have a feeling the drawings will get better over time. I'm actually working on a different room scene right now that I think you might appreciate more when I'm done. There's more life and moodiness, in general, to it -- and it feels more Thief to me. I'm using PhotoShop and the coloring will be much better. Once I get a digital pen, I have a feeling you'll be seeing a lot more cooler things, too. Thanks for the feedback guys. Let's rock this thing!
  17. Am actually home for the weekend right now, so I'm not gonna get any more work done till I get back to my dorm. But on the plus side, I think I've picked out the hardware for a new-ish computer - a 2.8 GHz Xeon machine with an open slot for a second SPU when I scrape the cash together, and 1.5 gigs of RAM. Awwww yeah. Once I run this by a few of my friends who are better with hardware, I'll order it and put it together. BTW, Springheel - awesome sketch of the face, it'll be great for what I need.
  18. Very much so. It has that same hollow and rusty metallic sound that's most evident in the 2nd track. It's not exactly the same, but it's close...SH seems more dischordant and uses alot more white noise in comparison.
  19. I'll have to check Google to find out what Cubase SX + VST instruments are... (tomorrow after I've gotten some sleep) Goldwave rocks. Ahh, thanks for the info regarding DarkMod FTP. I hadn't seen that before. Regarding the samples -- you should get better speakers, m'friend!! There's some rumbling bass in parts, and other subtleties, that might not be audible on cheaper speakers. Perhaps you already do and are just using a different PC than you normall do...? PS: If someone with DSL or Broadband can do me a HUGE favor and move the above MP3s to that DarkMod FTP area, I'd really appreciate it! I'm on 56K and it'd take me a while If you're able, let me know what the new URLs are and I'll edit the above links.
  20. True, true. It's not my focus right now; please, have at it!!
  21. There are so many things we need sketches for, I'm not sure it makes sense to do multiple versions of the same thing....
  22. I'll be trying to crank out some sketches for this and some other stuff this weekend, too. Not to do double-work, SpringHeel, but to try and get different brainstormed ideas on it. I've already got one sketch on it, just need to clean it up and scan it in. TGIF!!!!
  23. Oh right, it was The Circle I got it from, not TTLG.
  24. Obviously, ambient sounds (tied to certain locations/areas) will also be needed, and perhaps sounds for when our thief walks through a bush or walks through some tree branches (foliage), etc. I'd love to try and help out with some of the "foley artistry" work, but am not sure how possible that will be. What type of sound equipment will you be using? As a side note, I'll probably be able to crank out a few sounds/ambiences from my Roland keyboard. I noticed Doom 3 actually had one part where it used an exact ambient sound that's in my Roland keyboard. My ROland sounds wouldn't be 'real life' sounds like footsteps, per se -- but more along the lines of music/ambience/atmosphere. GoldWave software may allow me to layer sounds and tweak some of them, as well.
  25. The big question is figuring out when to make these sacrifices and why. I'm intending on using a few more brushes than what we saw in Id's maps because Thief is a much slower game and can probably afford a slight framerate drop in comparison. We have this awesome engine at our disposal and all, so of course we should take advantage of it and do things we haven't seen in any Thief game to date....we just gotta use some common sense and think some stuff out. From what I've seen Doom 3 uses about 4000-7000 brushes per map, with usually about 200-400 on display in a single scene (an admittedly pulled-out-of-my-ass estimation) . I plan on using about that same amount of brushes, maybe a little more if the memory requirements aren't too high, and about at most 700 of em onscreen at once. Since the engine can handle that amount you don't have to worry about making any threadbare rooms to save on performance, but to be on the safe side I wouldn't go over that mark. For a quick example here...say you're in a bedroom that's made up of about 150 brushes...you could go ahead and throw a nice transluscent window in there and not worry about choking your graphics card...but if you're in a giant ass entryroom with a grand staircase I'd throw curtains over the windows to keep from drawing what's outside and adding to the burden. lol, kind of a longwinded and sorta preachy post just to say what everyone pretty much already knows, but I wanted to throw it out anyway just to show how I plan on doing the maps.
