What stuff can we use? (licences)

I'm having trouble finding a forum post or wiki article with any guidance for what resources we can import into missions. Does anyone have a link?

Can I use a CC-BY-SA resource in my map? I won't be modifying it, so won't trigger the licence restriction on derivative works.

Yes. As long as you aren't packaging the whole asset base with your map, you should be fine. Technically the map itself is just geometry descriptors so you could even violate the license and sell your mission (etc) with the understanding that if players don't want to possibly break license terms themselves they will need to get replacement assets "elsewhere". Though I think we'd prefer that authors don't go that route and risk ensnaring the project in any litigation due to false associations with mapper projects. Demagogue can probably speak to this in more depth. The short answer: anything in TDM's asset base is there for mappers to use for Dark Mod missions. Anything beyond that, read the license terms and CYA.

Please visit TDM's IndieDB site and help promote the mod:

(Yeah, shameless promotion... but traffic is traffic folks...)

Thanks, that's good news, and no worries I'm only looking for sounds and textures that might be nice to use in freely shared missions, perfectly in keeping with the letter and spirit of the CC licence. It's just that when I was looking for posts about free resources I saw people discussing whether this-and-that license was compatible with TDM's license and wondered if there were rules/guidelines I needed know about (but couldn't track down).

I tried to upscale the TDM logo video. First try:

briefing_video.mp4 You can test it ingame by making a copy of the core tdm_gui.mtr and place it in your-tdm-root/materials/ , then edit line 249 of that file into the location where you placed the new briefing.mp4 file.
What I did was I extracted all the image files, then used Upscayl to upscale the images using General photo (Real-Esrgan) upscale setting and then turn it back into a video.
I might have to crop it a bit, the logo looks smaller on screen (or maybe it's actually better this way?). My video editor turned it into a 16:9 video, which I think overal looks better than 1:1 video of original.

Finally got round to publishing a tutorial on baking normal maps in Blender, since most of the ones we have are inaccessible or years out of date.

The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )
