Paralytik Posted January 16, 2015 Report Posted January 16, 2015 On Thursday Jan 22nd, we are launching a new version of our website. The current website is getting old, both in technology and content. We need a new site that’s modern and better suited for mobile, for our entire product line and well… for 2015. The Propellerhead Forums are not being brought along to the new website, which means this place is going to close next week. A big thanks to all the people who have contributed to the forums over the years. Let’s keep the conversation going on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram and Google+! See you!/The Propellerhead team Personally I think this is the worst idea ever. The Reason forums has LOADS of info and knowledge, built up through years and years. I'm really sad to see it go away, and I can't understand why they've made this decision. https://www.propellerheads.se/forum/showthread.php?p=1579099#poststop Quote "My milkshake bringeth all ye gentlefolk to the yard. 161803398874989 Posted January 16, 2015 Report Posted January 16, 2015 Let’s keep the conversation going on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram and Google+! This is the most terrible idea I've heard in a long time. One hallmark of social media is that the information is streaming: there's always new info, and old info is incredibly hard to find. A forum is a more permanent medium, much more suitable for storing user created content. Can we get archive.org to index the entire site? Quote You can call me Phi, Numbers, Digits, Ratio, 16, 1618, or whatever really, as long as it's not Phil.
Paralytik Posted January 16, 2015 Author Report Posted January 16, 2015 There are lots of different things going on right now trying to accomplish something like that. We're talking about 10k threads and 15 years of accumulated community knowledge here, so I hope there will be some preserving of the old boards. ralphonzo Posted January 17, 2015 Report Posted January 17, 2015 I've seen many of my favorite bands do this in recent years. The result is a lot of alienated, knowledgable fans who become solely observers. Maybe most bands don't care, but for the developers of a software suite like Reason, killing their forum in an attempt to force people over to venues that foster, by design, shallower, less detailed discussion is just an awful idea. But wait... Like Propellerhead said, this is 2015. There are plenty of full-fledged DAWs available. Quote
