I'm not sure anyone else brought these up, but I found a few helpful utilities:

3D

SharpConstruct (Windows/Linux gtk) - open source ZBrush2 (wannabe) equivalent:

xNormal mapper (windows only, can port to Linux, Solaris, or MacOS) - NVidia Melody, Orb (I couldn't find a download site for this), & other hi to lo poly normal utilities.

Graphics

PaintStar (freeware) - Windows GIMP rip-off (it works & looks exactly like the GIMP but the author gives no credit). I don't think it can load gimp plugins though.

GIMP already runs on Windows -- why would you want a freeware rip-off? Does it add some new features that GIMP lacks?

GIMP for windows uses gtk for the interface & that causes some problems (gimp often freezes on me). I don't use PaintStar. But PaintStar is windows native & I would assume it would work better for graphics tablets. I know tablet support on ported software is buggy or nonexistant. The Orange Project (the big Blender movie project) was done on a mac os x system but the artists couldn't use a tablet with their gimp install so they used Sea Shore, which is a stripped down version of the gimp using os x native libraries.

Finally got round to publishing a tutorial on baking normal maps in Blender, since most of the ones we have are inaccessible or years out of date.

The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )
