Penumbra: Black Plague

I suppose I can also image my system, do the whole Steam thing, play the games, and then re-image without Steam after. Perhaps I'll do that. Thanks for the tip! Sounds like a great deal.

Or you could buy it directly from the developers and give them their hard-earned money, yes, all 20 US$. That way they get more money than if you buy the $5 Steam version, and you don't have the hassel. Don't be cheap :)

Sounds good. You ship me the extra $15 US and I'll chip in the rest. Don't be cheap. :)

(IOW, the only reason I'm considering getting it is the 'dangling carrot' low price, otherwise I have more than enough unfinished or completely unplayed, paid-for games that are just collecting dust -- farcry, hitman2, gothic2, morrowind (yes still haven't finished),M&B (played the betas more than the release),RtCW,STALKER, Bioshock, SplinterCell, RBR(lost my saves, had to start over), TR:Anniversary, 700+ FMs for Thief, etc.......ahem...)

If you were in Europe, I would just transfer the money. Unfortunately, transfering the same amount to USA (without a CC) would eat up about 30 US$ in transfer fees, easily.

So I can just buy the game at the online store in full, and then forward you the downloaded files, either by CD via snail mail, or by email. Is that okay with you? Which OS version do you want, Windows, Linux, Mac?

You'll never finish Morrowind (I know, I "invested" several months of my life in it :) and I know the syndroms - a lot of collected games gathering dust :)

  • 1 year later...

Unfortunately there is no way around Steam at this price

Muhahah... I just got the Penumbra Collection from Direct2Drive for $5.

After I went through imaging my system first (I didn't know if D2D would (or has?) do anything undesirable to my system), then installing and activating, then re-imaging the system with it installed, and then playing a bit... I came back here to post the news of the $5 sale only to find out it's now gone. Guess I got in at the last hours. Sorry.

I wonder what the DRM is? Both, what is installed on my system quietly, and how many activations I get. If just one, there must be a way to de-activate and re-activate on another system I assume? I've decided I want this in the living room on the TV.

Edit: looks like secuROM. well that's what backup images are for. ;) Now about that deactivation...

Has anyone had any luck with textures from Polyhaven? Their OpenEXR normal maps seem too washed out and give incorrect shading in the engine.

I tried to upscale the TDM logo video. First try:

briefing_video.mp4 You can test it ingame by making a copy of the core tdm_gui.mtr and place it in your-tdm-root/materials/ , then edit line 249 of that file into the location where you placed the new briefing.mp4 file.
What I did was I extracted all the image files, then used Upscayl to upscale the images using General photo (Real-Esrgan) upscale setting and then turn it back into a video.
I might have to crop it a bit, the logo looks smaller on screen (or maybe it's actually better this way?). My video editor turned it into a 16:9 video, which I think overal looks better than 1:1 video of original.

Trying to be productive on my down-time before Capcom releases Akuma and my son is constantly on my PC playing Street Fighter...

Finally got round to publishing a tutorial on baking normal maps in Blender, since most of the ones we have are inaccessible or years out of date.

The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.
