ST, That's a bit too much conspiracy theory to me. I always thought Ignorance being formed by Laziness-of-self. It is easier not-to-know. It takes a lot of effort of to learn. The society gives us just what we demand, and the majority demands the things you list. Your 'control' argument includes an assumption that there is a clever higher entity (the conspirator) that calls the shots. I'm afraid the reality is more gloomier and more chaotic.
