  1. What we need is for a l33t web designer to build an application which will automatically traverse the CVS repository, parse the ASE and LWO models for their materials, then load the images, render the model to a preview image and build the web gallery automatically.
  2. Huh? I can't see any gradient in that image, looks like solid black to me.
  3. Dave, your overlay image is correct. Just run it through the normalmap plugin in Normalise mode to ensure that the values are within the required range (you may not even need to do this, but I always did just to be safe).
  4. I assume that it blends the two normal maps into one main map, which is then sent to the graphics card. As far as I know there is no shader support for blending normalmaps on the GPU, so this would have to be done by the engine in an image preprocessing stage.
  5. You can blend two normal maps together, I have done this many times in the GIMP. The normal blend mode doesn't work, you have to use something called "Hard light" or "Soft light" (I have no idea whether there are equivalents in Photoshop), and then re-run the normalmap plugin in "Normalise" mode. You can also use the addNormals() function in the MTR definition to combine two normalmaps in-game.
  6. Redundancy alert.
  7. Release 0.5.3 of DarkRadiant is now available on SourceForge. This is a minor update, but fixes a bug in 0.5.2 which makes it impossible to create a func_door or func_static out of brushes. Bugfix Selected brushes correctly parented to func_static, func_door and other brush-based func entities. UI enhancement Light texture selector automatically selects current shader in tree view.
  8. Upgrading to 2.42a didn't solve the B-Brush problem. Oh well, I never really needed that tool anyway *shrug*.
  9. That may very well be the case, from the 2.42 announcement:
  10. http://blenderartists.org/forum/ Blender has a smaller community than MAX, so obviously the range of finished artwork is likely to be more limited. It is still an exceedingly capable program however.
  11. It's called B-Brush, and it's available in the latest release. It is accessed through a script, which makes it a bit hard to find (and unfortunately for me is not working at all at present), but you can try going into mesh edit mode with TAB, select Mesh->Scripts->B-Brush from the viewport menu, then going to the View->"Space handler scripts" menu and activating the new script which appears there. This should put you into a special mode where you can sculpt with LMB on the active mesh, but for me it is doing precisely nothing (although I have used it in the past, probably a configuration issue). EDIT: Just tried using 2.41 and it works fine, it just has problems in 2.42. Sigh, another Blender minor update breaking scripts.
  12. Max 5 is pretty outdated now, while Blender 2.42 is the latest version. I don't know how they compare in terms of features, but I always recommend using open-source software (Blender) over a presumably pirated copy of a proprietary application.
  13. Yes, that's exactly what I'm talking about. The whole student binge-drinking "Woo! Woo! Woo! I'm so wacky! Let's get drunk!!! Woo! Woo!!! Look at me, I'm wearing a chicken suit!!! Woo! Drunk!! Woo!" crap. Moderate, social drinking is another matter entirely. Hell, I even enjoy a glass of whisky myself occasionally in the privacy of my own home.
  14. So is masturbation, but that doesn't mean I want to listen to people yapping on about it 24/7 like students do about alcohol. Fortunately, in the adult world people have a more diverse range of interests. I can't even remember the last time I heard someone at work talk about getting drunk.
  15. Having fun is not conformist in itself, no. Equating "having fun" with "getting pissed" is conformist, almost by definition.
  16. The light more or less is shining on that upper edge. The illusion of roundness is almost perfect until you see the profile - check out the "round" bannisters and handrails in vanilla Doom 3, they look round but are in fact square.
  17. It would have a black outline, because the surface is curving away from the light and into shadow. I agree about the specular though, a wooden beam probably wouldn't have any specular at all.
  18. I think you're underestimating the number of models that will be present in a fully-fledge toolset. Imagine all of the many T3Ed models, compressed into a single-level context menu. You would also lose the ability to preview models before adding them, which is often useful. Is loading the models in the inspector really that much of a problem? You should only have to do it the first time you display the dialog.
  19. Actually no, arachnophobia is a learned behaviour not an innate one. Young children are not frightened of spiders unless they learn it from their parents, although as they grow up they are likely to develop a certain unease due to the large number of negative cultural associations.
  20. Yeah but I made the jocks disappear with my l33t Nerd Science.
  21. The Bonehoard was by far my favourite Thief level, I hope this project goes a long way.
  22. Very glad you like it. There are lots more interface improvements on the way.
  23. According to this, Knecht can be translated as "farm labourer" which is very similar to "harvestman" in meaning. Cobweb generally refers to random strands of web that you find on your ceiling, it would never refer to an orb web or any obviously regular spider creation. A tangled spider web in the corner of a room could be referred to with either term.
  24. There are actually three different things termed "daddy long legs": Pholcus Phalangioides, a type of non-spider arachnid called the Opiliones, and the cranefly which is a winged insect. The chances are that two people discussing daddy long-legs aren't even talking about the same species.
  25. I can't see what advantage it would give you. The entity menu is cluttered enough already, and adding every single model would make things a great deal worse.
