  1. Oh. Well I think French is quite beautiful. It seems very elegant to have to use such posh sounding words (utilisation, etc) and have all the cognates of higher English words which link beautifully to Latin, so you have avare, in English avaricious for cheapskate (although technically radin is the vuglar one). The reviews of bad things, and insults etc sound great in French too. It's a bit of a bugger to pronounce words like organisation or régularisation properly though, and it's hard to listen to and understand. Still quite beautiful though. It becomes less so as you learn it though, as it's no longer just pretty sounds, it's meanings. English is just quite lazy in comparison. At least it is how I speak it, and how people around me do. All the schwas and contractions... I appreciate English more from having learnt French though, it's got that old clunkiness from having been mixed and mashed up so much.
  2. I don't care. I want someone from Hull or Rochdale damnit! They have great accents. I'm interested by what you say about France. Have they not got as much variation as the UK now? I can speak pretty good French so it does interest me. I can kind of hear accents, but it's hard. I find some of the newsreaders have very harsh accents, their "s"s are horribly sibilant... Also I went to see Wallace and Gromit in England with a Frenchman, and he couldn't tell Wallace's Northern accent, which astonished me. It's just so obvious! And don't get people to try and do an "English" accent. It's just so aweful. Mind you I can find Canadian a bit whiney... go for something neutral maybe... really nasal whiney Canadian would stick out badly. In fact, I know an example! The film Chocolat, that had the worst accents ever! I couldn't tell whether the main woman was American or not (apparently she was French, they all were) and whether the gypsy chap was Irish or what...? They had American/French accents I think. That faded in and out. Either speak French and do subtitles like the wonderfull German-made Downfall, or speak American. Or even better hire some good English actors. It was more Allo Allo than serious cinema.
  3. Mutton Geoff? Rough? I wouldn't like to see a French accent in there. French I'd be happy with, but a Frenchman speaking English just isn't that nice to hear, especially if it's an English person doing the French accent... I vote for up north!
  4. Yeah that's great. No really, I'd love that. However I'd be interested to hear what you chose. West country accent? Somerset? (Where I live) You'd probably give them to the peasants. Laaandon? Saaaf offa rivah? I would love to see some northern accents, Hull, Rochdale, maybe Manchester. Add some grit to the thing.
  5. A British accent? So what would that be exactly? Britain has probably the densest accent variation of any English speaking country, so it's not really good enough to say British. You mean a middle class/ upper middle class accent or a proper posh one? (what used to be recieved pronunciation, although technically it's not any more). If we get a sound file of a Brummie (from Birmingham) and then someone from Essex you'll get why you have to be careful with accents in the UK, aside from the obvious Scotish/Welsh/Northern Irish/English thing.
  6. I suppose both sounds fine. I was initially worried about dragging and wanted just shouldering, and it wasn't fun to drag people in hitman. Plus Thief seems very intuitive at a game level: you pick up the body, you move slower, you can't attack or anything. But I think being able to drag bodies around to position them would be very good. A combination would do fine.

    Keepers?

Mmm. Could call them anything. Keepers is just a vague word. Doesn't mean much. It's not actually much good anyway. Just The Brotherhood. The Guild. The Assassins (change the theme to like the assassins in Oblivion). The Nameless even.
  8. Okay I think now that sticking with the TII method is best, with room for a cloth round the mouth to be added. The whole thing is a quagmire of problems.
  9. Well the sniper hold breath key is something that already exists, it's like e or f or whatever the use key is isn't it? (It better be for my argument to hold...) But a breath holding key is completely separate. A 100% new key just for one small function which only is needed in some fairly rare (compared with say leaning), that nevertheless (unlike breath holding for sniping) is really vital and MUST be learnt to survive levels. Consider someone who didn't know about that feature, they would be completely confused by it. With automatic they go "oh righhhht I think I get it" or just get out the room without fully understanding it until later.
  10. Of course automatically you have to remember that it wouldn't be *breathe in then hold* more a kind of *ulp!* closing of the mouth and holding chest still. Which is great. Automatic for the win. Imagine though the reaction you'd get to a holding breath key outside this message board. Most gamers would think this is madness.
  11. You want the other 2... or is it 1? RARs? There's 4 in total. Some nice stuff still to come I think.
  12. Automatic would be best. Have a cough if you want, but don't remove any health in the nice gas until the breath bar runs out. That's what I say.
  13. I don't see what is wrong with the 2 types of gas idea. It's not like when you get a hit of this KO gas you will pre-detect it (You're probably going to have breathed it in to smell/taste it!) and hold you breath, you'd go "What the! Gasp! Ugh!" **KO**. This is a great idea!
  15. You say effort, I couldn't be arsed last night, and forgot this morning. I'll do it sometime. You guys aren't exactly waiting on it, you've got quite a lot of things to do still. But yeah, no problem. If you like 'em or use 'em you could bung me at the end of the credits, in the dogsbody section.
  16. Ah. I had never heard of that. Will do that, but have to divide up all my photos into RARs of less than 50. I'll do that tonight some time.
  17. Ah. No-one allows 179MB rar files to be sent over email... Some kind of upload fpt online service???
  18. Can you give an email address for me to email them to?
  19. Plus I edited out people in the shots I'll give to the project. They are blanked out.
  20. Done. Some are poor quality, digicam doesn't like solme lighting conditions> Back. I've forgotten how to touchtype an English keyboard. Damn< Anyone want to tell me what to do now???
  21. Day in Lyon today. Took lots of great photos of stuff. Inc. lots of a 1700-1800 cathedral, so quite modern, but in the classical style with loads of gold leaf and tiles inside, whereas the very old cathedrals just have unpainted interiors; the paint has long gone. There are overviews of architecture, but I've also done little details, especially floors, which can be used to make textures.
  22. Well they are 3MP, so I can fit lots in, out of a max res of 5MP, not sure how that quality will look. Got about 90 photos of that size left, but I'm not using them all for TDM. 256MB cqard. I'll go to Lyon Wednesday I think, lots of lovely stuff there. Pleased to be of service. I thought you might have that sort of stuff already. In fact you must all live in dull places. Messages are simple as French keyboard's are rubbish, keys moved round? esp. all punctuation. Learning to touch type though. AZERTY keyboard you see. Wiki it.
  23. I'm in France at the moment, near Lyon. Today I visited Vichy, a beautiful city despite its ugly history. I have great pictures of the architecture, I'm particularly proud of a picture of a nice tiled floor (in fact from a catholic school) face on, maybe good enough for textures, **shrug** I'm no expert, and would like to give them to the team or the beta mappers to study for inspiration, resources. I can't upload them off the digicam till next weekend, but when I do who wants them?
  24. "Haht podaydo?" Well I still think you should put in something to see round corners. I don't see why you can't have the orb in the FM kit, it's not like people have to use it. The mirror idea is probably more fiddly, if anything.
  25. I never use the potions. Don't know why. Unnecessary maybe, or maybe I couldn't bear to use them up, then mission complete anyway. But I like the scouting orb. Keep it in please.
