Thanks for playing and so glad you liked it!

It sound like you're having issues with the volumetric lights, which are prominent in both of those areas you mentioned.  Nobody else reported any issues - what's your PC setup?

I played on my old ex work machine which doesn't have a very powerful graphics card but it manages most of the time, I should have played on my new laptop really

    It's a Dell Precision T1700, 8Gb Ram, Intel® Core™ i7-4770 CPU @ 3.40GHz × 8, NVIDIA Corporation GK107GL [Quadro K600], running 64 bit Zorin OS 17.3 Core

I did look at upgrading the graphics card but decided on getting a laptop instead, I really need to use the laptop more, I did get it for games after all 🤦‍♀️

Regarding volumetric lighting, I just turned off volumetric effects in the advanced video menu, reloaded the game, went back to the stairs & there's no noticeable framerate drop, so as no one else complained  I'd say don't worry about it, I'll play with that setting, thanks for asking though 👍

  2. OK, I loved this mission, I've loved every one of the lieutenant series so far

The only issue I did have was a framerate drop on the

    Spoiler

Staircase down from the dock level to the subterranean area with the overturned boat, not sure if it was the shadows from the mesh on the lights or all the planks in the steps but something seriously slugged my graphics card in that area

Had something similar on the cannon deck of the ship in "Foreign Affairs" just that one area, everywhere else was fine

I've just realised I played Version 1 so this may have been looked at

Everywhere else was smooth as silk

I got all the loot* & everyone apart from the the non KO guards is asleep, no issues with KOing, spent a lot of time staring at things wondering how I was going to get up/down/across to them & thinking "this is never going to work" except it did, I do like puzzles like that

    *

    Spoiler

Even the birds nest, that was a sod

    So thank you for this

  3. Okidoki, I finally bit the bullet & went with a Recoil 17 from PC Specialist

    Specs I went for are

    Chassis & Display: Recoil Series: 17" Matte QHD+ 240Hz sRGB 100% LED Widescreen (2560x1600)
    Processor (CPU): Intel® Core™ i9 24 Core Processor 14900HX (5.8GHz Turbo)
    Memory (RAM): 32GB PCS PRO SODIMM DDR5 4800MHz (1 x 32GB)
    Graphics Card: NVIDIA® GeForce® RTX 4080 - 12.0GB GDDR6 Video RAM - DirectX® 12.1
    External DVD/BLU-RAY Drive
    1TB PCS PCIe M.2 SSD (3500 MB/R, 3200 MB/W)
Operating System: NO OPERATING SYSTEM REQUIRED

The case seems to be made of metal not plastic & there's an optional water cooling unit, which I didn't get

For the OS I disabled fast boot & secure boot, loaded Zorin 17.2, used the entire disk, without any installation issues

Zorin is a Ubuntu fork so Ubuntu & it's other forks shouldn't have an issue if anyone else gets one of these

The only minor issue is the keyboard backlight isn't recognized by default, but the forums are full of info on sorting that out, not that I'm too bothered

I've installed TDM & it runs beautifully

I also copied my thief 1 & 2 installations from my desktop, I had to uncomment "d3d_disp_sw_cc" in cam_ext.cfg to get the gamma processing working but they run happily too

The fans switch on when booting & switch off again after a few seconds, the machine isn't stressed enough to turn them on running TDM so far - this is not a challenge btw

On the whole, I'm extremely pleased

So thanks for all the advice

First of all, thank you for this treat. This world is so full of wonderful details, it is a fantastic story, it has everything. But I am literally stuck in Mission 5. I have found Desmond, but after the dialogue, I am stuck, i.e. I cannot move forward, backward or to the sides. I can still crouch and jump. I tried noclip, but that did not help either. What can I do?

I got that too, fortunately I had a save from just before the conversation, so I tried it a few times, stuck every time

I managed to open a console window just before the conversation started so I could see if there were any error messages

I didn't spot any & when desmond shut up I closed the console & found I could move

    Spoiler

plus I had the explosives 😈

So I quickly saved & that overwrote the save I had before the issue, sorry didn't think to keep it

I did enjoy this campaign, excellent work, the puzzles were hard but not too hard

Thank you to everyone who contributed

    Could be overpowered?

    That'd be a first for me 🤣

I think the specs look good. The lower end GPU’s tend to have less raster hardware ( ROPS ) so you might need to change the “Render Scale” setting if the  screen resolution is higher than 1080p but otherwise it should be pretty smooth ( don’t forget to uncap your FPS )

    Thank you

Thank you all, I think I've got enough to go with now

  6. Sorry if this is in the wrong place, please feel free to move it or merge with an existing thread

I'm looking to get a new laptop, my desktop is fine but struggles with graphics in some TDM missions plus it means locking myself in the spare room

One obvious requirement is it needs to play TDM

Another is it's going to run Linus but that's my problem

I've found a machine that looks reasonable & won't break the bank, but will it play TDM ?

    Specs are :

    Acer Nitro 5 AN517-55-7366 17-inch - Core i7-12700H 2.3GHz - 16GB 512GB NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 6Gb, QWERTY - English

It's not that. In some occasions, the blackjack simply went through the NPC without doing anything. No hit, no sound, nothing. It's as if you're sriking through air.

That said, I don't know if that happened to @lowenz here.

I got that with two guys

    Spoiler

playing cards in an upstairs room above a hungry beggar, finding the room counts as a secret, neither could be BJ'd even after a restart ... they could be gassed though 😈, the beggar was unappreciative of their food 🙁

Whereabouts, in Yorkshire perhaps?  I have lived in England all my life, mainly the east midlands, the north west and the south east, and everyone I know pronounces threepenny as threppenny, the double e being pronounced as a short e rather than a long e.  The UK has many accents for a relatively small place, so the pronounciation you suggest may exist, but is not the most common one.

I'm a 65 yo Mancunian, everyone I know pronounced it as "Thrupenny"

  9. Well that was fun, took me a while to work out how to get into the upper floors, I'm quite proud of getting to the archer over the river he was bugging me

    Tragically death visited the area

    Spoiler

Mr Coates was attending a soiree in the hotel and slipped on a misplaced candle plummeting head first into a toilet that someone had left the seat up on, unable to extricate himself, he drowned in the murky, noxious & surprisingly deep liquid

Let this be a reminder to put the seat down when you finish guys 😉

    Spoiler

Also in an unrelated accident Mr Sharpe fell in the mansion pool & drowned while on a midnight walk

    Or so everyone believes 😈

I did have a few issues at the beginning where the game crashed to desktop a couple of times right at the start but that has apparently been looked at, so I'll give it a few weeks & try the new version

Also Mr Harrington was inside his apartment walking into the wall with the veranda on the other side when I found him, not sure if that's been mentioned

But overall a really enjoyable mission, excellent architecture, well decorated, good but not impossible puzzles, thank you 👍

  10. Sorry if this is a bit late or it's been fixed, my memory is atrocious these days

On the way to the beggar there's a courtyard with an accessible roof section (pictured)

There's a generator with a climbable pipe & a spikey guard rail (centre of image)

So naturally I climbed the pipe to get over the rail, jumped off the pipe & ended up inside the roof to the right

This is on the original release version of the mission

Feel free to delete this once it's been seen I'm conscious space is an issue with image storage
