  1. Weird. It works when I'm saving the default texture as *.tga! I'm confused
  2. Hello everyone. I recently started to make my own map and it seems I encountered a problem that I can't solve on my own. I made a skin for a default model (it is an outdoor sign with chains). I used the wood texture that also comes with TDM. The skin looks as it should be in the 'Choose Skin' window, but in-game it is completely black. Does it have something to do with the vertex colours? Or is it because the default model uses two textures? (one for chains and another - for the shield itself) Here's my *.skin file: //shield shape// skin sign_shield_lucky_leaf { model models/darkmod/decorative/signs/sign_shieldshape01.lwo tdm_sign_shield01 textures/darkmod/wood/boards/pier_platform }
  3. I like your videos a lot! Very well done. For me it was very inspirational. I even started to make my own map
  4. Hello everybody. Today I am proud to say that we have 90 translated missions. Not all of them are fully tested, but we're slowly working on it. The all the work behind this is HUGE. I still can't believe that it took me almost two years to made it this far. Yet we have another "problem". People are unaware that there is a Russian translation. (I want to admit that I really suck at promoting myself and my work). That leads us to a situation when people are starting their own translation, trying to solve the problems that already been solved, etc. Short said: they want the translation to be available through the game itself. They don't want to bother themselves to look for it anywhere else. And we just can't make it available that way in its present state. Here's the reason: -sometimes we're changing *.xd or another files to make a full translation (That means, that in our own repository we have not only *.lang files, but the whole bunch of *.pk4 archives with all the modified stuff. In order to play it, you just put it in the mission folder - that's it! Without re-writing the original files and can be deleted at any time.) Here's the possible solution: Maybe - just maybe - TDM can have it's own *.pk archive instead of only *.lang file for each language? (For example: saintlucia_ru.pk4 / saintlucia_pl.pk4 / saintlucia_de.pk4 etc.) I thought it can be a flexible solution. Just want to know some opinions. After that If I'd be given some rights to maintain the Russian section I would update it every time I got some fresh data. I also thought to write a manual for other translators, where all topics would be covered starting from patching the fonts and so on. And even make some video tutorials and upload them on youtube. But I want to be sure that all of that is worth something. Thanks to all of you who supported me and helped along the way.
  5. Hello, Synergy! Welcome to the club! Good luck with your translation. Although it might be difficult and here's why: According to this page The Dark Mod uses the following encodings: Czech, Hungarian, Slovak, Polish: ISO-8859-2 (not WIN-1250!)Russian: WIN-1251French: ISO-8859-15Romanian: ISO-8859-16All other languages: ISO-8859-1 (German, Dutch, Danish, Swedish, Portuguese, etc.) The symbols İ, ı, Ğ, ğ, Ş, ş are not presented in any of them (only ISO-8859-3, ISO-8859-9, Windows-1254). I wrote you the solution, and offered my help, but you said you would do it on your own
  6. I never talked about torrent trackers. And the problem is that we just can't post modified xd files here.
For english-speaking ppl, here is a brief description of the text written above: I am saying, that our translations will be most likely presented only on darkfate.org, due to various reasons. We change a lot of files to make our translations more like professional work (this is what TDM deserves) not an amateur. We're changing xd's, maps, decals - everything to make a FULL translation. We're testing our translations minumum 2 times before saying that a mission officially has a russian translation. But still some people here doesn't believe in us and are sceptical about our work. And I am posted some links: - our google drive derictory with all the translated missions ready for testing; - we're translating our missions on a flexible website for translators, where everyone who wants can participate; - the link for the subtitles is here; two last links require membership on a closed website. I have some invites if someone is interested and understands Russian.
  8. Спасибо Прогнозов нет, т.к. я делаю это в свободное время и когда есть желание. И тут не всем нравятся мои методы, так что скорее всего все это будет доступно только на darkfate.org. I am still updating my first post for those who really cares. Today's status: at this moment we have 76 translated missions.
  9. Да, и правда. Проходить бы вообще можно было бы наугад. P.S. для того, чтобы моддить, программирование знать полезно, но не обязательно
  10. Thank you very much Moonbo, SteveL. Tels, here you go, zip-file with fonts. I hope someday they will be included in TDM. About the subtitles: I am making the full texts (for "hmmm", "argh", "cough" etc.). I guess it will be easier to cut unused lines later (if needed). When done I'd like to have someone who can just check them all, 'cause sometimes there's just mumbling which non-native speaker can't easily understand Tell me if I can help when the time comes. I learn quickly and will be glad to help with subtitles.
  11. Here are some stats in case someone is wondering where the hell the promised translations are: - 44 missions are translated at this moment (less than a year has passed since I started to work on it); - we have 7 fully translated and tested FMs; - all russian fonts were fixed (with help of chedap, Tels and Radiant); download link here and in the first post; - we've started to work on subtitles (English+Russian). Only writing the text now, the technical part will be someday handled by the programmers (as we all hope); - we have first recordings of translated audio files spoken by semi-professional guys who do radio shows and/or play at a theatres;
  12. We're still translating TDM on Russian and it goes pretty well. Too bad there are only two people who work on it.

      Thanks! We've submitted 4 or 5 of them on russian darkfate forum. Submitting them here causes hot discussions, headache and problems for some reasons. From authors permission to translate to some technical difficulties. I prefer working and not that bla-bla-bla thing.

      Tels

      It's a shame the russian translations (and other translations in general) are not just folded into the missions - looking at the FM directory, only a handful of FMs seem to be in I18N state :(

      I too prefer getting work done over bla :)

      Tels, you're my hero, hehe

  13. To be short: to have translated menu\HUD is very good, but they are quite identical from game to game so some people can understand them even in English. But in the missions (I'm saying it both as a translator and gamer) it is better to have the game (read: missions) translated. (Especially when a game sometimes uses old English grammar) AFAIK some Russian players don't use Russian menu because it wasn't fully tested and some parts of it do not display correctly. But I can't speak for all. And about me: I'm playing in English because I understand it. But I've also played with some of our translations and tried to be impartial. And I liked it. (I was mostly testing unfinished translations to fix them later but still...) Thank you Tels
  14. jaxa So now we need to be programmers to translate TDM? I can't write scripts and I do not now anyone in our team of translators who can.
  15. Oh, thank you Tels! My opinion is that all localisation sounds must be downloaded separately for each language. An example of how I see it: When someone downloads TDM it comes as it is now - in English, by default. And if person wants TDM sounds - he\she must download a pack with Russian\German\Italian\etc. sounds. When I'm testing my sounds in-game I just make a folder in the root directory named (for example) "tdm_sound_vocals02" and put all the files in it with the same names. And TDM just reads the newest file. (This way I do not overwrite the original files in *.pk4's) When I do not wish these files any more I just rename the folder or delete it or move to somewhere else.
  16. About sounds: I didn't want to tell about that, but actually I do have a team that would make all the sounds. (Four guys from one local Internet radio station, they have some experience so I trust them). We even have the first samples. But it is much more work 'cause more people are involved and it takes more time to write down and translate all the lines (for example: the whole TDM by itself contains ~6500 sound files). The topic was started by me (more than a month ago) on the website where we're translating all the stuff: http://notabenoid.com/book/54012 So yes - we want the sounds translated. But it means that we're changing map anyway. But it is a good base for other translations. If we'll make it now (I guess Bikerdude already said that) it will be much easier for others to make the same work with another language. And for the modders themselves - they're only making a map. And the translators doing all the work that must be done for translators. And if the modder wants to be sure that we're didn't screwed something over he\she can always use something like notepad++ to compare original and edited map and check out which lines were changed and why. (In most cases we're only adding new "#str_") I also wanted to say that every mission is tested minimum twice before we release it here. Every possible bug is tracked down (no matter if it misplaced character, orthographic mistake, not translated line or whatever) All is written down (via making screenshot directly from the game), shared with other translators, fixed, then tested AGAIN by a different player. If they find new bugs they make screenshots and the whole process begins again. Until that it is not allowed to tell that mission actually has a Russian translation. So as I said before - we want to make things proper. TDM deserves that. And I have respect for people who make mods not for money or something, but because they love what they're doing. As I am love translating. I have experience. I've translated lots of interviews and articles and even some books + audio interviews (and even took a couple from my favourite musicians). Currently I'm living in Germany and can freely speak English and German here so people understand me. I think I have right to make some small mistakes when speaking these two while they're not my native languages. But not the backwards. Russian is a very rich and flexible language.
  17. Thanks Bikerdude and Springheel! And thanks to all the authors who has given their permission. We're not doing it for ourselves (me personally and my colleagues can play TDM in English), but for the others. As you may know Russian Thief-related community is very big and after some quick research it seems that a translation of TDM will be greatly appreciated. That's just an enthusiasm to help others and to do something useful. This whole topic with Russian translation was started in 2009. But the most of translations we've done so far were completed in last 2-3 months just because there are some people who really want to do it. And as far as I see no one currently is interested in making TDM more 'translators-friendly'. And which idea is better: to make translation in current conditions or not to make it at all? I understand that I might asking too much, so here's another way. We can upload edited *.pk4-files on DarkFate (which I guess well known here) so the Russian players can download translated missions from there. But the easiest solution is not always the best. We're open for all the comments and suggestions so feel free to tell us
  18. Thanks again to chedap! Another font fixed Continue testing...
  19. demagogue, gnartsch - thanks a lot. I know this forum. But the problems are still not resolved. I wouldn't be here asking for help if they were
  20. It depends on what you think a "separate work" would be. If by "separate work" you mean a standalone version of the game that should be downloaded by russian players on its own, that's not what we want to achieve. Until now we struggle to make our translation be a part of the mission, as it actually should be. For example in case of level maps we don't replace the original english .dds files with russian ones. Instead we replace the filepath linking a certain map in the mission code with a #str_nnnnn , because that way every translation could get an own map, while english still stays the default one. What I want to say is that it would be fine if our translation would be a part of TDMs localization packs that are available for some missions. Exactly. There is a file called "russian.map" inside "tdm_base01.pk4". { 0xFF 0xB6 // я } Thanks, I'll check this.
  21. Yeah, that works just awesome, but we need to change the *.xd-files, is that ok? What if the author wants to make some changes in the mission? That's what I'm worried about. And a new problem today: some wrong symbols. 1. the small "я" 2. the doubled breve in "й" I thought I need to change only *.dds-files, but it didn't worked. Should I edit something else?
  22. Hello, Tels! I am really glad to see you here! I must say a HUGE thank you for all your work - you've done so much important things for us, translators! Too bad you don't have access to the source code. Maybe you know who handles this part of TDM right now? I've figured out that I can set the value of "num_pages" as a string and change that number of pages separately for each language. ('cause in Russian we often should cut the text for it to fit. And this is not a good decision for translation, since we do not want to loose anything that author wanted to say.) This is the biggest problem right now. I wonder if it is theoretically possible to move "num_pages" to *.lang files too? Or it affects too much on other things? And again, thanks to you and chedap - we finally figured out how that script works!
  23. Hey, you're the author! I'm glad you stopped by here! That was an awesome experience! (both playing and translating).Congrats on winning the competition btw. I did the full translation and we're testing it now. You don't need to be worry - your mission is in good hands. I've send you a PM. grayman, Bikerdude Thanks a lot for the help! The whole Russian community appreciates that
