I'm no coder, but it wouldn't surprise me. TDM is MUCH more advanced than any id game in terms of gameplay mechanics. In Doom 3/Quake, when an AI enemy sees you, it always knows where you are and just comes towards and attacks. Not so in TDM. Also, enemies in Doom/Quake have basic hearing (or none at all). They don't investigate. They either sit still or attack the player.

I don't think the author is dismissing or unaware of TDM, he's only saying the engine isn't cultivating projects as much as he thought it would. I think...

That's because of perception though. Our engine is such an advancement over id4 that you could practically call it its own branch engine at this point. Lots of other projects *should* be building off of it.
